If you're building him to throw out protect tiles and make overscaled PvE nodes less threatening, I'd go 5/5/3 to minimize the odds that green will destroy your shields.

I am having fun with my 1/1/2 Thing, I think 5/3/5 is probably the best build regardless of pve or pvp. The higher levels you get him the protect tiles become stronger anyway and even with mine Thing at lvl 78 his protect is only letting through -1 damage.

heck, my 0/0/2 thing is fun to punch low level goons in the face with. Forgot about the board shake though, punched one, and the cascade killed the next guy as well.. i wanted to punch them all.

As I see it, it's less about the value of the protect tiles and more about the lowered threshold.

Meh...I am just happy I finished out t10 so I could snag his yellow. Initially I was only shooting for t20 but with normal play I was hitting top 5 after a clear so I held on to it...finished in 9th by 500+ points, extremely happy with 3 covers.

This is an important part of it but also the extra protection from the protect tiles isn't anything to sneeze at. At level 3 you get 867 in protection. At level 5 you get 1805 in protection. This isn't like Cage's protect tile where level 3 is good enough to stop match damage and level 5 is still too weak to impact ability damage. Rock Solid at level 5 will completely stop all damage from X-Force (the ability), Punisher, Psylocke, etc. Hell, it will cut the damage you take from Optic Blasts or Rage of the Panther by half. That's kind of a big deal.

Completely negates 6 enemy berserker rage tiles. Each of his tiles offsets 2 berserker tiles, you only need 3 of the 5 to survive.

Has anyone else had Things yellow trigger when he's the one in front taking the initial damage? I had that happen in the pve once today.

Update: had it happen twice again. If Thing has the lowest HP in your group when he gets hit with a power that does enough damage, his yellow triggers as well. Pretty neat.

Any whales out there or sandboxed accounts want to give their thoughts on Thing? Wondering how he compares to HB. I like the loaner in pve

I have been really busy at work lately, but I am planning on releasing my video on Friday, like I always do for new characters. I also have a couple other videos I recorded, but didn't edit and upload yet on youtube. I am also planning on doing a short video on the Vault.

And then Loki will turn around and take 1800 protect tiles and make 1800 strike tiles. Now you just need an attack tile on the board for double dipping.

If you use The Thing in a fight against Loki you deserve what you get.

If someone with Loki attacks you in PVP, well--that can't be helped. But then that person's left with Loki on defense which is a pretty bad idea for high-end play.

5/3/5. Going 5 in yellow is overkill. The threshold trigger difference is really only going to matter in crit tile situations. In terms of abilities, there's not too many that would only trigger at lvl 5 vs 3

It won't take too many matches or board destruction to get rid of those tiles. I just need to lower match damage, ability dmg is pretty much a given

If you told me I had to pick 5 yellow then I would go 5/5/3 since his green is more expensive and runs a Vance if blowing up your protect tile

Offense rules and you will end matches faster with a 5/3/5 thing thus saving more dmg than his yellow ever could

I think he's interesting but it's hard to tell with him being buffed. The way I intend to play him isn't possible due to the thresholds on yellow.

1/2/2 on my main account, yellow has helped on the essentials when he jumps out and eats a pistol.

Red and green are decent but very expensive. Gut feeling is he's better than starlord Elektra but worse than xforce 4hor.

My Thing yellow ability produced noThing as there was already someThing on all the yellow tiles (CD, Strike tile, Attack tile) while fighting against Carnage+Muscle. Was this intentional design or an oversight?

Couldn't he create those yellow protect tiles just like Scarlet Witch actually creates a Blue CD tile on the board?

its just an ability difference. If he created tiles it'd be a whole 'nother story. And an even better Hood partner.

*shrug* I actually wouldn't put him in to protect squishies. I'd put him in to make the game take too damn long for anyone to want to do it. I'm already thinking Thing/Cage/ with either CMags, XF, Blade, or Rogers.

Good Health, good dmg, annoying to fight against, Cage gets his yellow, thing can use red or green as they pop up depending on covers, and short of Blade, everyone else is pretty self-sufficient, and Blade will do the most dmg over time thanks to automatic strikes and attack tiles...and I'd have all the time in the world with Cage AND Thing...

Thing's Rock Solid ability isn't working on occasion. Had Cap hit by Torch's Fireball twice in my last PvP match for 2200 damage, which is well above the 1400 threshold for Rock Solid (at 4 yellow covers). Thing didn't jump to the front, or create any protect tiles. This bug appears to be intermittent, as the ability works fine mostly.
