4pool purple + Star lord red when we have a yellow count down looks killer move.
Then you get to match those purple count down tiles too.
Messed around with this team a bit in Shield sim and it works pretty well. If you want to get real wild, throw Cho in as your third. His blue and green rounds out the rainbow, and his green punch should clean up those Xpool countdown tiles for you nicely.0 -
I've been impressed with my champed 3/5/5 Star-Lord plus my level 390 3/4/2 Silver Surfer. Once Star-Lord's yellow is out then SS has red for 5 AP (over 1000 dmg HP per AP without any other dependencies) and blue for 7 AP (around 950 healed HP per AP), with many charged tiles as a bonus. This will only get better as I upgrade SS.
Rulk makes for a fun third (purple for 5 AP), though the trio is missing the active use of yellow AP.0 -
My star Lord is too low in covers and levels to be useful yet, but I'll say this- I've tried playing some PVP matches against Star Lord teams since his update?
I got freaking slaughtered. He is BRUTAL to play against. Instantly in the top five heroes I don't want to fight.0 -
Just double checked to see if Quicksilver's green could go below 5. Unfortunately the answer is no. This is too bad I do not think it would be too overpowered it would be crazy fast but the damage is not super high and you need a tank to protect them. Has anybody found any other powers (not passives) that do not get the benefit of his yellow power?0

I expect that any power with variable cost with a self-limiter on the minimum possible cost will not benefit. Psylocke's red and X-23's purple come to mind.0 -
Hopefully the edits i just did are good, let me know if anything is off!0

With the update to the powers fully threshed out it looks like a clear 5 3 5 unless you are specifically going to use him with a purple user who has a great power or are not going to be using his red in your match (in which case 5 5 3 makes sense). The only difference between 3 yellow and 5 is the effect on purple powers (not making them 2 cheaper) and 1 ap not gained while the damage difference for the red is 1311 + (759*# of countdown) which is if there are 3-6 tiles out there a huge difference. The purple at 5 tosses out an extra countdown tile to eliminate an enemy tile and that extra tile for an extra 2631 damage from 4 purple to 5 and an extra 5009 damage plus 1 extra tile removed from 3 purple to 5 which I think in most cases makes up for the extra penalties of not having 5 in yellow. If you are in PVE with another red user and never going to use his red and using the purple to clear countdown tiles is your goal 5 5 3 makes sense then, but pretty much only then. For most purposes 5 3 5 will be your best bet but he has some good flexibility to be used i a couple of different ways, I have been having alot of fun in Shield with him and I don't even have him fully covered.0

I'be got a spare cover expiring tomorrow, and I've been trying to decide if he's worth maxing since his buff. I asked earlier in the thread and the responses I got mostly said yes, but were pretty vague on why. I've used my 5/3/5 lvl165 version in the simulator and personally, I'm leaning no. Here's my thoughts:
His purple seems a bit expensive for the dmg. The overwrite is nice, although in the sim, I had little opportunity to use it. I can see how that would be great for pve, although I have a max jg, who has a better purple for such things.
His yellow is nice, but unreliable. Frequently the enemy fired their power before I could/wanted to use a discounted power and expired too quickly. Even when I could take advantage, a max discount of 2 isn't that great. It's sort of the opposite of Peggy's yellow at 1 cover. The random ap rarely comes in with the color I want. Also, seems like it should be a steal to hinder the enemy, but it's not.
Red is potentially powerful, but getting out 6 cd tiles can be rough. Maybe if my Kingpin wasn't so undercovered I'd be singing a different tune? In any event, without a special partner, I usually managed to wait for the enemy to make me a yellow cd and collect enough purple for 3 more. That got me ok dmg/ap, but seemed like a lot of work to get everything in place.
So that's my analysis so far. He's definitely WAY better than previously, but given limited ISO, I like to save it for the higher tier characters. It doesn't seem to me like he's climbed quite high enough. But I'd love to be convinced otherwise. Am I missing something?0 -

I am in the same boat, I have one Starlord cover that will expire soon, but I have more options than you, because I also have a WarMachine cover waiting to expire. So basically I need to decide if Starlord or WarMachine is going to be my 20th champed 4. I can even use the iso in GG, but I will probably start leveling him after champing this last 4 for now.
Your analysis sounds valid though, so I might go the WarMachine route and just use the Starlord cover to respec him to the more friendly DDQ4 build of 5/3/50 -
He really shines in pve, non-character goons cast powers so quickly you will get your 4-6 out very quickly and you can cut through them with the red attack quickly, even if goes a little slower 2 countdowns does plenty of damage for most nodes. Also don't underestimate the extra crystals when the yellow finishes its count down. I agree with you on his pink, it is weak and underpowered damage wise, but it is usefully in an emergency situation to remove a tile you cant match.
For PVP to maximize his use you need somebody who generates countdowns to make him very useful. I have a maxed Kingpin and once the other team casts a power the match is almost over 10k+ for his red attacks, 6K for kingpins pokes and the if necessary wait until his goons activate for even more damage. It works best if you have a good tank to keep them protected a 320+ OML does the trick, Chulk is solid as well and give you a use for green. This is what I have been using all season and it is working beautifully. I bet 4 Deadpool would work well in place of Kingpin but I do not have him covered well enough to try. I still say 3/5/5 is the way to go but if you want to maximize damage go with 5/3/5, I prefer the extra casting flexibility to a little extra damage that the pink offers.
So it comes down to how you play if you play a lot of PVE he is top tier now. If you do more PVP I think it is safe to say he has jumped into the top half but he definitely needs to be partnered with the right people to maximize his effectiveness. Hope this help you make up you mind.0 -
I've been using it in DDQ for great effect. The goons usually go crazy with their CD powers, so I more often than not have 2-4 yellow cds around and a stream of free AP every turn or so. I also bring IM40 (4AP Recharge? Don't mind if I do!) who adds other 3 CDs, and SL's own purple puts down even more. I've only rarely had to cast that power with less than 5 CD tiles around.0

I'm saying this right now so you heard it here first lol (maybe not):
The changes to Star-lord are much welcomed and much better but if he still versus Gamora in the 4* DDQ, he will be terrible. First, his yellow now relies on enemies using powers, and 2 out of 3 of Gamora's will not trigger SL. Her green will stun him, and her black will fill all the yellow tiles with strikes preventing SL from making his cd. In order to get use out of his yellow, you need to take a sword to the face. Second they only share 1 color.
The logical thing to do is change his opponent to Drax. They share 2 colors, get Drax to use his purple which ends the turn so no immediate damage and it triggers SL's yellow.0 -
I like new starlord and I believe that more and more players will champion him. Why????. Because the new pve system depends on grinding speed. The starlord with color boost will accelerate whole grinding speed. In the 4 blade PVE, I used iceman IM40 and starlord. The recent EOTS PVE, I used vision antman and starlord. Starlord yellow power make low ap cost character become true monster. Starlord red (6-8 ap) will do near 10 K damage with 6 countiing tile . Its really amazing.0

Great call on the Antman/Starlord pair, they work together really well! I replaced Vision with Cho to get a full rainbow of cover coverage. With 5 cheap cd tiles from antman and 1 free cd tile from cho, it's easy to get Starlord's red up to full strength. It's a nice bonus if Starlord's passive goes off, but even without it, it's still quick to pull off, so it's not a team that's limited to goon matches. And bonus that Antman is no longer the professional dust collector of my 4* roster. The only problem is Starlord is in front a lot, so he takes more dmg than I'd like.
So I did end up investing the 300k ISO in Starlord. I'm realizing that my problem with Starlord was my misunderstanding of his strength. I had thought that his yellow was his best feature and was building teams to take advantage of that. I now realize that it's actually his red that's the star of the show.0 -
I have a 4/2/0 Logan. I have two Star- Lord covers about to expire. Is it worth boosting Star-Lord over finally investing ISO into Logan? As of now, I have 12 4* maxed and championed, including all of the top ones. Just trying to figure which would make the most difference in on my roster.0
-
Logan at 345 is great, and Star-Lord is usable even at like, 140. Even so, I might champ SL just to not let the covers go to waste (he is crazy strong) and then level OML. Up to you.0

My Peter is currently 4/2/3, level 111. I've got 270K ISO burning a hole in my pocket...is it worth spending 84K of it and soft-capping him at 188 for PVE goon funtimes?0

If your going to softcap SL you will want 5 yellow. He'll still be useful, but your really only doing it for the health bump.0 -
I'd say level him. With four purple covers that's decent damage when he over writes goon count down tiles. Mine is 5/5/3 and he's third in line after cyke and red hulk. I was playing him at 100 and he was an incredible teammate for bobby against goon nodes in the strange event.0
