not to burst any bubbles but wouldn't the hunt be the worst pve to test the new 8hr refresh time cause if i remember right, the subs are overlapping over one another throughout the whole event?
Depends on how long the subs are. With 2 days subs, we could have 2 concurrent subs always, except at the start and the end, plus all the subs can start and end at the same o'clock.

i think they were 36hr subs, when the next one starting 24 hours after the one before. so there is a 12hr between subs where there is 2 overlapping time periods. and also 8hr doesn't divide well in 12 or 36 hour subs.

For this upcoming PVE it's going to take 6 clears to grind a node down to 1. it should help keep top players from all having the same score by letting them get a non-trivial amount of points towards the end of a sub.
I can't help but wonder what the intended strategy is for grinding down lv395 nodes a dozen+ times during the final grind.
To seperate the guys who can do that from the ones that can't, to create point differences to avoid tiebreakers?
Which realistically means that it'll give the win to someone who hasn't even started the 2* transition. Like in this event
  • I'm very pleased that the devs are giving this a try but am equally worried that it will cause insane bunching of scores and a real difficulty in differentiating between players UNLESS they plan to scale people's rosters out of certain nodes which will jump start complains as per simulator hard subs did.

I always thought 4h was a sweet spot for refreshes because you could hit the nodes twice to get an 8h gap BUT still had the possibility for players to out-activity (grind) other players to earn a points advantage. Hopefully, if 8h doesn't work out they will give 4h (and 6h?) a go instead of just reverting to 3h.
  • Good looking out. I'm happy about this change.

    Nope. Not dreaming.

I really, really, hope this is going to be permanent...

I'm assuming either the points is gonna be increased per node or the progression reward requirement(s) is reduced(?)

what is the point decay going to be like? how will this interact with progression rewards?

The points per mission will look the same, but will now take 8 hours to refresh fully (instead of 2.5h). We've tuned the progression rewards for this event to take this into account.

The bolded part made my heart stop, but the italicized released me from my torture.

Yes, vampires and other... beings that don't require sleep are handicapped now.

For the rest of us though, this will (hopefully) be a big quality of life improvement.
  • I'll say this again: remove essential nodes completely.

If you do, noone will care about the refresh timers and the grinding.

I am not happy with this 8 hour refresh.

I'm already unable to successfully compete in PVP as a free player, and thus it has no appeal to me, so what do I do in the game between the 8 hours? Nothing.

I play the cell phone games for recreation. To play when I'm bored. And I am particular with the games that I choose to play, so not just any game will do. I enjoyed picking up the phone every few hours and being able to play a game for 20 mins that was competitive, was able to place and progress in PVE, and then coming back to it a few hours later. I don't have the time to spend big blocks of time on my console games, so playing this game every few hours gave me my game fix without costing me anything. I play a few times before bed so my refresh lasts until morning (like a responsible person should), then I continue about my day.

Now, If I can only play for 20 minutes every 8 hours... why bother playing at all. If I remember to come back to it after the 'test event' is over, hopefully they will have changed it to something reasonable like 4 hours (which is still not all that great).

In my opinion, this is a Bad Call. Ruined a perfectly enjoyable game. Nothing left for me to enjoy in this game that I very much was enjoying until now.

Though 52% is technically the 'majority', it is only the majority for the people who are on this forum and who tend to be unable to be accountable for their own choices. Thanks guys. Because you can't self moderate, I can't play when I want to.

Note: I didn't down rate you for your opinions, please don't down rate me for mine. Last I knew this was a forum for discussion, and expressing our feelings and thoughts on the game.

Not only do I disagree, I can't even figure out why you think this.

Best change in the game since I have been playing (started in June 2014). Great, great, great idea. This makes the game much more appealing and brings back the joy and removes the grinding (regardless of last 2 hours this eliminates so much unneeded grinding).

Those of you who don't like this change....

    Less grinding means more fun!

Stop playing the game every 5 minutes and enjoy your lives.

Yeah listen to this guy, the real players that should be catered to are the ones that don't play or care much about the game.

Kind of ironic that people who need the game to tell you when not to play are telling other people not to play...

I will never understand people who say they HAVE to play every 2.5 or 3 hours because that's what the refreshes are at... these people have the problem. Yet these are the same ones that complained that it was too often, needed to be 8 hours, etc... but actually never chose to NOT play. Lets blame it on the game. Lets blame it on the inanimate object that is under our complete control. Let's blame everyone but ourselves for deciding to play the game in an unhealthy way.

Enjoying my life... that's what I was already doing... playing when I wanted to. There was no NEED. I've gone all weekend not playing because of enjoying my life. And then I play because it's part of enjoying my life. I've fixed my wife's brakes, fixed my wife's exhaust, installed flooring in my dining room, kitchen, foyer, did the trim, installed a water softener, etc, all of this after my normal 40 hour work week, and I still slept. All this while the refreshes are set at 2.5 to 3 hours... How is that possible??? Easy... you prioritize your OWN life, you don't make D3 prioritize if for you. Do I make it to top 20, nope. I usually stay within the top 50 or top 100. Set your in-game goals to match your life, not the other way around.

If you miss some refreshes, you miss some refreshes. I will enjoy my new floors a whole lot longer than that 2nd cover I missed by not hitting top 20.
I will enjoy the peace of mind knowing my wife's car is safe rather than that extra 50 HP from placing the next higher tier.

You know who I don't blame for those missing covers? D3. I blame myself for my own priorities, and I don't regret them.

But now, since other people can't think or act for themselves, or self-moderate, I can only play for 20 minutes every 8 hours, and that I have no control over except to not play.

    Word. Well said pal.
  • Yes it will be a lot easier on me.. but what about the points it will make it hard to get final reward if you don't raise the points or lower the max to make it manageable.
  • Just when I decided I'm done with PvE's cause of constant grinding !!! You got me D3 !!

I think its a good change up from the usual 3 hour refresh time
