  • There needs to be additional restrictions/handicaps on the missions at 8 hours to not end up with a bunch of virtual ties, though it's not going to be worse than what it was before even if it's 100 guys virtually tied for first because whoever wins that tie must have done it earlier/faster than anyone else and that should count for something.

In Enemy of the State/Simulator Basic you can start seeing that the time it takes you to clear a mission becomes a factor if there are enough sufficiently long missions to clear. That is, if someone needs 90 minutes to clear Simulator Basic and you only need 60 minutes, you'll see that you gain 30 minutes each refresh and that will prove to be decisive even in a virtual tie. I don't think that's the best way to settle a tie, but there are certainly much worse ways to settle a tie.
  • Another random thought: back in the day, the devs decided to try a new reward structure for Heroic Oscorp where you could earn 2 of the newly released 3* covers purely through progression awards, and the last cover through placement awards. That PvE ended up being the worst PvE ever released in the history of the game for other reasons (broken scaling, etc), but we never saw any more experiments regarding this award distribution, presumably because of how no one played the event because everything else was completely broken. So if this 8 hour thing doesn't work out, at least try out the 4 hour one before calling it quits because of metrics: you know that 2->3 hours was fine, and I'm pretty sure that 3->4 hours will be as well.

You need to put at least Gauntlet level kind of handicap for this to work out. Otherwise they'll just set the progression level like the first Heroic Oscorp, i.e. 'I heard someone actually got those progression but no one is sure' because it would be too much free covers if not. Only 1% of the population can get all 3 covers by design and I don't see this changing. Now, I think it'd be much better if you have some way to influence which 1 cover you get out of the 3 so that instead of getting say 3* red, 3* blue, 3* green on some kind of progression, you get one for placement and 2 for progression and you get to pick which ones they are, but that could be somewhat complicated. Back in Gauntlet I proposed that each of the 3 brackets should just be "3* blue" "3* green" "3* red" and then you can concentrate your efforts to the one you can get, assuming you're only able to get 1 out of the 3 and I'd like something similar to that in PvE. Obviously the top performers can still complete all 3, but the guys getting only 1 or 2 should at least have some control on what they can get.

It is wonderful to know that you are collecting data and working to tune this game for the better in the future!

    No sticky on this one?

I realize you need to collect data to see if it's a good move to change the refresh rates to 8hrs, but I'll say that the near 100% positive feedback means that that data will be redundant with respect to our applause as a community! Thank you for listening to all of us and I very much welcome this change for the better (so will my wife!)!

Awesome. I'm not even bothering with the current PvE (despite a new character) because I simply don't have the interest/motivation to be tied to my phone every couple of hours. Shall certainly play under 8 hour refreshes if only to add another approving player to the data, heh.

If it doesn't 'work out', might I suggest (as others have) that you try 4 hour refreshes, rather than going straight back to 2.5? At least there, for those who really care, they can do two full clears before sleeping and actually have enough time... to sleep.
  • Jesus, an actual change based on community feedback? What is this? Up is down, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria.

this will make all the PVE's even more competitive simply cause more people can get top scores with less effort, and i like it, it makes PVE not such a horrible grind, especially on the week long ones where you had to do 8+ clears for max points per day, and now it's only 3 clears for max points per day, and we can juggle pvp at the same time cause we can afford to wait for health packs if we blow them all in PVP.

Can somebody resurrect the threads with polls about roster slot costs, 2*-3* transition time, MMR, etc so we can vote and they can possibly work on something else that we requested? USA! USA! USA!

This change is going to make PvE far more competitive since people will actually be able to hit most/all refreshes. End of sub grinding is going to mean so much more now.

Good thing we can all pick our end times then right? Does mean they should try to fix the 12/36 hr flip flopping subs that sometimes happens. I forget if the hunt is one like that or not though.

We'll see. I'm excited they actually listened and are trying something new. I can't really complain about the current format - I've been top2 last few and top5 since pretty much I started playing, but it's way too much work for the amount of covers.

The end grind will be tough, but so what. It's tough now, if you're aiming high.

I'm thinking that 6 hours might end up being the happy place for refresh time (divides evenly into 12/24/36 hour subs). It allows for 3 clears during the day (and a 4th for those crazy enough to wake up in the middle of the night). But I'm excited to try the 8 hour and give feedback on that.
  • Hey All,

We've been experimenting recently with how long it should take for full mission node points to refresh in a PVE event. As I'm sure some of you have noticed, we've already tried a conservative change of 2.5hr -> 3hr refresh times. When we tried this change we were on the lookout for a few issues:
Players clustering at the top with the same score Creating additional grinding, especially for those players Rubber banding becoming more erratic towards the end of an event

We didn't see any of those issues and now we want to try something a little bit bigger.

So I'm here to announce that our PVE event, The Hunt is going to be running starting on Tuesday 1/20/15 with 8hr refresh times for missions.

This is a big change! But we think it will really help everyone's enjoyment of our PVE events.

Why 8hrs? Well there's a few reasons. We think 8hrs has a good natural rhythm to it, allowing for several satisfying play sessions throughout the day. On top of that, more than 50% of players voted for 8+hrs in this poll from a month ago: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20373

Also, we're worried about people feeling like they need to wake up in the middle of the night to play our game. Seriously, we're super happy that you're committed to the game, but please don't ruin your sleep schedule. Sleep is good for you.

This change is only a trial and we'll be collecting data to decide whether it should become a permanent change, as a result we've lined it up so that we're not testing this out on an event that rewards a new character. Hopefully you'll all enjoy this new PVE experience!

Let us know what you think.

wellcome this change. have a good sleep

A "little bit" bigger? I'm not going to argue preferred refresh time, but doing a test of a 3 hour refresh in which you were justifiably concerned about various potential problems, and then rolling out with an 8 hour refresh because none materialized under 3 hours, is a pretty extreme extrapolation of those test results.

I was hoping they'd reach 6hr refreshes eventually. It just fits so well regardless of sub length.
  • i don't like the sound of this at all. i like being able to play every few hours and have refreshed nodes. i can see the argument against 2.5 refresh, but i think 8 is extreme.

Let's be a little more specific here. 52% said 8+; 48% said 4 or less. Additionally, in this poll, and another one run recently, "4" was the most popular answer both times. Makes me start to wonder where the decision to go all the way to 8 is coming from, given that it's not really true at all that this is the refresh time people were clamoring for.

Well, let's just see how things turn out for the event. I think it's great they're trying. Let's give constructive feedback during the event and hope they find the sweet spot for refresh times.

I hope they're giving out Bagman as t100 prize (yes i know he's a 2* but one can hope...) icon_e_biggrin.gif failing which someone i already have maxed...
