You gonna pay for a feature that make you less willing to play the game. That's faded to fail...
Here's is what going to happen...
"While every one sleeps I'm going to grind... Once I reach high enough... 1 day shield".
Now we go on a have later players and early players
Your not the only one I almost fell out of my chair Shields for money. I already don't want to play those stupid broken 2 day events and that's how they fix it. Charge you money not to loss 200 points an hour total **** that's going to push many of their precious casual players out lol what a joke I can tell you
I WiLL NOT PAY TO PLAY A BROKEN GAME. This will not fix the points. And if you thought getting top 5 was hard before. Wait until the top 100 are shielded. Let's just use hp to buy points and not even play at all0 -
I wish there were detailed patch notes. This change could range from ok-ish addon to total **** depending on the implementation.0
-
This concludes the period in which players like myself could contend seriously in PvP events.0
-
Also think your opponent should be able to tell you are shielded.
Curious about the timing of the shield dropping if you attack. Assuming you can be attacked without point loss, Is the shield based on you being shielded when the attack began or ended?0 -

and what type of player are you0 -
Has anyone actually verified this other than the original poster? Seems like people are getting pretty worked up over something that may not be true...
Edit: Just saw the app store notice posting0 -
If you get to the 400 progression award you get 50HP which basically reads "3hr shield" for free. For everyone who is f2p that should easily be doable and then you will have to figure out the best strategy before slamming down the shield. All of this complaining about the money aspect is just worng if you think you can compete in any PvP tournament you now have a mechanism to protect your gains by playing it more. Isn't that what all the recent complaining has been about? Grind to your heart's content and then slam down your 3hr shield that you got for your 400 pt progression award.0

Might actually help to have a very high MMR, that way when you are cycling through the same 5-7 opponents, you will be able to tell (they are shielded) because their point total hasn't moved since last time you attacked.
You could just pile up half a dozen attacks on them because you know they won't likely retaliate.0 -
I just can't say enough on how bad this is If the points system is still broken and no one is worth points how are sheilds going to help you get past 600 points you still going to pull 10-14 point opp casual Players don't grind supposedly so no help for low points there. High players will just stop at 600-700 why go farther just to raise the points for the slackers when they are shielded and not worried about losing points hell there would be very little reason to play after you sheild up
No fixed points no fixed problem. Period. There's no up side to paying to play a broken game0 -

Not only that, but you can get 100 HP reward at 1000 plus you can win HP if you place in the top 10. So, you could (potentially) buy 3 or 4 3-hour shields during the course of a tourney and not lose any additional HP.
No one will like this idea, but the costs for this seem kind of low and could potentially raise.Necrofessor wrote:There's no up side to paying to play a broken game
No offense, but EVERY F2P PVP game is broken. It's the nature of the beast.0 -

Edit: And I just got 50hp from my daily reward too0 -
Just thinking aloud here ...
What if you reach the 1100 point plateau. Enter another battle with a Bagman team, then yield, and then slap on a shield? Is that the ultimate way to tank your MMR?
So, not only do you get to place high in that tourney, but you get to have a super low MMR for the next tournament. Plus, being a really nice guy in giving the community a pinata to beat upon.0 -
They didnt solved the rating problem... People says here... "Now u can reach 1400+ progression reward"... Really? how so?...Only if u keep playing 3 matchs and then shield yourself... And hoping in this time u don't get target by rating hunger players losing 40+ Points to each... Which is what actually happens.
If this is true they just created more 3 rush points... 3,8,24 hours before the end.
Thats for people who don't spend money at all... And people to spend money in a reasonable way...
For people who is willing to throw money on this game... U can imagine0 -
Another thing to consider is that this means less activity in the last few hours of an event overall. If half of the players have up a shield, it stands to reason that they won't be searching for people to attack. So even if you didn't put up a shield in the last few hours, but instead chose to try to grind the last half hour to place well, you have a better chance because there will be less people to attack you and possibly retaliate against you (again depending on if you can attack people who have shields up)0

I love it. Depends on how the shield is implemented though. Would certainly raise the average score. May or may not effect your MMR. Wouldn't work at all if the shield just prevents attacks (which I hope isn't the way it works).
Hopefully IceIX or someone else will get some patch notes up and come clarify. I'm excited though. Hopefully this will be a great change. Hopefully they will also fix the broken scoring as well.0 -
Microtom wrote:Of course shielded people won't be able to get attacked. The shield wouldn't serve any purposes otherwise.
That would break so many things. How do you deal with retaliations the shielder has generated? Now the people he/she attacked have no way to recoup the points? Do retaliations that people already have visible disappear or become 0 points? What if I attacked you before the shield went up, but finish after? Do I get the points or not? Do you lose points or not? What about generating matches? What if everyone in your MMR is shielded? Who do you get then?
So much easier in every single case to allow attacks, allow attackers to gain points, but the defender simply doesn't lose them. The attacker doesn't even need to know the defender was shielded.
Given the option between the two, I know which one I'd pick as a designer/developer.0 -
Pending the patch notes clarifying the mechanism a bit this adds another strategic level to PvP. Not only will you have to monitor your bracket but also decide what the best way to use your shield is. This could make this a lot more depending on the mechanism as I will always view the 400pt progression award as a 3hrShield to use. The question will be what is the best time to use it. I think this is a pretty good interim patch to give them some time to fix things in the scoring which we all agree is a time consuming process and if Shileds are the way to give the devs some time to fix that great.0

Maybe. And if so, then there's advantage to be had for using the shield at off-beats. Use the shield at 4 hours out, protect yourself from all the people making a push that hour to lock their shield in at 3 hours out, and then do a last push yourself in the last hour, when tons of peoplearen't p[laying because they'd lose their shield.
There is strategy to their use, and gain to be had potentially for those willing to explore their use, I think. We'll have to see how it plays out, though. There's still to much unknown about the implementation for more than speculation and somewhat blind hope or despair.0 -
My gut reaction is negative but will have to see how it works out in practice. I don't want to spend HP on shields - I tend to save it for upgrading covers with low drop rates (e.g. red rags). If I can no longer get top rewards without spending HP on shields it will be disappointing. I suppose that once you have all your covers maxed you may have nothing to do with your HP but then why do you need to win events in that situation anyway? Wonder how much usage this will get. Also agree with the posters that are concerned that this is their "fix" for the out of control point losses when attacked. To make this capability viable I am thinking that they have to raise the HP rewards such that spending HP to earn HP is a value proposition.0

Uggggggh...
It's a little early to be sure how it will shake out, but this sounds like an awful, cash-grabbing way to fix the tournament blues.
I seriously thought the OP was trolling at first.0
