This is not as good as Anniversary Tokens being in CA at 300/900 like they were supposed to be.
I think a TON more will be given out, unless there are only one or two LRs a day.
A ton more will be given out but I have my worries that it'll mostly be the rich getting richer...I can probably get top5 if I really try a few times but the average player is going to be relying a lot on getting a lucky bracket. Whereas 3 of the 4 tokens this is making up for were almost guarenteed.0 -
I have to say, this is going to be a giant bitchfest. I have been placing pretty high the last few LR days because I'm on the good side of the 3* transition where my 3*s are finally actually better than my 2*s, but back when my best pvp characters were OBW and Ares seeing this event structure would piss me off to no end. Should everyone just tank this pvp event and the next?0

Yeah, I think the total number given out may end up being higher. But this solution does favor higher end players, who are more easily able to place in the top 25%, whereas 300 in CA is achievable but almost everybody.
But I also think that the people posting here are more likely to finish top 5 than they realize. Regular LRs have, what - 10,000 people participating? How many people in these are going to fight two matches and wander off? I suspect that the typical player who starts at the absolute start, fights all the seed teams, and does nothing else, will probably finish top 5/20 in 90% of brackets.0 -

I don't remember seeing a lot of 500+ scores in LRs because you'll get smacked down to oblivion once you reach the 300-400 range. Don't tell me you have to shield hop (aka sentry bomb) your way to 500 just to get a token with a small chance for Dino.
make your voices heard people, I for one have never gotten there, and heck the cost of a SHIELD is more then the cost of the token you end up trying to earn
the pvp event pool I found myself in were comparable pts to your average pvp event overall, and the pts rewarded for a victory were also comparable, more people may be playing this is true that didnt really lead to an increase in pts rewarded or pts players finished with overall0 -
IceIX wrote:We're fully expecting that just as with these last Anniversary Events being some of our most played ever that these new LRs will be as well. As a result: More players = More points in the pool = Higher overall points.0

Is "more points in the pool" really the limiting factor on a lightning round? It's available time and frequency of incoming attacks that determine my top score, and the second is going to get way higher with more activity.0

NEVER. And I play every LR religiously (unless real life strikes).
Replace the second standard token progression reward with an anniversary token and it'll be more palatable for everyone.
(not like D3P will actually obey me ) but hope dies last, right?)0 -

Which means they're not walking away with an anniversary token. Which they would in a pve event - usually two0 -
yeah but this is far from your average lightning round so why would you compare and prepare for it like it was lol noone is gonna just play 2 matches and walk away0

*buzzer sound*
Most jump out because they're getting nowhere in lightning rounds when they're curbstomped left and right by players way out of their power league. They've learned to grab the table scraps and move on. Don't even begin talking about 'general MMR' when it's par for the course for transitioning players to be smashed to pieces against wall upon wall of maxed 166, sometimes even right out of the gate and far more severly than in normal PvP events.0 -

What is typical, out of curiosity? 5k for the low, 20k for the high?0 -
I think the problem is that most people here have been playing for ages. They don't remember what it was like to have a single lvl 94 character and be hammered over and over and over in LRs, being hit multiple times for every win you eek out. I avoided pvp for the longest time playing the game because I was convinced the game was flooded with hackers with all-maxed characters. Being placed in a bracket where you simply cannot go over 300 points without having to shield is soul crushing. I'd play a match or two to get the normal token and some iso and walk away bruised and grumbling.0

Does anyone here really believe they can hit 500 points without shield hopping in a LR? I don't even think the sandboxed players can do it.0
-
would be nice if the progression was adjusted slightly to motivate people who surely can't get top 5 to at least go for 100 or for 250 for a meaningful token.
Are there a total of 12 LRs, starting every 2 hours for 90 minutes like normal ones? Any clue as to who will be buffed? (Excuse me if I missed this skimming to this point)0 -
I think people are ~really~ underestimating the power of a 20 man bracket. Sure it is technically possible to be matched with 19 X-Men and yourself but the odds of ~every~ lightning round being a deathbracket is astronomically low. Also most people grab some iso and bail because they don't think they can win anything of value. What happens where they grab some iso and see they are 2nd in their bracket. Are they still going to sit the rest of the round out or are they going to fight to stay in the top 5?0

Almost nobody is going to hit 500.
25% of the players per round are going to get the placement prizes.
The progression prize is irrelevant.
The placement prize isn't. I don't think you guys realize how many players don't know the anniversary tokens give out Devil Dinosaur at 10%. These will probably be worse than normal LRs, but keep in mind that in normal LRs, the top 25% cutoff is between approximately 1250th-5000th place.0 -

Of course you can't. The point isn't shield hopping (which is a given...) the point is that average players are robbed out of an anniversary token and given *** all instead.0
