Not complicated. Run your score up some, put scrubs on your team (use Bag-man if you have him!), then retreat from a fight (which sets the scrubs as your defense team). The reason it is so popular to use lightning rounds for this is because they are short, so you have people competing intensely in a finite period, and can rinse and repeat multiple times if needed.

Thanks for the explanation. The way it sounded was that you could tank in the Magneto round, for instance, to better your chances at the next Rags round. That's dead wrong, right?

And sorry but the end result is to have a bunch of revenge matches with higher scores? Or what is the affect? Thanks by the way!

What happens is that you will have easier matchups after that tournament is over, so yes, you could tank in one round to get easier matches in another. How well that works beyond the initial matches is unclear. Matchmaking seems to be working a bit differently recently.

Yay I guess... I wouldn't mind seeing the strategy go away in favor of an overall better ratings system, even though I've done it a ton.

I think the thing those of us on the forums keep forgetting is that we're <1% of the game population... even if every single one of us did something then it probably wouldn't make a blip overall.

That said, given that we have a tendency to see each other in high level ranking I wonder if we don't over-represent the top end players (maybe 10%?).

I need 1 blue mag and 1 red rag. I figure to do red rag today at 10pm PST (east coast asleep) and then blue mag tomorrow at 4PM PST (west coast at work).

Wow... Well I hope you get your last red for Ragnarok then you can actually try the Storm combo. Assuming you have 5 green in Storm that is.

I do have a 5 green storm and it works with 4 red rag just as well. I do it for some PVE events but in PVP it doesn't kill fast enough. Going to build a widow after rag cuz i got her 5/3/5.

Still think Rag/Spidey/Widow or Rag/Mag/Widow are the best 3 together.

Not going to be able to go for any of them this evening... haven't figured out the schedule beyond that. If there's a Mags or Rags tomorrow evening then I'll go for it -- I technically need covers for all the villains, but those are the two I'm concentrating on right now. Need 1/1 for Rags and, well, lots for Mags (2/1/3 right now).

I am actually now starting to lean towards thinking that a raise in cost to 3ap cost may be a good change, based purely on that you feel it's slow. I never actually tried Ragnarok at that level since I got him to max red pretty quick.

Just for fun try the Storm combo and you'll quickly see what a huge difference it is. Especially in lightning rounds where I just find any game I play without Storm is slower. Fastest rounds are the Magneto and Ragnarok rounds since you don't have to bench either but even in Hood/Loki rounds, my lowly Storm is better even without the 10k+ hits that Magneto can pull off.

Also I'm disappointed to hear that people 'tanking their rating' is being encouraged. Just doesn't sit well with me especially since we usually see the same opponents over and over, new players in a low bracket might end up being defeated by the same team over and over after having fought their way up to a decent level of points with no hope of retaliating.

Sure, it's just a small percentage doing it and it's a small percentage of new players who'll stop playing because of it, but there's right and there's wrong and the fact that someone has even asked if there will penalties shows that some people feel it may be wrong. Sadly with human nature, it's all about what you can get away with.

Just my opinion, agree with me or not, you're entitled to yours.

There's more to it than that. It is a question of being competitive, especially with the rewards in question for the lightning rounds. It is very difficult to compete for the top spots when you are facing brutal competition from the first second. The game rewards winning matches quickly, not beating superior opponents. While getting hammered by someone way above your level once or twice might not be fun, neither is struggling to get to 50 points because you did well in a couple of rounds (which has happened to people). The matchmaking is a work in progress. It will get better and we will adjust. There's no malicious intent involved.
