They could let you to pound on shielded players. No loss of points for the shielded player but that would allow plenty more valid targets. It's no different than beating retal nodes or queuing players who then shield (cup caking) to avoid point loss.

Anyway, I'm anxiously awaiting to see what they do with PvP/MMR.

    KGB

    No.
    Just no.
Nobody could ever unshield, and points would go to 10k.
We've had a PVP like that once in the Stone Age.

All these ideas are just "make PvP into PvE." Is that really what everyone wants? I want a mode where I fight YOU. I want to take your points away and demoralize you and make you feel bad and stop you from getting rewards.

I don't need an extra PvE mode where we mindlessly fight trivial enemies and get handed rewards for it.

If you don't enjoy fighting other players, just stick to PvE, and stop trying to take PvP away from those of us who actually like player vs player.

Apart from some players' opinion, pvp is there in order to be pvp. It gives the revenue expected to get.
And no, it's not gonna change after 10 years.
If they charge MMR for better, great for them, they are improving the game at high pace and unexpectedly.
But pvp will be the same, any change would be exploited by players.

Do you? I mean do you actually know who you are fighting? And care?

It has genuinely never occurred to me.

I'm with you on what sort of battles PvP should be, I'd just never considered that there was that sort of fun to be had from it.

Are there players you'd seek out to fight even if it was likely to be dull or difficult?

    Heh. Well.

I wonder if I'd find that fun. I'm terrible at remembering names but I could write some down, I guess.

I also now wonder if I've ever fought players in my alliance, and if they noticed.

I cannot say this strongly enough -- ABSOLUTELY YES, to all three of your questions.

I absolutely know who I'm fighting and I absolutely care. I target players I don't like, and I'm positive they don't like me either. I've had multi-year wars with many, many players. I enjoy those battles whether I win or lose, because competition is fun. I'm going to keep coming for them forever. I never forget names.

Their defensive team or point level has no impact on this. If I need to dump 500 of my own points to make an attack hurt them more, I'll do that in a second.

Some events start off boring because I can't find someone I don't like. In that case I'll do my absolute best to pick a fight with someone random and make a new enemy.

I'm really not particularly scary anymore, compared to the old days, and at my absolute peak I was maybe the 18th scariest player in my alliance.

Everyone used to play this way though. Huge alliance wars were relatively common. People fought over ownership of each slice. We've lost all the competition and hatred and spite and it's really sad.

I wish PvP was like the original Puzzle Quest. Actual head-2-head battles against human opponents with limited time for moves (to prevent someone from not moving).

Whenever I read EB's descriptions of how things worked long ago I feel like I'm playing a different game entirely. I also never take names and have no idea who I am attacking or who attacked me. PvP just feels like those PvE nodes where there are 3 tile movers. Except unlike CL10, they don't get to be up to 200 levels above me.

I play only to farm the rewards up to 1000 points (25 wins) whatever happens first.

Yeah...the loss of hatred and spite is sorely missing.
Anyone else think it won't be long before eb is on the news "he has killed and sadly will kill again"

    While we're talking about PVP...

I do keep track certain players because I see them often and it's nice to track their teams and learn.

I'd love to see a PVP training node where I could play against members of my alliance to show them things instead of messaging... Obviously couldn't be for points because it would get abused, but newer players could benefit from this.

And itt would provide a way to test new/rebalanced characters.

The thing is, there's just not that many players at the top of the metagame at any given time. In the early days there were a limited number of players with max 3*, for example. We see each other over and over again, so it can be tough NOT to remember names.

And for the most part, people with the best rosters aren't getting attacked accidentally. When someone chooses to hit my dual 672s repeatedly, they're doing it for a reason. If, for whatever reason they're not, I'm still going to assume that they are, and act accordingly.

Also, everyone basically plays the same end time every event. Wars often got started over someone "invading" another slice to cause trouble -- a few determined, skilled snipers can disrupt an entire slice.

Also, don't worry - if you have no idea what bucket just wrote, you don't have to worry about it, ever.
At best you're a "random" and will not be targeted.

Sometimes a "random" will sufficiently annoy me that I decide to do something about it, but the problem there is that they're unlikely to decipher the message I'm trying to send them, or even be aware that I'm sending a message.

This is all in-game behavior, btw -- communication is handled through patterns of attacks. Players who send threats and other nonsense through Line or any other method are unhinged weirdos.

Honestly... I'd love to be someone's MPQ nemesis.

It would add another layer to playing PVP.

Actually... Being able to agree to be mutual rivals... Some sort of label beyond names identifying someone as a member of your personal MPQ PVP Rogues Gallery... Would be fun. Hunting them while they're hunting you. Respectfully of course.

Threats or other nonsense online have no place in civilized competition.

In 9 years of playing I've only had someone contact me about pvp outside of the game once. Dude replied to one of my comments on the forum accusing me of "sniping" him because I happened to hit him while he was shield hopping.

I was like lol dude, I couldn't even see if you were shielded or not, I just hit anyone worth good points that isn't an alliance mate.
