Sorry, but I never thought that I was gonna see the D&D clerig in MPQ.0 -

Whoever in your roster is closest to a one-man team.

As others have noted, the weird thing is that it seems his synergy with Heimdall is wanting. With only one offensive ability between them shared on the same color, Odin's strongest AP color being yellow making it tactically unsound to use Heimdall's yellow and Odin needing to take damage to get tile fortification engine going, running them together will be very messy.
In terms of character flavor and comic-lore, they missed the mark pretty badly here. He has very little synergy with his fellow Asgardians and no real synergy with himself. As @Bad has pointed out, it seems they tried to shoehorn him into a Healing Cleric type character which I don't deny he is capable of but that is only a fraction of his power. There aren't many who can claim to have head-butted Galactus. This is a being whose battles have caused the cosmos to shake, planets to crumble and galaxies to fall; the fact that his only attack ability is low damage is simply baffling.
With Beta Ray Bill, Heimdall, Hela, Loki, Thor, and Valkyrie already in game, it would have been nice for the Dev Team to create an Asgard affiliation that Odin's powers could complement. Perhaps a reverse version of Xavier Protocols that grants other Asgard characters 30% less damage for each active Asgard character on the team. I also would have liked to have seen the Odinsleep worked into his character design.
As a comic fan, it feels as though his power set were just thrown together last minute to fulfill a particular archetype with little consideration given to his established powers and abilities nor toward making him play well with other Asgardians.
With that said, I hate to be all doom and gloom so I will say that I do like his AP tile art.8 -

That would have been a smart thing for them to do. Perhaps they could have given him a power that ignores all damage reducing abilities (so would ignore passives, protects and immunities and invis). Maybe for fellow Asgardians.
Or maybe D3 are trying to say wisdom is healing and protecting allies, instead of killing ones enemies.0 -
This is sadly another big dissapointment like AoA Mags or Pyclops, really great characters in the comics, super powerful that get a pretty lame game adaptation.
This year has been VERY hit and miss, and mostly miss sadly. Wanda is great, Colossus is good, YJ, Ghostpool and Electro are decent but I barely use them at all, and then Ronan, Knull, Psyclops, Mags and now Odin are pretty meh/bad If you think about it, just Wanda and Colossus are usable really.
PS: I dont know where to put Adam, probably in the meh/bad category now that Wanda and Electro negate his black completely (as a match damage char, Colossus is much much better).0 -
His blue (Odin Blessing) might be his best power. The board really fills up with those CDs once the parameters are met. And those strikes are big.Knull
4* CM 5/5/3

Heimdall

Magik
just a couple that intrigue me.0 -
After spending 10 minutes on his second node today, I found out:
1) AoE will not trigger his yellow passive power, regardless of whether he's in front or at the back. I wonder if Skuttlebutt or Survial of the Fittest will trigger him to jump in front or do multiple fortification. It's likely a no for Skuttlebutt, but I'm not sure about SotF.
2) Cascades will trigger him to fortify tiles multiple time, if it meets the minimum damage requirement and when he's already in front.
Maybe they can release Lady Sif as the next 5* to help this old man out.

On day 2 today, odin needed almost 3000 damage to start his engine and the only way to achieve that is eating the AoE of the mindless. So another great node for to not see all his potential(about the divine champions, I didn't know ghostpool was one of them, possibly him neither).
I'm not sure if it would be the fastest team, but odin could have sinergy with HE and carol4*, as bodyguard odin could in theory give some protection to dangerous 4* such as her, polaris, karnak, medusa, riri, and sinergy with misty knight.
All that would be for to having fun and experimenting a bit, as his final use in pvp should be, like we are all thinking, for to increase the annoyance of the Wancol team.
So I think, despite all, this is a character to not skip in the case the future could prove the opposite.0 -
I think the +100 level boost changes the calculus on skipping a 5* quite a bit. If somebody skipped Killmonger or Archangel it'd be hard to compete in those weeks, and now we don't even know who'll be boosted together.
That said, I'm not sure a +100 level boost even helps Odin very much. Does his threshold scale with levels? Normally the jump-in-front powers get less useful as the guy levels up, so he might be an exception to "boosted 5* make mediocre 5* great" rule.0 -
I will add: I'm very happy that Odin is bad. Since Scarlet Witch and Colossus appeared, the game is unbearably slow without boosted 5* to counter them. If Odin was good it'd have gotten even worse.
Please stop making defensive characters and start making characters that ignore defensive passives, or 5* stuns, or something to speed these fights up.2 -
They need to fire some of these designers. There's been way too many trash 5s for the same people to have their hands in the character creation process going forward. Only so many 5s released yearly, while each new one doesn't have to be Apoc or Okoye, or BRB caliber, they shouldn't be instant garbage and dead on arrival. Especially with the lame LL store continuously tied up with multiple 5s of varying degrees of sucktitude.
Maybe their thought is who cares of the character is terrible, they'll be good when their boost comes around. It wouldn't be so bad if they ever revisited characters more off for fine tuning when they've missed the mark completely. How many awesome characters do they have to butcher, very depressing most of these new 5s are so bad. Especially when it's a new character that hasn't appeared before in any tier like Odin, or Magnetos 5* entry that was super disappointing. There's hardly any interest in so many of them before they've even hit LLs.5 -

Regardless of how bad he seems as a character, whoever thought that the blinding white light triggering every few rounds was a good idea after the issues surrounding the screen dim just needs to be fired.0

As someone who has wanted Odin for a long time I am also disappointed with how he turned out. You have let the All Father down Devs shame on you.

On krakadoom pvp it's crazy the cut to t20 in my bracket: 1800 points. So there are players highly interested on him. And I am in one of the latest brackets of the first slice.
T5: 3500 points.
Time will tell, as always.0 -
Those points are pretty standard in slice 1 actually. Try playing in slice 2 or 5 and I doubt you can find anyone scoring 1800. At most it's 13XX to 14XX.
The glimmer of hope left for Odin is that MPQ is a game of synergy. Some characters are late bloomers, like 5* Captain Marvel. I believe when the developer decided to shift their focus to fortification strategy, that would be the time Odin shines. Currently, we are on a roll of defensive meta + cd meta.0 -
I like him. I put him in solid Magneto or Cyclops territory.
like maybe not entirely game changing, but some fun mechanics going on.
in general recently, I’ve found some value in every 5*. Ronan maybe the one exception but I haven’t messed around with him enough,
For me going back, the one recent 5* that disappointed was Warlock. I just hate fiddling around with all his stuff. It’s annoying and I already dislike self damaging characters in the first place,
but even with him, I have never regretted champing him.2 -
The Introducing and Event are just not gonna show Odin off well. He’s seems to be a VERY specific character for a VERY specific that isn’t gonna show much of anything at 1/1/1 or without any partners.I actually died vs Galactus. You know hard it is to die vs Galactus?0
-
I’m trying to champ everyone too, so I’m here for it, but at 1/1/1 it doesn’t seem worth playing him with a fortification strategy. Heimdall/Magik worked better than Heimdall/Shuri. I haven’t tried running any of the other 5* fortifiers yet; goblin, Hawkeye, Cable; unboosted in pick 2 I don’t think it’ll work. I may try Monica Rambeau since she is the only character I can think of who creates a fortified anything at turn start. Also Lizard may be interesting, but probably not in an event with boosted 5s in it. Boosted Misty actually works pretty well with him and Heimdall, I always forget that her deal is fortifying stuff too. I still think Boosted Goblin will be his best bro.0
