    Fury's top 100 and most of the crazy scoring was trying to get top ten. Since beyond top 100 the only rewards are bragging rights and burnout, we probably won't see things too crazy this time

    I was more thinking about when / if Fury is a 1300 pt or 1st place reward like IW and X-Force in future.....

    Ah, gotcha. I suppose that is possible.

    Yes, but it would be a weak correlation at best.

    In other words, you are looking at a symptom and not the cause of the issue.

    In my opinion, the cause of the death brackets is players' scoring on Versus events (higher scoring causes higher placement, which results in higher Season standings). As noted back when the last MMR changes were presented, MMR buckets were created that could be observed if a person's MMR was tanked down to minimal levels. Certain point thresholds in Versus events will trigger transitioning to a higher-tier bucket, which causes sudden drastic increases in the levels of opponents (especially out of the 1* bucket --> 2** bucket).

    At the moment the buckets are:

    1* 0 - 499 points. <-- Used to be 399, was raised about 2-3 events ago.
    2** 500 - 899 points. <-- Finally verified the upper bound last night on Fresh Cut.
    3*** transition 901 - ??? ( Suspicious about 1099; tier breaks have history of being on major prizes, as such the 1100 cover)
    3*** full 141s only 1100??? and up

    What I believe is happening is that brackets are being held open for all four buckets simultaneously as a result of the sharding system. When entering a bracket, the system looks at past versus scores and what bucket a player ended up in previously. The system will add the player to a bracket composed of players with similar bucket placements. MMR may play a bit of a role as well, but because that can still be gamed (albeit with difficulty nowadays), the "days played" check acts as a bit of a counterbalance to ensure that veteran players do not end up in a bracket that is trivial for them to win. That said, I believe the buckets are a one-way street. Once a player is moved to a higher-tier bucket by the system, there is no returning back to a lower-tier bucket ever. Scoring well on events inevitably means being moved up to the next bucket of difficulty. Everyone will eventually be sheparded into more and more difficult brackets until every bracket is eventually a "death bracket". There are already considerable examples out there of discrepancies between players and scores needed to place well/win brackets. Ultimately, it is a system, like PvE scaling, that is designed to ensure that eventually everyone begins at some point to fail to consistently win/place well on brackets.

    I am surely not 100% correct on this, but I think I'm pretty darn close to what is actually going on.

    I had internet issues right at the end of the tourney and finished my second boosted match 40 seconds too late for top 10 - but meh, until they nerf Magneto, I am not going to run Clawkid ever. I am gonna revel in the beauty that is Magneto for as long as I can even if he sucks at defense icon_e_biggrin.gif Going to watch X-Men: DOFP tomorrow wheee!
    Edit: glad you held on to top 10, so my original plan of letting others fight for purple Daken was kinda fulfilled anyway.

    I even gave Jonny my spot in Venoms!
