Ironically, this is far better a system for many that are against it, and will be far worse for those that were, and are still, advocating for it.
A fully developed 4 star roster just went from being able to earn a minimum of 75 CP a week in PVP to 30. Meanwhile, the Haves continue to get everything they were previously getting, albeit in a different manner. The Haves that previously transitioned into 5-star land will continue to pull away from the HaveNots that are stuck in 4-star land or below.
As to Pheregas' original comment, I had an alliance mate hit 400 wins in the first event of this mini-season. Many transitioned players had all their season rewards with 12+hrs left on the first event. 40 wins is easy for the people that were already top scorers. And is hard for the smaller rosters, but it should be hard as you're getting a cover that was more difficult to achieve (based on the complaints here) under the prior meta. And that's why D3 didn't tweak that number at all from the first to second test.
In short, a perfect example of be careful what you wish for.
I don't coordinate hops, like the vast, vast majority of people that play the game, and also like most people, because I'm not coordinating every match, I can't queue up nothing but 60+ point matches every single time. I understand that those who currently can run past 900 in less than 20 matches would be annoyed by this change, but that isn't a typical example of a normal playstyle. Moving the CP from 1200 to placement only affects those who are coasting to that easy 1200 in the first place.
When arguments like "why are people complaining about scoring points? I got to 1500 points and barely made top 50 in my PVP bracket" gets used as a justification for why the system is fine, it shows exactly how much the system was being manipulated by the group that wanted to do so. Now, the group that drove scores up and up together can continue to do so, or split up the band and go out into the big scary solo wilderness and try and grab the placement CP. Or they can continue to shoot for big PVP scores together, and go cutthroat among themselves for the top 10.
I know it seems as simple to those who know the system as "just get Line, join the busiest slices, and work with everyone else to coast past 1000 points easy". Not everyone can do that, but most people, if they really feel like it, can knock out 40 PVP matches in two and a half days. As someone with a roster that can cruise to top 10 in PVE in most events, yet has never gotten to 1200 in a single PVP event, I can speak for some, and say, no, the PVP system wasn't perfect for everyone just because their roster may be strong.6 -
I wanted to see how most of the season landed for me before commenting.
First, I agree with the people that seems pretty clear they intend to shift to this system as this is the second test with the only change being adding it in a mini-season. I also agree with everyone else that 40 wins is a little too high compared to the old system... but not all matches are created equal. For Nefarious Foes, I started right at the beginning of the 4th timeslot (midnight for me) and started with 10 fights against seed teams (the Lightning Round play-style). All in all, I played about the normal amount of fights against actual player accounts that I normally do, maybe a couple more? And I only used one shield at around 4 hours left and with over 1000 points, when I normally use one or maybe two trying to get to the **** cover and stop there, but I don't always hit that mark. I started BFF on my normal timeslice (the last one) but forgot to start it early. Still had 3 seed teams at least. This one had a slow start for me as my play availability in the middle of the week was limited and I focused on Lightning Rounds over this event. BFF is normally less fun, but this system does have the advantage that you can juggle teams and not worry as much about defense as under the old system. Currently at 36 wins and will finish a few more and shield during lunch.
So for me, it can be anywhere from slightly more work to a lot more work for similar/better prizes. But I definitely feel for the players who are missing out on the 1200 progression since they moved those into the placement rewards, and for people who are only matched against rather tough fights (and the 5* rosters going through health packs fast) and have a larger number of matches to play for the same rewards.

Kahmon said:I thought they were lowering the wins needed to 32 or so, but I guess the only change will be the addition of the mini-season rewards which aren't up yet. They will probably show at 8am EST when the first Nefarious foes starts.
The lack of change is a little disapointing, but still greatly preferred to the current system.
I figure hit the 10 seeds right away then 10 fights a day whenever it's convenient. Easy peasy and no stress of giving a tinykitty if I get attacked.
Dead easy head start on the 40 wins, made the 10cp in no time.0
