So there's the dilemma we face with every change.

New 5* added to the pool on "X" date... do we pull tokens before they adjust the rate, or after? Will they adjust the rate? We see that every time a 5* is added.

We have the same questions here... where does my roster rank right now? Will it rank 65 as it stands NOW? If YES, than saving all roster growth until after Monday makes sense so you can go above rank 65 immediately after getting ranked to 65. If your roster ranks 65 NOW as it stands and you grow your roster BEFORE the patch, then you will still only be placed in rank 65.

Retroactive behavior only impacts your placement up to rank level 65.

If you are confident you will rank less than 65 when this is implemented, feel free to continue to grow your roster as you will be retroactively credited for it up to level 65... wherever that falls on the undetermined scale.

Is the scale to 100? 150? Knowing the current level cap would at least give us an indicator of where we MAY rank based on our rosters.

This first version will give players Iso-8 rewards and access to different features. Players will gain XP from everyday actions like buying packs, and improving their roster by recruiting, leveling and championing characters.

Something very important is missing here.

    How about playing the game?
    Clearing nodes?
Participating in PVP and PVE events with different exp values rewarded for placements?

Okay, see, I noticed that too but I think it's a good thing -- if, as they've said, SHIELD rankings are about finally sectioning off the different tiers of play for purposes of rewards etc. Because as some people are painfully aware, winning fights, clearing events, etc., is no guarantee of actually improving your roster and moving up from 2* to 3* to 4* to 5*.

    2) I like the concept behind the SHIELD rank, but I do wish it would go one further and have rewards for roster usage. Make it beneficial for the player to roster a bunch of characters and actually use them. I can think of several ways to do this, all of which have pluses and minuses.
I was thinking something similar to this. Achievements! Why don't we have them?

    Two mild thoughts....

    1) Regarding a system that's "stacked towards whales": real-life casinos are heavily stacked towards whales -- that's where the term "whale" comes from, after all.
Not a fan of this analogy... it's not as if casinos offer whales 2/1 on a blackjack instead of 3/2. It's not as if they let whales at the poker table call with a 50% discount. Everyone at a casino is playing the same game. The free stuff whales get are separate from the actual gameplay mechanics.
Any spending player has a real advantage over non spending players. The game mechanics are the same but the game mechanics were built to encourage spending. Buying hero points early on should get you a better roster, because you wouldn't have to sell so many covers because you don't have the roster slots. I read so many posts were people have to decide which character to keep. Don't forget shields for pvp require hero points. Yes I know you can get enough per pvp. But competitively, you have more chances if you can use more than the minimum amount of shields required.

Some characters are just very good and the game is very unbalanced that way. A whale could brute force it (yes not everyone will get the oml cover, but most will if you spend enough) and get the character that is over powered to gain an advantage.

For instance in your analogy. The black jack game is the same for everyone. But if you sit at the end, you have more influence in the game because you see more of the cards so you can get a better prediction of what the dealer will get. Not only do you see more cards (to determine whether you will hit a 10) that come out, but the last player's actions may determine the outcome of everyone else on the table because his/her turn directly affects the dealer's hand. So I would say there is a slight advantage for the last player at the table.

I'm interested to know if ISO is the only reward or if there are other rewards in there.

Also the 30,000, is that just the level 65 reward or is that the total grandfathered rewards for all 65 levels? If it's the later that seems kinda weak. That averages to 461.5 per level which isn't much.

It would be nice to see them show us a list of what the rewards are at each level rather than leaving our imaginations to run wild all weekend... I have enough trouble sleeping already icon_e_confused.gif

This is what I've been wondering also. Should I level up more 2*'s to try for the XP early? Would it matter? What about applying champ levels versus keeping them?

Without the info of how the XP is applied and works, it's impossible to tell. And we pretty much never have info of how something will work before the update comes and it's already applied....

This sounds great and all, but am I right in thinking this won't actually address the issue of people at very different ranks being thrown together in Story and Versus? As in, this will just reward those capable of getting bigger payouts, but we'll still be facing each other in the same bracket?

I assume that's the clearance part that isn't being released Monday. I'm guessing this will be coming in the next few months.

Not months. The article says in R109, so 2 weeks later.

Interesting, the teaser announcement said late fall for the system to be fully rolled out. Does that mean the Clearance is only another part of this system or was their teaser date just wildly inaccurate?

That would be great if so. It's not really realistic for me to even try for top 10 right now when I'm a featherweight in the heavyweight division, and facing goons even with more health and hitting harder than any of my guys. I'm just a little nervous about this ranking/clearance being applied as it seems to be calculated right now.

If I'm one of the people lucky enough to jump to Rank 65, and I champ something over the weekend or do some other XP-gaining activity that ends up being "wasted," I take consolation in the fact that I'll be able to cry myself to sleep on 65 ranks worth of XP rewards.

The weekends' worth of XP, even if it ends up being a presumably big-ticket XP event like champing a 4*, is likely trivial compared to the years worth of activity that's getting grandfathered in. I'd much rather have this tuned to have more people jump to Rank 65, even if some activity over the next few days doesn't pay off as much.

    Hi,

A quick note on some of the thinking behind S.H.I.E.L.D. Ranks and S.H.I.E.L.D. Clearance Levels.

These systems have been worked on behind-the-scenes for some time now and the teams at Demiurge and D3 Go! are pretty excited to finally be bringing them to you very soon. The hope here - and the reason these new features are coming in - is to give players what they have been asking for; improved rewards, improved matchmaking, more choice, recognition of veteran status, and more ways to reward everyone for simply playing the game. These are lofty goals, but hopefully we can hit all or most of them.

I know some of the more cynical folks out there will not want to believe this, but the new S.H.I.E.L.D. Ranks & Clearance Levels were not created to gouge players for cash. We consider them quality-of-life changes and improvements to the game. Hopefully, once parts 1 & 2 arrive on Monday and part 3 arrives with R109 in a few weeks, players will consider the updates to be awesome additions. Please play with the new features for a bit once they are in place and let us know what you feel is, and isn't, working for you.

    Thanks for reading.

Can you answer if part 3 is the final part and if not how many parts until everything is released?

This is nice reiteration, thanks David. Sometimes many (I'm often one!) are very skeptical about what is coming, it certainly is good to not only see the full update roll-outs but also get a bit of play/experience with it before we condemn the changes (or praise the changes), and it's good to remember this when big [exciting] changes are near!

Matter of opinion there. For example in BTTF and Star Wars part 3 are my favorite...

Well, not always... Toy Story 3, Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War, The Dark Knight Rises.

Here's hoping SHIELD Rank & Clearance Levels Parts 1 & 2 are equal in quality to Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: Winter Soldier, with Part 3 giving us Captain America: Civil War quality. But honestly I'd be fine with A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back followed by Return of the Jedi -- not as great as the previous two, but, eh, I can live with it.
