  • Guys,

How are you playing the Human torch event? I'm a bit lost... I'm using my usual approach of laying off the nodes for 12 hours, but these nodes disappear. The rubberbanding is in play, I've seen the points, etc... but with disappearing nodes, should we be playing this like the simulator or have a different approach? I had that event down (not that I enjoy the mechanics, but I understood them), but I'm not sure about this.

Forgive my outcry, but WHY WONT DEVS JUST TELL US HOW THE EVENT WORKS?! Any player can choose to play however they like it, but explaining the system goes a long way. I feel like we have to guess and they come up with these wierd systems, such as the 12 hour node clock with rubberband action. So freaking weird, you can't get ahead of anyone if you want to win, you must play during the last 2 hours of the event to place well or win. Compare that to a regular PVP tournament, you can play for 6 hours straight on day 1, grind people for 10 points per victory, get to 900 points, shield for 1 day, then shield for another day and win your bracket. Therefore, you can play more or better (or both) and win. For these PVE events (and I love PVE, I really like the dynamic better that PVP), just play the clock and remember to do you last round 2 hours before the end of the event.

I don't get why the Devs would choose this....

    Again, sorry for the rant.

    Cheers,
    NazgulPrime
  • Play the same as the Simulator. The nodes disappear every 24 hours at noon EST, and refresh every 12 hours (same refresh as Sim) so grind them down as close to that time as possible to maximize rubberbanding, and then do them at least 12 hours before that too.

Hopefully they don't throw a curve ball and change the nodes to disappear every 36 or 48 hours icon_evil.gif

i agree with this, if they explain the rules of the game to us it would be alot more fun.

also i don't like that whoever can play the last hour before a pve event ends wins it.
they should really change that system!

    Pve: 17500 and 1st
    PvP: 400 and 8th

I also agree about how odd this rubberbanding has made it.

You may be joining too early. I usually come in 24-36 hours before the PvP's end, make one push to 300-400pts, and then a second at either the 9.5hr or 6.5hr mark before end, and then a final at about the 2hr mark. Shielding after the 9.5/6.5 hr run depends on if I think I can win/place.

    RATIONALES:

    1. The people who are going to blow HP go in early, and the veteran players go in late, so I split the difference.

    2. NEVER play around the 8 hour mark if you can avoid it. Everyone and their dog serious about that PvP tourney is going to be going for the 8 hour shield to maximize HP efficiency. Play either an hour-and-a-half early (if you need to make up more points) or an hour-and-a-half late. May need to adjust based on sleep times.

    3. Same as above--avoid the 3 hr mark--this is the fiercest competition, with the possible exception of the last 15 minutes. Come in late so you're not facing insta-retaliation, but not so late that you catch the last-minute rushers in the final hour.

personal note: 81 covers needed to complete a fully powered roster of chars.
  • BWAHAHAHAHA!

Yes, please, EVERYBODY. KEEP bringing your fishnetty widows to a clawfight. Fishnets are obviously the best defense against an enraged Wolverine.

    I love you, MPQ PvPers.

  • And lo, your founder was faithful to Patch; and lo Patch didst reward him, at the 300th point annunciation, with another Green X-Force icon.

774 and holding. This has been loads of fun!

My Patch's bloodlust may never be quenched but tonight it was pleased.

Just shielded at 801 because I couldn't get a decent match ... well except for this TheHueyFreeman guy!

Did my alliance duty and skipped!

Would be nice to know in advance when exactly the crazies enter an event. icon_lol.gif

Alliances have ruined that too. Every possible entry time will have someone because alliances try and coordinate not to step on each other's toes.
    They do!?

Note to self: suggest that in the next Alliance meeting.... icon_lol.gif

    Same. I saw you too.
  • I'm stopping at 620 for tonight.

I haven't had a single person challenge or retaliate on my entire run. Never had that happen before.

You're at 550 now so it seems someone found you
  • Hey Guys,

This report is from a couple of hours ago, but I forgot to post before running out to dinner. I was sitting at #1 with 21,446 points in the Human Torch event and at #1 in my bracket with 650 points for our Savior's event. I've decided to shield for 24 hours and quit playing this event though. I've been stuck at 600 for 2 hours, so I've given up on climbing further than 650 as every time I got to 680 ou 690, 3 people would hit me before I crossed into 700 icon_e_sad.gif A bunch of people using our Savior at level 281 to beat my **** raw was a bit much for me.

Also, on the great news department, I got extremely very lucky and got 2 patch covers I needed on x2 two star tokens icon_e_smile.gif Our savior watches over me! Hallelujah!!!

    Cheers,
    NazgulPrime

P.S. - Thanks Arogntbastrd for confirming I was playing the Human Torch event correctly! Your message was very useful in combating my doubts about my approach to the event. If anyone has any doubts, please follow his lead.

    That's probably true...problem is: I have absolutely no self-restraint...."oh a new tournament...MUST SLAY ENEMIES NOW!!!" icon_e_wink.gif

Just made myself a Roster-Spreadsheed icon_e_smile.gif Turns out, I'm currently missing 80 covers :p (though that'll be 92 once the current event ends icon_e_sad.gif )

    My Roster

Also, I've got 2073 Levels left to upgrade until I have a fully maxed Roster icon_lol.gif
