F2P Veterans Alliance

I have a lvl85 Ares and he's a critical member of my 'main' team (Ares, GSBW and Daken) so I'm very much enjoying the buff! I managed to shield the no holds barred event and came out 1st, but then sleep consumed me and I missed the last run on the simulator, dropping me from 1st to top 50 and coming out with only 48k (very frustrating because when I fell asleep some nodes were worth well over 2000 each). That's the only problem with this game, stupid reality keeps getting in the way!
lazer you raise a good point about a 'mean' supreme commander, it's not a perfect system but still I think the lesser of two evils. Also in the scenario you describe D3 would be able to track that kind of behaviour, and then reimburse the victim while punishing the player responsible, so in that sense at least it's a much better system, and in my experience similar to how other games tackle the same problems.
As for the alliance sig, I like the idea of a kind of mantra, but it could use a little work. Does anyone here have experience with graphic design? Besides that we should open a debate among members on quadiaks sig, what to do with it etc. Personally I think it is good, but would rather it was great. I'm also open to having a mantra or a kickass graphic, but theming the graphic will be hard for F2P Veterans...0 -
As a follow-up thought, it might be worth trying to think of a Marvel character who embodies the principles of the alliance, so that character could potentially be used in a graphic. My Marvel knowledge isn't particularly exhaustive, my first thought was the Morlocks (they're the underdogs and poor!) but maybe not the best analogy. Any thoughts?
Also, I think we need better rep as an alliance, so I'm going to thumbs up every post in this thread made by an alliance member. If we all do the same it should help us out a bit, but keep it to just this thread otherwise it starts to look a bit obvious!0 -
Signature test. let me know what you guys think0

Nice job Quadiak.
Wolverine is one of my faves - I don't know if there is a connection to F2P, but it works for me.
My one suggestion would be to make the image smaller, so it's not dominating the posts. (Jozier's and Phantron's signatures for their alliances are about right in my opinion).
I did like your "here to stay" line in your original signature. Anyone else still want to incorporate that?0 -

Awesome awesome awesome!! Wolverine doesn't match so much with the F2P side (but that would be HARD) but he's pretty much the definition of Veteran. Far more than that though I'm loving the "bigger they are harder they fall" motif, it's perfect! Being F2P we are the underdogs, taking down 'bigger' alliances, mirrored in the pic... honestly I'm so stoked about this sig! I think wil might be right about making it just a little bit smaller... but only a little bit I think.
Personally other than the size I don't think anything needs changing, but I'm a critic by nature so there's a couple of suggestions I could open up to the group. First would be including member names in the sig, but I don't think that's necessary and would become awkward as we expanded. Secondly we could add a second line referencing the F2P nature of the alliance and incorporating the "here to stay" line that wil likes... perhaps simply "Free to play and here to stay" or maybe "not gonna pay and here to stay". Again I'm not sure it's necessary and may make the sig too cluttered, but I'll open it up to the rest of you.0 -
Thanks for the input on the sig. Keep it coming, I will adjust the size and edit some more, all ideas are welcome.
I just realized the lone star skirmish event is an alliance event. With the hood for prizes. Do we want to have some focus on it?0 -

I just came here to post the same thing. They kept it kinda quiet huh?? It's an awkward event because there's no real reason for anyone to do badly, so competition is really fierce. I would love to get hold of yellow hood as it would be my 5th (making it usable) and I think if we all focused on the event we could do it. Remember as well there's a chance other alliances may not have realised it's an alliance event and may ignore it in favour of the simulator. As the simulator is looking like we're fairly safe in the top 250 but top 100 looks impossible, I would propose we all push for a yellow hood as I don't think it'll affect our chances in the simulator all that much.
Plus, being F2P players this should kinda be our event, no?0 -
Seriously? I've totally ignored lone star except for the seed teams.
I'll try to do a bit of a push tonight.
(of course my Hood already has 5 yellow but only 1 black no blue - so still pretty much unusable).
I swear I have the worst luck when it comes to covers.0 -
The bad news is the stupid game crashed my phone once again at the beginning of a battle
The goods news is, I am going to spend my time working further on the sig while I wait for my guys to heal up. I know I could go use my OBW to bring them up but I get so frustrated when it crashes that sometimes I want to throw it. I almost swear the developers build random crashing into the software just so we use more health packsFluffyudders wrote:It's an awkward event because there's no real reason for anyone to do badly,
Well......
My previous strategy had me ditching all the covers I no longer used, partly to save HP by not buying slots and partly just because they seemed like a waste sitting there and never being used, so I am seriously lacking in 1* covers. I don't mean to say I cannot help out and be competitive, because I can still whop some butt with just a level 45 Ironman model 35 and level 50 BW, if I play reasonably smart and have some cascading luck.(I do have hawkeye, BW, and Jugs but still very few covers of each)
I have changed my strategies, with some help from one of Fluffyudders other posts, I realized certain key covers are necessary from time to time, and once I gain another 10 slots(already bought 5) I will be back in a position where I can really begin to hoard HP. So I have been working on adding more slots and adding 1* covers along with other key covers like Cap and Hood. I realize now I have set myself back a bit, although I do still appreciate my previous strategy for allowing my to collect more 3* and 4* covers and leveling so many up quite quickly. However I will eventually have retrieved all my old characters and plenty of new ones all while doing my best for my alliance.0 -
Real quick post cos I know time is short, but if you want to avoid being attacked in the lone star pvp and can't afford a shield, go iron man venom jugs combo, no-one will touch you if they're all max level, too tanky!0

A couple of points:
First off, thanks again quadiak for the sig. I would tweak it just a little if I could, just moving the actual "F2P VETERANS" text so that it doesn't overlap the black border on the right, maybe to the left so it covers that mark (I think it's a signature? I dunno). Maybe make the text a little bigger as well... but these are just suggestions, see what you think.
Secondly, we were very unlucky in the lone star tournament. I can confirm that with 2 minutes left to run we were ranked at #101 (I tinykitty you not!), I rushed a last second fight with much jugs headbutting but it wasn't enough. Hopefully next time eh?
Also, how's everyone getting along with the simulator? Our overall alliance rank is slipping and we're in danger of dropping out of the top 250 if we don't pick it up a little. Is anyone in the group having trouble?0 -
101st with 2minutes left to go? Argh. The tournament ended during work hours for me so I did as much as I could during my lunch break. Managed top 5 in my bracket for a couple of Hood covers.
I also noticed we're slipping in the Simulator alliance rankings. I fear it might just be a matter of numbers. If you look at all the alliances around us, they all have more than 5 members. Looking at the top alliance scores after the second round, an average of 100,000 per member looks to be good. Top alliances have a score of 2,000,000 for 20 members. That's what we seem to be averaging at around 500,000 for 5 members so in that respect we are doing ok.
The sig looks nice! Great job quadiak!0 -
I have to admit I dropped the ball on the last 10 minutes of the lone star tourney.
I had twice been a finger tip away from 500 points and got knocked back down, but in the last ten minutes, my sad excuse for a 1* team had used up all my health packs and I watched helplessly as I slipped further from 500. Luckily I did still manage a top 25 finish, and got a hood cover and some much needed HP.
I'm glad you guys are liking the sig, I think size wise it looks good now, I will work at the editing a bit more. I do completely agree with your ideas Fluffyudders, so I will see what I can do. I am thinking the "F2P VETERANS" text should be much larger. I will hit you up with another sample soon.
I see the new god of thunder tourny is an alliance tourney as well, with some sweet Patches covers. Of course the yellow covers are the alliance prizes. Hopefully we will have a bit better luck with this one.
I don't think we need to worry to much about the simulator at this point, I know for myself I have only finished the first couple missions on each heat. We will jump quite rapidly as we complete the missions. I know my personal placement in the last heats suffered a little due to the lone star tourny, so its time to focus once again.0 -
Worth pointing out that so long as you have the required cover, hitting just missions 8 9 amd 10 works really well for getting a good score. I keep consistently hitting at least top 10 like this. They're worth the most points and they're actually easier fights to boot. The tricky part is taking the 12 hour refresh into account, but rubberbanding means these fights are sometimes worth 3000 points.0
-
Just spotted that in the simulator we are currently a few ranks behind an alliance called "Big Spenders" who have 13 members.
I think we just found our arch-nemesis.0 -
These last events finished at a bad time for me, as there is no way I could escape work for a round or two. I shielded up Lone Star at 488 points (a stupid decision on my 2nd last round cost me the 500 progression HP rewards).
Timing on the finish time for the PvE meant I couldn't grind out the past few hours like I normally do to get max rubber banding. I've been doing exactly what Fluffyudders has been doing with the high point, easier "essential character" nodes. Hopefully I can keep up this event, I only have one BP cover.
Did anyone read that post in General discussion about the PvE events? Had some interesting info which I didn't know.0 -

Which post are you revering to Wil88? I don't mean to be too lazy to look for myself, but I find there is an overwhelming amount of useless info on to some the posts in this forum. Thanks0 -
Oops. My bad. It's in tips ang Guides. I think it's called PvE Guide. OP is Eddiemon.0

Sorry guys I just realized deleting the old sig from photobucket left you guys sig less. I have pmed everyone the new modified sig.0

Thanks quadiak, great work again!0
