I like the sharper edges and the new arrangement of tiles. I do not like the mega-giant event tiles at all. They're ugly and they get in the way of usability.

Maybe the new design (stretched images aside) has some added backedn functionality? Maybe with higher res images it will look better.

The contrast on the popups is very bad for readability.

My token count is locked at 99, was it always the case ? (i've never hoarded before)
  • I do like that it separates out the prologue from the rest of the story events, so I don't have to move past it when I want to look at event results.

I also strongly dislike the "neon" edges in the dialogue boxes and some UI elements. It seriously looks amateur as hell and I'm not randomly saying this; I'm a professional graphic designer.

Same place I'm coming from, but I'm prepress. This would have been rejected on first proofs haha!

The layout of the new interface is ok (not great, just ok) but it's clear that D3 increased the size of the event icons well past the point they should have with these low resolution images. It looks amateur like and should have never been released like this. When did people stop taking pride in their work? Seriously, this is more embarrassing than having spell check replace “inconvenience” with “incontinence” in an email being sent out company wide.

Yes it has always been that way at least when I started hoarding a year ago.

It definitely needs some aesthetic adjustment. The things that stood out for me:

    1) Why do we need blue, purple, and red highlighting on the Prologue/Story/Versus tabs (when selected)? Too many colors make it look disjointed. Keep that light blue highlighting from the Prologue tab.
    2) I wouldn't mind the oversized boxes for the events, if they weren't so obviously upsized from lower-res assets. They are ugly on my iPad mini retina; I imagine they would look pretty atrocious on a regular iPad or a standard 20+ inch desktop monitor.
    3) Artifacting, and not the good kind! Take a close look at the Train, Roster, and Alliance button icons. That looks like .jpg compression artifacting to me, and not a subtle darker glow.
    4) New pop-up boxes - just ugly, and more difficult to read. Menacing, somehow - I liked the lighter blue and rounded edges on the pre-today pop-up boxes.

On the plus side, I like the alliance button, so that's a step forward for usability.

This new interface is absolutely hideous. Aesthetically there was nothing wrong with the old one. Just seems like a step backwards if anything. What I would like to see is better organisational capabilities for dealing with an ever expanding unwieldy roster/claim rewards and not cosmetic changes.

Kinda liked the old interface. Sigh...
  • I always keep seeing in the dev videos that many of the changes the players want aren't implemented because of limited resources. Fair point, but you can't expect the playerbase to not be frustrated when those limited resources are used to design an ugly UI that didn't need fixing in the first place when the mobile Battle UI has been SCREAMING for an update since I started playing a year ago. Someone else already did the design work, it's ready and waiting.

Don't fall into the sunk cost trap (which ironically the new Vault uses to try and entice players to buy more tokens) and feel like you have to put more resources on this because someone spent some amount of hours designing the new UI. Go back to the old main UI, and spend some resources fixing the battle UI. The playerbase will thank you for it.

Marvel Puzzle Quest has not been tracking well in the over 85's focus groups. This new change is the first of many designed to really grow the brand into this market.

There are a few more changes on the horizon which I can preview for you today.
    • Dialogue in all events will be replaced by dialogue from
      The Golden Girls.
    • Upcoming character: Matlock!
    • All references to tacos and chimichangas will be replaced with bran.

More BIG changes are on their way, so stay tuned.

I love neon icon_e_biggrin.gif old school vibe! But really this new design has some issues but what really stand out it's the size of things... And still no 1lvl up button.

Edit: a small typo icon_cool.gif usual

To be fair, IceIX did post early screenshots ahead of time and folks weren't complaining as much (most actually seemed to like it):

    viewtopic.php?style=1&f=7&t=31921

I guess once now that we have it in our hands, it changes opinions a bit more, lol.

With all the real problems this game has, some of which have been addressed, but most of which have not, I find it insulting that the developers wasted their time putting out this gosa. Unless of course they were trying to emulate a dos based video game. In which case, they nailed it.

ha! you nailed it. when i opened the app after the update, my first thought was 'i didn't think i signed up for the large-print reader's digest edition of MPQ...'

i do like the new tabs at the bottom of the home screen, and was at least eager to see if the UI had changed at all within gameplay or the ever-clunky alliance chat, but alas, no...
