I have a gripe with MPQ. Not the game, mind you, but the people on the forums who are whining about everything.

It's a game. It's a fun one, mind you, one that I have sunk more time into than Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin's Creed IV...combined. A game that, while on vacation in Cancun, snuck away from the beach (and the wife) on more than one occasion to get a glimpse of WiFi and get my daily reward. A game that last night, I sat refreshing constantly because I was curious JUST WHAT WOULD HAPPEN when the world gathered 70 million intel. A game that has probably convinced my co-workers I have Crohn's disease.

I'm a bit more competitive in the game than my friends, but my friends enjoy it and I catch them playing at work almost daily. They're still running their IM35, M. Storm and M. Black Widow out there, battling through the prologue, tasting the angst of the lightning rounds, debating which character to nuke so they don't lose that Bullseye cover they somehow pulled from a standard token. Their biggest complaints? Thor and Wolverine, and how without them, they were getting destroyed in the PvP and PvE.

Like I said, I'm a bit more competitive. Guilty like everyone else, I ran out a Wolvie and a Thor, +3 all, +3 red/yellow, +3 black/green. Feral, feral, Thor red, Thor yellow, feral. And I knew that others were doing the same to me. I'd score a healthy cover of Hulk or the Punisher, but Hulk uses green/red, Punisher uses green/red, and that was Thorverine territory.

I applaud the "nerfing" of Thorverine. It'll be good to see some Punishers, or Hulks, or Hoods, or whatever else, in tournaments. It's good for the game. It reminds me of why I started to play it to begin with - it was like Candy Crush, but not a money grab (anyone who has played Candy Crush can tell you, MPQ is NOTHING compared to that money grab). It was a game of chess..."if I get this 3 red, the opponent can do a match 5, hurt me a lot, but then I can use Repulsor Blast and knock one out...hmm..." The cheapness of Thorverine and the cheapness of boosts squandered that enjoyment. It made each battle a chore, each level a grindfest rather than the puzzle it was (note to developers - would LOVE some challenge levels like use stock characters X, Y and Z at certain levels to try and beat a stronger team, with a small bit of Iso as the reward).

The fact that we are so deeply impacted by this change...so deeply offended...doesn't that tell you just how abused the characters/boosts were? How messed up things were? And...to another extent...just how invested you are in the game?

This game is great. Five stars all the way.

But we have to expect the changes. This game isn't done. I hope its a much better game 6 months from now because of all these growing pains. It's certainly much better than what it was when I started back in October.

And I think the communication is much better than what we would expect from other game companies. Some changes can't be communicated far out for either development or business reasons. And even if they could, it might not always be wise for them to do so. I think they found a pretty happy medium. This is just patch day backlash and nothing more, in my eyes.
I don't know... the game says "Launch Edition" which, to me, stands for "we're released now!" which means it should be treated as a finished product.

You can update your reviews on Google Play. I change mine according to how the game is playing for me at the time. Currently it's 1 star. I changed it when the PVP changes were implemented and shield prices increased. Three weeks before that it was a steady 4 stars and had been pretty much since I began playing. These past few weeks it feels like a tornado going through and tearing things up. Hopefully things will settle down sooner than later. Hopefully I'll not have given up by then.

To me, rating on the app store is not for the devs. It's for other players as a warning to not waste their time. Basically it's a sign saying, "If you're looking for fun, look elsewhere." I know that I personally read reviews before I download stuff.

As the game is now, for a brand new player who doesnt know of the pricing history. They pick it up and start playing the prologues and fight some other newbies..... are they truly only going to have a 1 star experience? Do you really think that?
I do think that. The pricing increase was just sauce. The real problem is matchmaking, scoring, progression rewards, rubberbanding, the implementation of shields and then essentially removing their efficacy by increasing their price to outrageous (that one thing has now been fixed). In other words, PVP. If somebody only wanted to play for PVE, I would've said it was still fun... Until they implemented this asinine points system that decreases points rewarded while increasing enemy level. So, yes, currently I believe that a new player just starting the game will have more frustration and puzzlement than fun. I think those of us who are disgruntled yet still playing are here because we remember the good old days and are expecting/hoping that things will smooth out and become fun again. A new player doesn't even have those memories to keep him going.

We'll have to differ on that point. We exist in a microcosm of the players who care enough to go online and post about things, and learn more about their inner workings. A new player is gonna load up the game, See Puzzle Quest with Iron Man, and go from there on their jolly way. I think they'd enjoy the game enough that its a better download for them than a lot of other **** that's out there, and with those who have the money. None of these issues seem to be game breakers to me.

I don't think threads like this achieve anything.

I have learnt over the years they way to help not only the devs, community managers and importantly the player base is to provide constructive feedback. Threats and the like do very little except make you look childish.

I ask you guys even though most of you will brush it aside and be keyboard warriors; to provide the devs with feedback they can use.

The boost cost change sucks. Some people are now really struggling in this event. Hiding shields is not game breaking they still function and if someone is in the top 5-7 of Pvp you can almost bet they are shielded.

And finished products should never change?
  • This is the last weekend playing this game for me. I've spent ~$400 over the past 2 month and I'm done wasting my time @ this game.

Hope this game goes to the dumps. The constant changes to nerf and "patches" that only targets to have you spend done it for me @ this recent months changes.

HF to those who can enjoy this game!

This is a live game. There will likely be changes until the day it closes. That's the way of live games in general.

It also shows that the people on this forum care about this game and want this game to be the best, but the anger comes in when people see what they believe the game is on a downhill slope with no end in sight.

People have pointed out a number of problems with the game, but the developers just keep attempting to work on the symptoms instead. They want to implement a skip cost, but haven't addressed the issue with the fact that the majority of matches you're given are extremely unfavorable. Either the opposing team is not something you can feasibly fight (especially now that boosts are more expensive) or the opposing team is worth so few points that you'll lose double to quadruple when the retaliate. The dev's solution? shields! for money!

People here were mad with the rags nerf and a chunk of the anger was that the change occurred in the middle of lightning rounds. Instead of listening to this, the devs nerf Wolverine and Thor in the middle of a paid pvp event, when they could have put it this friday or last friday before the events started. Instead, we're told "there's not good time so we'll just do them whenever".

I play this game and post here because I enjoy the game. These forums aren't exactly advertised; you do have to look for them. I came to these forums because I like this game. The more I play the more they change things for the worse. Maybe these changes will pan out over time, but nothing good is given in the interim.

I understand that. I play plenty of live games. I was responding to Dninot's comment about this game being finished.

This game will undoubtedly change, but it currently feels much more like a beta than a launch.

That's what forums are for. I said in another thread, people usually only speak up when they're unhappy about something or are amicably hoping for a change. That's what you're going to find on forums. If you're happy and content, you're too busy playing to waste time posting about it. I don't think the forums reflect what the player base as a whole feels. It's not a cross-section. You'll inevitably find a larger clump of negativity here. But there are also positive, praise filled threads. Those posts don't get dismissed as somebody being delirious on happy juice. Why is it okay to dismiss negative posts as whining? People are justified in the way they're feeling and they're entitled to voice it. Just because you're fine with the changes doesn't mean everybody else has to be. This is where people come to share their opinions in the hope that the devs will hear. How else are the devs going to know what they've done right and where they've veered off the path? They clearly have a problem sometimes getting it right even when it is shouted at them in multiple threads by dozens of people for weeks/months on end.

Wow, scared to comment almost. Like a lot I have invested a fairly substantial amount of time and money into the game and still really want it to succeed. I have defiinately slowed down in my playing time which is not a bad thing since I was spending too much time playing but as a middle tier player I gotta say the current events and boost charge changes are kicking my but.

I lucked out and got both Patch and 4* Wolvie so was feeling pretty good last weekend before the leveling hit. That and the nerfing of u know who and I can barely win a round.

Definately not giving up but am sitting out most of the current tourneys which bums me out, cause I wanted to get going with DD but I can wait. Sad to see people go but hopefully will give more of us a chance. Heh heh.

And thanks IceX for braving it in here this week. Don't give up on us.

Unless I get hit by a bus or something, giving up isn't in the cards. Even then, I hear Dragon Naturally Speaking is getting better with its recognition, maybe I could use that to post. icon_e_smile.gif

Don't give them any ideas IceIX, they seem pretty angry at the moment lol.

You know what annoys me the most? How hard/time consuming it is to fully develop a char. You have to get 13 for him, then like 80K iso. During that time, three new chars came out, but will also take you that long to develop. So you stick with your guys, you´re gonna get him there. Then you do. And it feels great. Then they nerf him.

Also, if it´s gonna cost several thousand iso to properly level a player, why do we keep getting 100 iso rewards? How much would it cost if you wanted to buy all the iso you need to fully level a player? 100 bucks? more? (not that I would want to).

Why do 99% of the tokens give me ****? and why, once I do get that ****, it only sells for 125 iso, while a specific cover (leveling a power) costs me 1250 HP? I think there is some dissonance that needs to be dealt with.
  • I just had to voice my opinion. I'm not as much angry as feeling frustrated.

My complaint isn't even about nerfs or boosts costing HP. Hero tweaks have to keep happening to fluctuate the meta-game.

My issue is with the new events. I think a system might have been implemented whereby the PvE battles are adjusted to your performance in previous battles. At the start of the Maggia events I was tearing through the battles and finished top 6-10 and won my first Patch Wolfie. Then, once I managed to beat a couple of 100+ baddies the system seems to have decided that that's my standard level and so when the new Maggia event was unlocked I straight away had to face level 100+ enemies and I am unable to make it more than 2-3 battles in. Maybe the point rewards scale well enough with the stronger enemies as one battle gave me 1000 event points, but I still feel like I'm hitting a wall.

There are two problems with this.
1: Even the starting battles are too difficult for me to even grind out the 4 rewards available.
2: I miss out on the little bit of "story" that's actually available. (I like the little bits of conversation and story progression that are available and now I'm missing out on them entirely because I can't get past the first few battles).

The suggestions group is filled with feedback. A plenty of it excellent -- others say 90% is ****, but that still leaves 10% good.

But that stuff is not getting implemented/fixed. The dogs bark the caravan goes ahead its own way. For a moment forget the funbalancing and prices just look at UI requests -- they went the very opposite direction. And appear to have a ton of resources to drop and shining pixels (just to ruin the view) fixing the core stuff and related modeling/testing is starved along with general testing in time. Resulting in broken hero abilities, broken PVE and broken PVP (though the latter's state might be along the actual aim just the players suffer).

So after all the constructiveness that is well there is showed aside what else remains than to leave and post realistic 1-star reviews to at least warn others to save their time and nerves, along with other resources.

Last Friday there was just one event. Also happened 2-3 weeks ago. Might be a better time.
    Yes. This.

And if you have to do it during a PvE event, do it during an unaltered rerun.

The boosts though... What a D*CK move, seriously. It just stinks of greed and feels like a slap in the face. Especially, as others have noted, in conjunction with the PvE scaling. This is the first F2P game I've spent money on and I've really been enjoying it up until this last round of changes.
    This x 100.
  • Wow...what do you say regarding charging 1 usd when you want to use a boost. Its bad enough that you have gradually found more ways to get money from people. You think you would have at least got your player base up to 1 mil before you pulled the old mobage/cygames trick. You are no better than crack dealers offering a cheap product then once your users get hooked, well jack the price up. Sure people will still give you money for imaginary intangible items but you will lose membership. There are more imaginative ways to produce a profit. Freemium games are killing gaming...for once it would be great if a developer that was actually a gamer put themselves in the shoes of their customers. Sure we have the option to stop playing...but why be that company? At first it was refreshing to play a freemium game that seemed different from the rest; but ultimately it comes down to greed. You have gotten my last dollar D3.
