Well, it's RIP in Piece for me. GG gobstopper, hope you can make a push into top 2. I'll be very very lucky to make top 10 now.

Not sure what happened, but I had points in my main dry up while I was doing missions last night. I'll make top 50, so I guess there's that.
  • Heya from "Hell's bracket", so far seen in my bracket:
    Phantron
    Nemek
    thereck
    Derethus
    Nonce Equitaur
    mischiefmaker
    Kiamodo
I'm pretty sure I saw some other names too.
Just broke through 48k with abysmal 300 points lead (and it keeps shortening).
    This is hell, really.

Lol, good luck getting top 10 there... icon_eek.gif
  • The points on the sub will still matter. When your missions are down to 1 point each, even those 20 point random missions are worth a lot. It probably won't matter to most people unless you're fighting for positions at the top.

At first, yes, so it could be that people started late. To maintain those kind of scores you do eventually need to be grinding down the wall of 230s with the rest of us, though. If you're really concerned someone ranking high doesn't look legit, send a ticket. I assume that's as much as anything else what the stalking feature is for.

There's also the glorious new invention of PvE tanking. I've been trying pretty determinedly to do that (both retreating and dying, not sure if it really makes a difference) to little avail. Can't keep even intro stuff below 150 and the moment I complete a few missions it's all back up to 200+. I did just grind down 230s for days straight, though, albeit largely skipping some refreshes, so maybe someone who hasn't done that is able to force them back down to trivial levels.
  • Either I'm doing way more dying than most people are or most people did way more missions than I did (which is weird since the lowest sub finish I have was #3), but I've never had the middle range stuff at 230 after some initial dying. There's pretty much always a 230 mission, and quite a few in the 150s, but I never had this 'wall of 230'. At any rate, the goon missions don't even matter very much if they're all 230 because I just retreat before any Tommy Gun gets resolved (you almost always lose less HP this way). Seriously, don't stick around to find out what happens when a Tommy Gun resolves.
  • The only 230 I've fought successfully is the Hood solo, and haven't even bothered trying most of the others. That may be the key to keeping the mission levels down - I can keep most of the others to at least sub-150, and it's allowed be to grind pretty effectively (I was in top 10 this morning; I suspect I'll be ~20th when I get home from work, if this morning is anything to go by). FWIW, My team has been 70th level Patch, 53rd Spidey, 55th OBW.
  • All you guys fighting 230s are freaking nuts. (Except Hood solo, he doesn't change). You're not tanking correctly or enough. I've kept every mission at the lowest possible level (final Magneto/Hood mission for example goes to 47 for me). If the levels go too high in the middle of a sub or main just tank some more. They will go down within 15-20 retreats.

I think you were in the top spot when the 8 hour mark hit, so you're in good shape. I didn't care to time my second to last one perfectly, so I was around 20ish. Just got to outplay 10 people on the last refresh...! We'll see how that goes...

It probably does depend on what you've done previously, maybe your ranking, maybe your hidden overall ranking, and lord knows what other undisclosed voodoo Demiurge thought was a good idea at the time, but I've put my entire roster through the grinder multiple times and never seen it get anything like that low. I have 36 slots. I honestly thought Business Partners was an obligatory 230 like The Who, because I've never seen it go below that.

Don't worry, you still have rubberbanding to save you on the very last set of points.

I, on the other hand, might not even be able to play at the end, now that Steam is down.

Okay this could be, this the the first pve I've been in at a competitive level, but in this event I've been grinding every sub twice every refresh, won every bracket except one, and have been ranked 1-13 since the event began in my main bracket. It could be my hidden MMR is much lower than veteran players but I'm not sure.

This PvE event was a complete disaster for me, i felt very sad during those 7 days.
I've started playing pretty early in the event, and i had a good start getting 3 heroic tokens. Ever since then, every other subevent was impossible for me to get a good place, usually being so low ranked that i got iso icon_e_sad.gif
I could manage to beat the level 170 henchmen fights in a few tries, but anything with dark avengers were imposible, expecially the ones with a control henchmen granting Ares resources..

I feel sad about it, so many tokens missed. I didnt had the pretention to grab patch (#1 place), but the heroic tokens could be so helpful. I've managed to grab a large stock of healthpacks after the hunt (17) but i got beaten so bad that i'm back to waiting for my 5 healthpacks. From what i've read from you guys, this event was like this for me because i started playing so early, and the game had a different system of setting the enemy levels...basically since when i've started there was so few players, the game assumed that the enemies should all be 170-240 to be fair. The people that started later on have the fights being much normal and fair, since why i see many people with 1 star rosters grabbing some heroic tokens (grats on you guys).

Also, the negativity on the forums made me feel even worse icon_neutral.gif
Back in december here was a place of people being nice, and sharing opinions.

I want to thank a lot to ItsTime and Mischiefmaker for their kind words and their advice. I know it will get better, and i plan to start the next PvE event much better prepared.
Good luck everyone on the final 8 hours, getting Daredevil. I cant wait for you to tell the less fortunate ones like me if he is a good hero, and what team you would use him.
  • After the patch fix, boost increases and 230 lvl teams all day I'm just shooting for top 500 so I can get some HP. Also being in the bracket with Nemek and friends doesn't help. icon_e_smile.gif

While the missions max at 230 they still gain "stacks" needed to be regressed via tanking. So if you get a match to 230 and then tank 30 times other missions might drop nut the 230 stay the same. Usually by the time you get the easy stuff to about 50 the 230 should be below 230. Roster of 30, only killing off about 24-25 of them, (about 4 retreats to a kill, 2 characters used, so 25/2 *4...50 retreats) 50 retreats usually gets me down about 10 stacks of enemy lvls. That's basically turns a lvl 100 first mission into a lvl 20 or so. I don't know if there is a cap on the 230 stacks but its possible you fought so many matches without retreating that the hidden stacks on the 230 were ridiculously high..in theory.
  • I made the unfortunate mistake of joining this pve event early and ended up in this tough group (nemek etc). Won I think 4 of the subgroups but I think I'll end up missing out on one main bracket refresh since they're much too tight for most people. (Future suggestion to the DEVs - twice a day regardless of when you finish would be a great change rather than 8 hours from your last finish.) Perhaps a personal progress bar similar to the pve world event progress bar could fix the rubberbanding scoring problem.

Rubberbanding is really not a good mechanic (trying to be pc about it) as you shouldn't be rewarded over people who put in more effort because you're 'falling behind/started late/didn't notice a new event began' Seems like something that only belongs in Mario Kart

Been near the top of this probably half the time the last few days and probably wouldn't have grinded half as much if it wasn't necessary. I think the DEVs should consider more progression rewards in these long events. On that thought, maybe PVE shouldn't have any tournament style reward but rather purely progression. Perhaps another currency style reward that can be used to purchase characters/covers for upgrades to one you already have. Perhaps more token rewards? This is supposedly PV (E), not PV (P) right?

The main reason I didn't enjoy this pve event as much as the few before it which is probably obvious to everyone now is the scaling/tanking of enemies. I understand the dev's said this was an error in coding so hopfully they don't implement this mechanic again. The Hunt atleast had the 'challenge mobs' after you finished all the others within your reach.

A fixed point system makes so much more sense where something is always worth a certain amount regardless of who else is playing. It's easier to manage and rewards those who deserve it. For the arguments about how can the new player compete, well 1. they shouldn't be able to compete directly against people with 25 maxed characters. 2. Split future main/sub categories by progression of your characters rather than first come first serve. Someone with 9 or 10 maxed 2/3 star characters shouldn't be going up against someone who's played for a few weeks in a pve event. 3. If you join later,- you join a bracket that starts later as well so you wouldn't be at a direct disadvantage.

Allowing us to see rosters during this event is an interesting and great idea, (not just for spotting cheaters) one that gives us ideas for group makeup or talent/color splits. I must admit it's not great seeing all these people (most of whom probably play on pc's where you can hack) with only 1 or 2 max characters blowing through the same content and passing you up in points despite hours and hours of grinding. But you get an idea of what you're up against.

    Anyhow-

First post. Lots to say but squeezing in a few words while at work.

Would love some offline modes to be added in the future pve events (a-la puzzle quest 1/2 style using the marvel characters)
