"Hello, and welcome to another edition of Balance of Power, where you're free to play whatever teams you like up until the last six hours of the tournament, when everyone will switch over to Sentry!"
My bracket was interesting. Well, let's start off with, this PVP in general was interesting. It was pretty tough to ever hang with more than 600 points without losing 100 over an extended period of time. Early on though, that's fine. Play other weird teams, strike back.
When I decided to push I made a mad dash from 550 or so up to 920+ and shielded. Used more shields than I planned on, but Millrus gave me a solid run for it. I'm fairly certain if Millrus did not already have a fully covered Fury, I might not have been able to snag 1st at the end. I can't remember a time I've been in a bracket where 1st was more than double 10th....without someone being over 2k.
Definitely a fun event, and honestly something I'd like to see stick around as an alternative to shield training. Don't even put in any crazy progression rewards or prizes. Just make a playground where anyone can go beat up on anyone else with all sorts of weird teams. That part of this event is awesome. Especially with the bumps to characters that are not maxed. When it came down to grinding for placement...less fun.

Only in the last hour, while my usual suspects (Juggs, Ares, etc.) were wounded and exhausted I found the most powerful team in the event... 2* Daken + Spiderman. Add either Punisher or Human Torch, who will be tanked by Daken in green and black. Daken tanks even purple for Spiderman! Spidey only has to care for blue (who cares about yellow) and Pun/HT for red, but Spiderman's protect tiles keep it all nice and safe. Daken can eat the nukes, and then regenerate while the opponents deal only 1 damage to him. All while inundating the board with strike tiles and building up to cast massive Molotov Cocktails or Flame Jets. This team ate Juggernauts and Hulks like they were chicken nuggets (Nuggernaut?) while barely receiving any damage.0

Trying out different team combinations - particularly with characters you haven't levelled much - definitely made this a lot of fun again.0 -
Ran with LDaken, Juggernaut, CMags (I guess this turned into a farwell tour of sorts), even though my LDaken and CMags aren't cover capped yet. Decided that this was an event that I could afford to spent shields on, but I probably could have pushed a bit harder at the beginning. In the end, I spent 375HP on shields for 75 HP back in rewards and 2 She-Hulk covers, both of which I needed, which seems like a decent enough return on my investment.
Definitely won't be able to run that team again at the same level of effectiveness, not only will incoming changes reshape the meta but there's probably also going to be at least 2 new characters by then.0 -
I ran mostly with Ares, LCap and OBW/Hood, and it worked quite well for me. I was about even in points gained and lost on defense. The event was not a lot of fun though, with climbing in points being very slow and taking significant damage on almost every fight. The most fun moment I had was hitting a 17k+ health Hulk with Ares' onslaught with 30 green AP for an instant kill0

Went to bed on 420 odd, woke up with the purple Magneto thanks to the epic defensive skills of CStorm, Juggs and Daken. Who knew they were so effective defensively?
Ended up in 51st by one point which is a kick in the what's names0 -
So i managed 5th with an even 1000 pts. This allowed me to fully cover my she hulk. She is my 5th cover maxed character in about the last week, joining Patch, Punisher, Sentry, Falcon. I was also able to max level my Bp, as well as Patch.
All I to do now is get a ton of iso and decide who to level next.0 -
Managed 16th place with 668. Stuck with my Daken, Sentry, Falcon team at the end. Seems like when I tried out different combinations my defensive wins happened less. Still loved the event even though I didn't do any better or worse then in typical events. It was just fun to play around with roster combinations.0

My 814 (or whatever; too lazy to look it up) actually held 10th place, without any defensive wins after the shield. There had been about 100 points between me and #11 when I shielded, so I guess it held. Got me enough ISO (after selling the covers too) to almost finish getting my varsity team from 145 to 146. Luckily, LRs should get them a good chunk of the way up to 150.0

I got 13th and I only used a single 3 hour shield at the end. So you were probably buying too many shields.Pylgrim wrote:Only in the last hour, while my usual suspects (Juggs, Ares, etc.) were wounded and exhausted I found the most powerful team in the event... 2* Daken + Spiderman. It doesn't matter how little damage you take when you get hit in return. Especially in this your team is only as good as it is on defense. Spiderman is not scary at all and Daken neither. Punisher is the only one that can lay down a beating. If you want another team that takes almost no damage you can use Juggernaut/Daken/Ares. Daken tanks everything except for yellow. Make those a lvl 1 Juggs and a lvl 15 Daken and you can play really long with only short breaks.0
