Team-Up Feature Discussion

Don't worry, "this too shall pass – While you need to expect and accept that there will be a backlash and the first couple of days will be painful, give it a few days before you judge the results. In the early days of MPQ, Ragnarok was massively overpowered and the day we changed it players were furious. A week later, it was no longer a topic of widespread conversation."
Been playing on and off for a few hours now and I gotta say, not really enjoying it so much. Even the seed teams in LR are more irritating now.
I think it adds another (unnecessary) level of complexity to the game where numerous other things could have been done to improve it. It's also too vast a change to have come out underprepared all at once, eg. start with a handful of powers and build up. Sort of a half hate.
I appreciate they are trying something new but I am becoming increasingly frustrated as they keep dancing around much more fundamental things that need to be done and these "bonus" additions are a side bit of distraction.
Does it add something to the sort of patchwork balancing of characters we have now? Yeah, kinda.
Would it be a useful to have a single integrated bonus power / boost feature as part of a whole roster of well balanced characters? Sure.0 -
I've had BP and Thor drop 2 yellows on me on back to back turns (seperate matches) because the AI can apparently bring themselves as back up unlike real players. My further analysis will be plagiarized completely from recklessreckless442 and arogntbastrd wrote:This is the stupidest idea imaginable. The Devs have basically eliminated any semblance of strategy from the game. What is the point of matching my team to a particular opponent, planning on how I will counter his powers when he will pull out of the hat a completely different set of unknown powers? Ha, you thought you were fighting Thor/Black Panther/Magneto. How about a little Berzerker's Rage on top of that? Goons in PVE? Here's a little of Ares' Onslaught.
And then, to top it off, I have to go to the prologue to try to burn off the useless TUs that I can't delete and don't want to waste space that I need in PVE and PVP battles.
I'm sure newbies love this because it means they get to use all those powers they don't have. Great for them. Meanwhile, I'm wondering why I've been slogging my way through every PVP and PVE for months to build a roster. I could have just waited.
Did anyone seriously think this through before it was implemented? This is a game-changing addition, yet there was no discussion about it at all.
This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. I've stuck through ridiculous PVE scaling, MMR changes, the Spidey nerf, true healing, and all of the efforts to increase monetization. But with this, the entire game is just broken.0 -
So next time i play a pve match against a lvl395 team of daken ,bullseye and goon, i'm probably going to be hit by a lvl 395 headbutt, supernova or world rupture.....that's so **** ridiculous.0
-
And please stop reminding me that my inventory is full. I get it.
Based on your "true healing" philosophy, I am not going to prologue to "anti-heal" because that would not be the best use of my playing time, right?
I have been trying to use them, but as I am actually targeting colours (you know, to actually kill the enemy), I am not usually reaching the required amount of points needed, so the option is not triggering. But it is, and often, for the enemy.0 -

And if you beat them, YOU'LL be the one running around in PVP with level 395 Headbutt, World Rupture, and Supernova.0 -

At 395 a world rupture or a supernova kills your whole team, there's no beating that, and if i down bullseye then daken can activate it, there's no escaping it, complete ****0 -
I don't exactly hate TUs (yet), but I just had an enemy Thor team with two Thor team ups. Seriously?0

They don't have to be of a player. In PVE, heros can be buffed to 395. You win, you can get a level 395 team up ability.
I've been having fun using the level 140 Onslaughts that have been dropping in the current PVE. Waiting for scaling to go up to save some more powerful ones.0 -
Was already having a hard time, I have no maxed characters, yet pull them in pvp all the time, with this addition, its making the 3 star transition even harder. Im losing about half my pvp matches since the patch.0

See LRs; you can have level 249 Berserker Rage/Sniper Rifle/Judgement/etc. team ups, but in all other events where Patch/GSBW/Punisher/etc are not buffed, you'll get normal lvl 166 versions.
Edit: is it true? Were you able to get lvl 140 Onslaught? Ares is not buffed in any event currently so I don't understand the disparity, unless it's a PvP/PvE thingy.0 -

In LR's, the team-ups are a base level 166, and the event is buffing them to level 249.
In PVE's, scaling doesn't buff a character's level (no purple highlighting). Scaling raises the base level.
A player can't wield a level 140 Ares, yet I can wield a level 140 Onslaught when Ares is not buffed.0 -
Count me as another who thinks this TU for pvp is utterly stupid. If it were limited to PVE only, ok then TUs could be cool as people hit insane scaling. But for pvp, the thought process behind it is perplexing. If the goal is to ensure more damage be taken in all encounters or give 2*s more in their arsenal to compete, then have heroic pvps then where TUs can be used in a regular pvp and for heroic pvp bracket, no boosts or TUs and better rewards. If you can run to concurrent subs, you can run 2 concurrent pvps. Otherwise I am close to done too if this is the best d3 can come up with for new gameplay mechanics.0

Echoing yogi - I don't hate the idea behind Team-Ups, but it's frustrating that this was their big reveal (apart from Deadpool) at SDCC. Would have rather they stayed home and fixed some fundamental needs in the game instead0
-
Vet Summary:
TU is a terrific addition for new and even mid-range players.
TU is an atrocious addition for veteran players.
Solution:
Split the game in two.
For new and mid-range players: TU and true healing, lower rewards.
For veteran players: Enviro tiles (with fixes players have suggested months ago) and NO healing, greater rewards. (NO healing explanation: this way, when a character is down in an event, they stay down, and you have to think through your combos. full post on this upcoming.)
You can opt in to the easy bracket or the hard bracket at the start of any new PvP or PvE, but then you stay there.0 -
I'd rather prologue heal than spend time in prologue getting rid of **** team ups0

Anyone noticed more unlikely defensive losses yet?
My maxed Punny/L110 Panther/L80 Carol apparently got taken out by a loaner/L70 CStorm / L80 AWolvie - that's either the mother of all cascades or team-up help.0 -

Though I can understand how it's possible if my last match was any indication - epic cascade > Supernova > World Rupture > Thunderstrike > Call of the Storm > 3 Health Packs used if I want to continue.
I chose to quit instead.0
