  • I have seem some team members talk about their strategy including tanking and when to shield within the in-game chat, but I wanted to ask here since I'd rather type here. What strategy does everyone use? I am looking for how to improve my scores as I just got my second top 25 finish in a pvp event. I was 60 points away from top 10 but was afraid to unshield and push for fear of being hit and falling outside top 25 and getting the two covers. Also, why is it that I rarely find an opponent that will award me more than 30 points?

Sorry for the delayed answer, busy at work.
My strategy is to climb in three steps, as I don't have the time to do it all during the last day of the event.
Step 1 - win a match, then tank a bit using my lowest heroes, win another match, tank again etc until I get around 20 losses. Then I play for real until I get around 300 points. No shield here.
Step 2 - keep playing and (rarely) skipping until I get to around 550-600. Depending on the bracket I'm in, I might use an 8h shield just to make sure I get past the most active period of the event (8h before the end) with my points intact. Timing is key here - starting too soon leaves me exposed too much.
Step 3 - with under 8h remaining until the end, I start my final run with 5 health packs ready and my main team at 100%, advancing as much as possible. I usually skip a lot of opponnents during this step; I'm looking for a balance between points gained and health lost during the battle. Ideally I end my run with less than 3h before the end and use a small shield.
Overall, I either use one 8h and one 3h shields, or three 3h shields. Lately I keep finishing in top 5, looks like having two maxed heroes really helps icon_e_smile.gif even if my opponents are at least 1 maxed + 2 100+.

(later edit) 30 points is a lot in PVP, so you shouldn't be skipping endlessly looking for these. I'd rather play two matches and save up on health than fight against 3 maxed guys just to get 30-40 points in one go. The exception is when I'm falling outside of top 5 in the last 5 min and I need those points badly.

Hey old pals! It's been pretty hectic for me in the mpq world working with the xmen. I hope all it's well with u guys and hulk united. If u guys need help with anything, let me know. I'm an old member of hulk united for the newer members or members who do not remember me. I'm just a pm away. Good luck guys

Hi 4play, looks like you did good for yourself icon_e_smile.gif To the current crew, 4play helped us grow to 20 slots way back before the Seasons began.
On helping out - sure, please share the secret arcane knowledge which lets you bag 1100 points per event regularly icon_e_biggrin.gif
Unless it involves playing 8h/day, 'cause I don't have that kind of free time icon_e_smile.gif
    Cheers!

Is there a downside to skipping? I will usually skip low level matches until it starts charing me iso.

So you do play the low point matches such as 17-20 points?

I even play 7-10 points if I can smash my way through without damage taken (easier since i lvl up lDaken & Patch).
No downsize to skipping AFAIK, except wasting ISO at some point.
  • Hey guys,

just logged in and won my first match (had been tanking in themorning then out with the family) and it said I wasn't in an alliance, and my heart sank. I went to the alliance chat and it said the same thing. I searched for HulkUnited, and it shoed 20 members, including myself, so I'm hoping it's jsut a bug, but I was really hoping you guys could confirmthis for me so I can send a ticket.

EDIT: AAAAnd it fixed itself. ALthough it did screw me out of the 200 ISO from the alliance rewards....

It happens when the hamster powering the servers gets overloaded - the alliance stuff is super-low priority so it gets dumped for more important tasks.
  • I'd like to know whether any of us is thinking about slowing down / retiring or moving up for better rewards.
I don't think the top 25 PVP rewards / top 50 PVE rewards are really worth the effort, so I'm happy with us aiming for top 100 PVP and occasionally top 100 PVE.

Heh, thanks icon_e_smile.gif It was really tight though, only 220 points between 95th and 101st... looks like everybody really wanted that Fury cover.
  • Hey only just found this place! Great job in season 3 guys and hopefully we can repeat this in the next one. Just reading through the previous comments and my only real thoughts are our PVP minimum should be 600 points, as your math showed for top 100 this is everyones equal share. I think if you are scoring less than that you aren't really a top 100 player and its only fair on the high scorers (big hair that season score was sick!) to not have to carry and actually benefit us.

Yeah, I'll do some more math soon, watch this space icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks! Once I realized I could probably get top 25 in my bracket, I was doing 1300+ on my last 4 pvp events and averaged like 1150 for the season.

As far as what we want out of the alliance, I'm okay with us just getting top 100 for covers, however I'd like it not to be so close. I'm not sure if I want to/can keep up this type of season/pvp score. And it just feels right now that I need to score this high for us to stay in top 100. While I love the alliance, I guess I just would like everyone else to score a bit higher minimally, so I'd be more comfortable scoring a bit less.

On a side note, woke up to a ton of rewards, and opened up 2x 10 packs to mostly trash so I just sold everything. And ended up selling my Fury cover =/

    Some ancient history first.
In Season 1 (http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8046) we were 100th place, with 197320 points.
In Season 2 (http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9777), the smallest fish in the pond was MBB FORUM BR with 170384 points.
In Season 3 (http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=11931), we only have the 99th alliance results so far, it's Moondragon with 189085 points.

There was an obvious burnout and relaxation effect after the colossal Season 1 effort, while in Season 3 people who missed out on Fury in the first two seasons worked harder than ever to get it (some alliances went as far as to split and merge their top 10 into a new alliance, if we judge by the messages in the Alliance section).

Assuming things will stay roughly the same, and being cautious, I think staying top 100 in Season 4 would require probably around 190000 points.

    Now, let's examine Season 3.

Season 3 went for a month, from June 15 to July 13.
    There were 12 PVP events:
    1. Unholy Outlaw (feat. The Hood)
    2. Category 5 (feat. Punk Storm)
    3. Webslinger (feat. Spiderman)
    4. Hotshot (feat. Human Torch)
    5. Hollowpoint Kiss (feat. Grey Widow)
    6. Blind Justice (feat. Daredevil)
    7. Army of One (feat. Punisher)
    8. Doctor's Orders (feat. Dr. Doom)
    9. Trial by Combat (feat. She-Hulk)
    10. God of Lies (feat. Loki)
    11. Top Gun (feat. Falcon)
    12. Krakadoom (feat. Ragnarok)[/list]

    plus the season-long Simulator.

(let me know if I forgot any event)

Top Simulator scores were around 2300, but top 100 scores were a lot less (around 1300-1400).
    So a top 100 Simulator alliance would make around 20 * 1300 = 26000 points.

That leaves 190000 - 26000 = 164000 points to be obtained from PVP events, an average of 164000 / 12 = 13667 points per event, leading to 13667 / 20 = 684 points per player, which is a bit higher than my previous estimate of 600.

To sum it up: the average score per alliance member for a top 100 alliance in Season 4 will probably be at least 684 points.

Ideally, to stay top 100, each of us should strive to bring this amount of points in every event.

The big question is: can we do it? icon_e_smile.gif

Write D3P and explain the situation. I can't believe they'll be as cruel as to NOT help you.
  • Looking for some roster advice. I spend a ton of HP yesterday on shields as I was getting hammered left and right. I currently have 450 HP which will allow me purchase a new roster slot for Nick Fury but deplete me of HP so no shielding in next PVP event (I am free player). So my question is, with the Fury cover and cDaken in current event (which I do not have either), should I sell someone, and if so, who?

This is the lower end of my roster:
    IM40 lvl 50 (1/2/4)
    DD lvl 40 (3/2/1)
    GSBW lvl 40 (3/1/1)
    Falcon lvl 40 (2/4/1)
    Hulk lvl 40 (1/2/1)
    Loki lvl 40 (2/2)
    BP lvl 40 (1/0/1)
    Ragnarok (1/1)
    She-Hulk lvl 40 (1/0/1)
    Modern Cap lvl 15 (4/5/4)
    Moonestone lvl 15 (4/5/4)
only one cover in the following: Steve Rogers, Doom, HT, Sentry, Spidey, Mohawk, Hood, and 2* Daken
  • Re: roster advice - the general rule of thumb is to keep all 3* covers as they'll all be required at some point, and dump all level 1 heroes as they're all worthless outside of the Lone Star tournament (I think the last one was four months ago. so that's a very rare occurrence). From the 2* heroes, Moonstone and Cap Am are weak, so you can dump those too.
So I'd rather buy the slot you need and try to survive without shielding until you save up more HP.

Thanks fo rthe advice. I used to be able to do okay without shields but lately I have been getting hit for 70-100 points during 10 minute periods towards the end of events. Is that normal?

Yes, especially if you hit above your weight. It's another monetization feature from D3P/Demiurge icon_e_smile.gif
  • Anyone have any experience using IM40? Is he worth leveling for current event and/or regular play? I haven't dropped any ISO in him yet but have 7 covers (1/2/4). I do have 185k ISO but just not sure if worth spending on him...his blue power is really expensive.

Take a look at the character rankings topic & the Polarity transition to 3* guide. IM40 is very middle of the road, so I wouldn't invest in him much. Mine is lvl61, and on the long term I aim to lvl up all my 3* to around lvl70 so they'll be more useful when featured/boosted.

Also, like I think I said before, seems the proper thing to do is save up iso until you can max up two 3* heroes at once. I had a very hard time when Punisher was my only maxed 3*, so I think it's better to be patient and hoard iso while you hope you'll get the covers you want (looked at your roster, and looks like LThor/Punisher/Falcon is a team you can reasonably aim for).
