Oh, good to know I never had a chance to finish in 1-5.

Was there alot of errors in the event? I had zero errors and haven't seen much reports in our coalition. I think there was one freeze but not anything out of the ordinary.0

Things imploded when the last charge started. They leveled out about 3 hours in.Rhasget said:Was there alot of errors in the event? I had zero errors and haven't seen much reports in our coalition. I think there was one freeze but not anything out of the ordinary.

Competition isn’t very fun when it’s not fair @BrigbyMburn7 said:zolesz said:How come people on the top of the leaderboard have more than 540 points? I lost 14 points in total and ended up with 526. Can someone explain it?Its one of two possibilities.1) Cheating2) A bug that gives you double charges on a node7 -
So, let me get this straight: having Europe's last round start at 2AM and end at Friggin 8 AM was INTENTIONAL?!Brigby said:Hi Everyone. My apologies for the confusion with The Dragon War event times. The event is on-time, however I had incorrectly listed it as PM in the Sneak Peek thread, as opposed to AM.
In order to avoid this issue from occurring in the future, I will be listing all times in Military Time format from now on. Sorry about that!2 -
For the start times I would like to say, while I sympathize with everyone in Europe, I live in Western North America, and what you faced for time difficulties this ONE past event is a constant for me.
I set an alarm and get up at 4:30AM to finish off weekend nodes before work.
It sucks, I know. But it was really nice to experience what all other time zones have the benefit of over the last years of events.
Just saying, there are those of us who deal with this week in and week out, so dont complain. It was a mistake and its sorted now.
On a side note, or actually, on a relevant note, @Brigby have you considered programing the last refresh of every event to last longer so people like me get an extra 4-6 hours to clear out our nodes, andanyone who has finished there nodes already (like our Euro players) can patiently wait for the time out to collect their coalition rewards?
It would be nice to be able to play like other timezone. I found I had much more fun and was more efficient and effective being able to clear my nodes in the daytime and evengings instead of 4 in the moring while trying to wake up and being extremely tired at work all day.
YOu could call it a plea for work/life/magic balance!

Weird, I live in Central time zone and have felt, for at least the past year or so, that weekend events line up relatively well for me. I thought we'd been on a North American-centric schedule recently. Is that not the case? (real question, not snark. I assumed that players in Europe and Asia have been getting screwed, but never thought to actually take a look at when events end in other time zones).Helmit said:For the start times I would like to say, while I sympathize with everyone in Europe, I live in Western North America, and what you faced for time difficulties this ONE past event is a constant for me.

(I posted this in another thread, but I figured it would also be appropriate to include it in this thread, as well)
Hi Everyone. Trying to figure out an event schedule that suits as many players as possible is a challenge we've been determined to figure out. We understand that the recent change in event time for The Dragon War was received with less than positive sentiment, so as a result, we will be reverting its event time to its former schedule.
We appreciate all the feedback players have provided, and we'll be sure to include that in our review of event scheduling. Thanks!
PS. Yes, that includes the feedback of upfront charges and increased time after last refresh

I, however, slept through my midnight (on Sunday!) alarm (west coast USA) and missed a while round of charges that I would’ve normally banged out over my morning coffee before work.Helmit said:For the start times I would like to say, while I sympathize with everyone in Europe, I live in Western North America, and what you faced for time difficulties this ONE past event is a constant for me.

The best solution for everyone, as we’ve requested for a very, very long time is to increase the last charge to 12 hours.2
-
I respectfully disagree. The best solution is to give everyone full charges to begin with and let them play at their leisure.bken1234 said:The best solution for everyone, as we’ve requested for a very, very long time is to increase the last charge to 12 hours.6 -
I would only support this if charges fell off at certain intervals if left unplayed. CoalitIon play is a competition — part of the challenge and strategy is logging in regularly and putting up points for your team.Sarahschmara said:

Those who do so should be rewarded with more available matches and the ability to add more points towards their coalition and personal scores.
My team often has players miss charges or bank charges and we don’t mind ranking lower because of it — and when we all show up and clear we get better rewards. It’s part of the game and should stay part of the game. It adds a bit of flair to the many layers of competitive coalitIon play.0 -
Ima let everyone in on a little secret. There is absolutely no way to make everyone happy. We just need to come up with a solution that doesn't slap everybody in the face. I hear people complain about time zones. No matter what, someone is going to have the event end at 1am, someone is going to be commuting to work when it ends , someone is going to be sleeping. I'd be fine with charges up front, but it would be bad for engagement. I know many of us would be fine logging in once per day, but I don't think the game would like that much . Plus ,I know my scores would be worse if we got all charges up front because I would try to blast through them all and hit that point where I make stupid mistakes because I'm stubborn and won't stop.3
-
I agree with bken1234, having plenty of extra time on the last charge would get rid of the time zone problem. Giving charges up front doesn't solve a problem but takes away a part of the game.0

After seeing this particular event I can see how it's _almost_ right, better than most...
This starting time actually suited me for once (the end time was still annoying!)
The start time problem was only the messed up notification, not the time itself. Being 1/4 with 8 hours meant no-one lost anything for 24 hours, that is a totally fine buffer. (Though 1/5 makes it even better.)
The ongoing thing that people always complain about just shifted which people now, and it's ALL solved by having 12 hours after the event is meant to end... So the _old_ end time but with this new start time. No more charges, just extra time for everyone.

What's important is getting a solution to the problem of giving a global audience a limited window of time to play the final round(s) of nodes in events. I think we can all agree that any solution that does that without adding further limitations is absolutely going to be a great improvement over the current situation. "best" is a distraction, especially since we have no visibility on Oktagon's internal constraints.Sarahschmara said:

What is clear is that changing the starting time does not solve the problem.
- giving us a longer final buffer requires oktagon to work a bit, but will make everybody happy
- giving us all charges upfront is not ideal for everybody (even though I don't understand the complaints from the players), but doesn't require any coding from oktagon
Please d3/oktagon give us a better quality of life: happier players is much more important than forced engagement.

Alternatively I don't see why we couldn't keep the same experience by going with two or even three different starting times the user gets to choose when joining the event - though to be frank I would not touch the leaderboards with this approach, yet (could lead to different kinds of abuse)! Rewards are granted at the end after all timezones have finished.
A little birdie tells me this is not a new concept in the Puzzle Quest universe, so why not introduce this in MTGPQ too? This way each player chooses the most suitable approach for them, you don't eliminate incremental charges which seem to have their own fans in the game, but admittedly there is some coding needed here.0
