Well... there is one nerf, hidden in all the buffing of cover prizes.

Granted, this could be explained somewhat by the moving of some HP rewards back to the progression prize tier, but now top 50 is required for a 50 HP personal placement prize and top 10 for 100 HP.

This is really a buff. If you can get to those levels, you can hit 800 which yields 100 HP total where before you got only 50 HP at 900. Furthermore, you keep those rewards even if you drop at the end of the event. Overall the HP output will be much higher for the player base.

Also, for the players who are really HP-strapped, HP collected as progression rewards can be used to buy a shield for the ongoing tournament. It's a significant improvement over having to wait to receive it after the end of the event.

I like the new reward structure, though I expect some people will no longer be happy with their alliance "only" in the 50-100 range.

As for the Spidey covers - much appreciated. Apart for Mororo, Peter is my least covered char. Btw what's his best build post-nerf?

Probably 5/3/5. ATU is just really bad now.
  • While I also like the new reward structure I'm a little worried about everyone saying way to go D3. They are going to read that and say we gave them too much, time to scale back the rewards.

I'm surprised to not see one person say extending 3* covers down to 100 is a cash grab to get people to have to buy more slots for those extra 3* sooner and sooner in their MPQ life. icon_e_wink.gif Love the changes, now I can finally quit my pesky alliance! icon_lol.gif
  • so, i see:
    50 extra hp
    1 extra event token
    1 extra *** cover.

    and i say, thank you.

Black Panther should get a buff for this pvp too...he and Ororo were married for some time...
  • Pvp participation must have been dropping.

Anyone else see their MMR shift? I went from max teams in hood to 20ish in storm and LRs.

I need to know at what point that happened D: After taking top 5 in the last tourney I get maxed Daken and Sentry now. And some lvl 100+ Mororo, too!

I've gotten maxed teams for a while, and only been going for 300-400 points the last few vs. The hood vs was actually the highest I've placed in a while, I only entered it the last hour. I'd been intentionally getting three recruit tokens the few preceeding. I haven't actively tanked and it switched me over to level 20ish teams. Its a bit odd.

I mean, at what progression score did you notice the switch? I am close to 300 pts now, for example.

Edit: nvm, suddenly got 1*s and 2*s after crossing 300.
  • I haven't actually played any new events, I just keep getting offered low level teams to start.

Yeah I figured that if you do that, you get lower teams out of the gate. I haven't been able to do that as I am effing greedy and I have been hunting down all the HP in tourneys that I could. Sitting on some 3,2k HP right now which is like for the first time ever in my F2P career.
I shielded like what, 5 times in the entire Season 2? Once could not bother even - didn't need the tourney prizes.

This one, I am going to 'sit out' i.e. place top 25 or so for that purple cover, and that's it. Huzzah for lower MMR!
  • It's just so sudden I wondered if anyone else had anything odd going on. I figured lazy placements would result in lowered MMR eventually but it wasn't gradual at all. And I didn't get attacked at all in hood and got 70th. Maybe there's a certain number of low scores the matchmaking looks for or something.
  • It seems like you get a lot of cupcake teams in the 300-700 range now. I've even seen 1* rosters at that range instead of the usual maxed teams. There's no shortage of maxed teams at the top, though, and certainly quite a few random maxed team with 200 points are hitting me too.
  • While I also like the new reward structure I'm a little worried about everyone saying way to go D3. They are going to read that and say we gave them too much, time to scale back the rewards.

Well... yes, there is always going to be a dark lining to every silver cloud.

In this scenario, as per usual Demiurge decorum, the changes were presented to increase the competitive nature even further of PvP Versus events.

For all of the personal progression tiers, there is a clear and consistently upward trend at all prize tiers to encourage pushing for "one more prize". For placement prizes, there is a new 4 3*** cover and 5000 ISO prize tier for Top 5. Previous, the big fight was to reach Top 10 for full personal placement 3*** covers. Now, that pressure has been moved up to Top 5, given that Top 25 yields full color covers for a 3*** (with Alliance placement), which would be trivial for any veteran to achieve. The 3 3*** covers at Top 25 does provide a safety net to encourage players to risk placing higher for a "bonus" 3*** cover and extra ISO, which many would surely bite upon.

Now, **IF**, <--- speculation incoming <---- , Demiurge has indeed moved to a format where any new cover is only exhibited in 1 PvP and then 2 Versus events, then Top 5 placement becomes critical, as that is going to be the only way to mostly cover a new character for a F2P player (4 x 3 covers, rotate the 2-cover awarded color in each event = 4/4/4, with the 1 remaining being an 1100 prize). That would be stressful for any serious cover hunter.

For alliances, the breaking up of the 3-50 prize tier into three tiers, is sure to cause friction. With increasing ISO payouts about 50th place, many alliances might start pushing harder again, especially if personal + alliance ISO payouts can now yield 10,000 ISO per Versus event.

So, yes, there is going to be more competition to push harder, as with any Demiurge change to the game. The kicker here, is that this time the devs incentivized the players to push harder and not punish players for their diligence and perseverance in this game. THAT is why we are applauding the change.
  • What is Category-5 anyway? Something like her level of mutation power like the omega level mutant?

It's a rating system for the severity of a hurricane, with 5 being the biggest.

I think the opposite is intended. By moving the HP rewards out of the individual placement to progression this means I'm less likely to be sitting at say #15 and figure I might as well shield because the HP goes down from 100 to 50 if I fall out of top 25, so I get 50 HP subsidized by the game and the extra 25/100 I pay for a 3/8 hour shield helps give me a peace of mind to not worry about somehow falling out of top 50 (which is certainly possible if I don't play at all in the remaining time). Now, assuming HP is still the limiting factor, I won't be inclined to put up a shield because the difference in placements has gone down.

That said I'm sure people will still take the game too seriously anyway and take the cover they don't need for the season points they don't need, just because that's what people have always been doing.
  • Under the old system I'd try to go up to 900 for the HP.
If that netted me a top 10/25 finish and top 250 alliance, then that would net me:

1-3 covers (depending on alliance placement)
    1 token
    200 HP
    some ISO

So now, if I do the same thing, 900 points, top 10/25 top 250 alliance:
2-4 covers (depending on top 5 personal, top 100 alliance)
    2 tokens
    200-250HP (top 10 nets 50 more now)
    Some ISO (possibly less)

Seems like a positive change to me, and given that double covers extend down to 25 now, I wonder if people who might have often tried for top 10 but missed, might go easier and settle for top 25. Leaving only a few crazies to try and grind out that top 5 finish.

The bad news is: We'll have 2 Spiderman tourneys in Season 3.
Not necessarily--two PVP events have given away Spidey covers this year and there hasn't been a single Spidey tourney.
