New Character - Baron Zemo (Helmut Zemo) 5*

If every bad thing to someone is removed, then what results is a repeating of that history because no one remembers it. As @revskip says don't roster them. No one is forcing us to play the game. I do sympathize with people that are affected by different things but we are all individuals affected by a multitude of issues. Catering to everyone's triggers is just not realistic or possible.

Just happened across this thread as I was looking to see which 4* character gave us shards to 5* Zemo. I’m guessing that’s what’s called a “feeder”
With that said, I’m going to give my perspective on characters disliked and give offense.
As a man who’s gay, I’m highly offended that the developers decided to make up a gay character who does drag. That’s a negative stereotype to many of us because most straight people…whether they’re liberals or conservatives…think of that stereotype when it comes to gay men, which is just not true. Instead of thinking of a more positive role model in the game, someone like Cecilia Reyes of the X-Men would have been A LOT better as she was not only a woman and woman of color, but she was a doctor. Yes, I know Northstar is gay and was an athlete in Canadian sports…who also cheated at it…but he was an established Marvel character who was either liked or disliked by many for whatever reason.
What did I do as far as Darkveil goes (a stupid name along with stupid powers. UGGH)? I didn’t complain to the developers, I didn’t post my annoyance at ANOTHER BAD STEREOTYPE, I didn’t stop playing the game, nor did I start a protest campaign to get rid of the character. I just didn’t accept the character into my roster the same as other…religious or not…straight people didn’t accept Darkveil.
I did ask myself what were the developers thinking in creating something so…pandering. People obviously like him and that’s fine. I won’t take that away from them because I’M SO TIRED of that stereotype.
Had that character been an established Marvel character, I’d still be bothered, but I also still wouldn’t use the character. THAT’S MY CHOICE and people need to start thinking in a similar manner. There’s always going to be something offensive to someone, but how one reacts to it says something about that person. If people are going to whine and cry about something they don’t like, how will you evolve
I realize people despise Red Skull and Mandarin for their reasons, but history is history, real or fictional. Should we whitewash everything because we FEEL bothered by something and it makes us uncomfortable? Nothing is learned if we do that.
As far as play goes in MPQ, just don’t use the character. Your offense or mine shouldn’t take away from someone else’s enjoyment in the game.
This is life and how we deal with it says a lot about us and not other people’s actions.

Quite an offensive assumption. Obviously straight people would object to an other-that-straight representation. This old white straight dude will just leave this here; greetings from my roster.

We have a Satan in the game, I don't know how any Christians feel about that but it feels like we are already at a stage where we have hit rock bottom in terms of bad people.
My line in the sand would be leprechauns - I suspect this is why we don't have Banshee and that is fine with me!

Woah… I hope you realize that by making statements about stereotypes, you share your own highly offensive stereotypes?
I strongly disagree with your statements that Drag is a negative stereotype, that drag queens are bad role models, and that most gay people dislike drag queens. Plus the developers did not make Darkveil up. She exists in comics.
And why the hell is having a drag queen in the game pandering? To who??? You argue that any drag queen in the game would be a bad stereotype. Not that THIS particular drag queen is a bad example. Really? Holy sh*t… And you’re gay yourself? Nice way to keep spreading the hate.
Finally, I suggest you do some research into LGBTQ Marvel characters, because Northstar is not the only one in the game.

Simple: I ignore him and gave him "he does not exists in my roster" treatment whenever I have to make a team. I use Mephisto only if he is essential and I am forced to use him. It's not that hard to just straight ignore existence of character who is not mThor level of popularity. I have propably few dozens of such characters on my "ignore them" list.
And all of that becuase I refuse to play devil himself.

I’m going to assume you’re not gay by your statements to me and your stance in strongly disagreeing with me is fine. You’re perfectly free to feel the way you do, but unless you’re gay, you won’t understand my perspective on why I and many other gays feel the same way, nor would you understand that especially given what’s happened in the past few years concerning drag queens and children and what’s been happening in the United States.
You can say I’m “hateful”, but you know nothing about me nor do I care to share with you. However, the point I was making that you and some others didn’t get because you let your emotions take automatic control is that we’re all offended or bothered by something in the world and we react by getting angry and calling people names or making rash assumptions about them.
My original comment was flagged…as I had a feeling it would be…because someone was offended on my personal opinion because I didn’t think like them and assumed it was hateful when it came nowhere near a hateful place to begin with. Does that make me or my opinion any less valid? Should my comment be struck down and I be removed from further comments in these messages boards? We do that and free speech, no matter what we hate, is gone.
Regardless, my example still stands. I chose not add the character to my roster rather than voice why I’m offended (aside from this thread as an example). Everyone else is free to do the exact same thing when it comes to characters added to the game whether it’s the comic version of Sabra, the comic nazi version of the Red Skull, or even the comic version of the Mandarin. As they say is social media, ignore it and keep scrolling and that’s pretty much what I did with Darkveil.

Thanks for the creator education and I’m truly happy for you that you like Darkveil and have them nearly completed.
This young gay man hopes you enjoy playing with him for as long as you’re on here.

I just thought of something - Zemo's dad invented adhesive X right? And Zemo's face got messed up by falling into a hot tub of paste...I think I have worked out who his feeder has gotta be! 😍😍😍😍😍

This is life and how we deal with it says a lot about us and not other people’s actions.
And this is why we need to have these conversations.
You're so upset about perceived offense you ignore your own negative biases.
Darkveil isn't representing you. Darkveil isn't representing gay men. I understand you may have faced certain negatively by others who associate being gay with drag, but this character isn't a gay stereotype. Reducing all things drag to nothing more than a negative gay stereotype is offensive. I hope you can understand that.
You obviously have a negative bias towards drag though. You should address that so it doesn't negatively impact your life.
And so you don't bring the vibe down.
Also... Wiccan and Hulking are in the game. Gay. Men. Dating. And likely manly enough to meet your needs.
I have every character rostered.. I don't leave characters out due to bigotry.
I refuse to play oscoro Spidey though... But only because he's annoying.
Please voice your opinion, but be honest with yourself about what those opinions mean. And understand how is possible that you just insulted an entire group of people. I don't mean that aggressively, but you need to address the negatively your feeling there.

See, and that’s the problem with your post. You make assumptions and claim to speak for a larger group than yourself.
I am, in fact, gay. Please check your assumptions at the door. You don’t speak for me. And you don’t speak for ‘the other gays’ either.
6 -
Trying to add something more constructive:
@The_Boi_of_Steel please compare your post with the one from Mr F about Mephisto. You both have issues with a certain character in the game. But how you communicate this is entirely different.
Mr F is matter of fact and speaks solely from his own experience and how it affects his game. You instead make sweeping generalizations and wrong assumptions and come across as speaking for a larger group than yourself. I am part of that group and strongly disagree with your premise.
However, if you had said ‘I personally don’t like drag queens, and therefore I chose to ignore Darkveil. Other players should make their own similar decisions and it shouldn’t prevent Devs to release characters.’, it would have been an entirely different post.
Truly trying to better explain my point here, and I hope it helps.

I don’t speak for you, nor was I trying to. I speak for myself and the many others in my life, but I am stating what I know from social media of the gays that do feel the way I do about this.

Genuine question: where do I claim to speak for a larger group? It was certainly not my intention. Willing to learn if I’m wrong. But I don’t see it.
At the same time you keep doing it. Social media of ‘the gays’? What does that even mean? My own social media is full of drag queen appreciation. 🤷🏻♂️

Assuming no one will actually acknowledge they went too far in any of their comments, contributing the divergent conversation is pointless.
It's a conversation that needs to be had, but once emotions get high, it becomes volatile.
Perhaps it's timer to move on and get back to the topic of the thread.
Zemo and Moonstone have overlap, but could still be complimentary.
I find it odd there's no feeder here, so I'm forced to choose between spending resources on current options to acquire Zemo, or waiting until I can favorite him to get more efficiency from pulling LLs.

I'm sorry about the Leprechaun hate. 😞
But don't get me started on owls and slugs. 😡😡

Everybody's got a line. There's a continuum between someone completely non-problematic, like, I dunno, Wolverine, and Hitler (Earth-616). The trick is to ignore some loud minority who's super offended at Wolverine (down with Canada!), while respecting what I'd assume is a large majority of players who aren't interested in playing as Hitler.
Personally I don't care much about these characters or their lore, for me they're just a pile of mechanics, so if they decided to start adding famous real-life dictators or serial killers I'd be asking "can I find a fun combo for Stalin" but a lot of others would probably be very offended and that's ok.
