There are a lot more Polaris/MT than I used to see. Essentially, MT now has the "extra turn" with her powers that Sam/Juggs no longer has.

That's interesting, and not quite what I expected to see.

I suppose it makes sense though -- many players are philosophically opposed to using boosted characters, and teams that play the game for you have always been popular.

That team gets significantly worse without Leapfrog though. It remains a pretty fast clock, but Polaris still only has 150k health and now she can't hide.

It actually doesn't get worse. The damage that MT/Polaris can do with cascade after cascade more than mitigates the 150k health. Assuming you are trying to beat them with Sam/Juggs. With a different team, that might be fine. But Sam/Juggs is nowhere near is dominant as it was.

I'm almost always using 650+ boosted characters. My problem before was that my match damage set off Leapfrog, so I often couldn't kill Polaris fast enough to get around their clock. Without Leapfrog I can target Polaris first and waste her pretty much immediately -- she no longer has any defenses at all.

I wonder if people will start using the Deadpool support to buy her more time? If she is the lowest health character on either team (you can guarantee your team only of course) she will get a 60% damage reduction for 3 turns (a CD that has to survive). That might be long enough to get the engine going when she's used on defense.

Alternatively when the required is another mutant they can use Krakoa to get her some more blue (faster stun) or more possibly more annoyingly let the other mutant fire a power against you for free when you down her (in the current PvP I'm sure a 3A5 Mags Red/Blue would hit for a ton).

    KGB

m'Thor will blow up the Dead Pool CD tile though. Is there another defensive support that she could use? I imagine folks are furiously trying to work this out right now, but I can't think of one offhand.

It's always back to Polaris and BRB and Mthor, and Samjuggs.

Unless they nerf them all and then it'll be Chasm and Omega again, I guess.

Nerf them till we are back to sw Colossus. It was the best of times.

So my go to to tackle these 2 are
Mister sinister or Mephisto as Jane's tile destruction kills her rather than hurting your team, also give mister sinister battleworld so he can chip permanent damage.
As for polaris, dark beast, sinister (same strategy), maximus, mantis, or polaris with low level ai and concentrate on downing her first.
Sam and juggs - electro/elektra, ascended quake.
S&j are more frustrating to be honest. I quite enjoy polaris and Jane due to Jane's self damage.

The funny thing is that they removed the two supports that cause cascades so folks just switched to the very OP character that causes cascades and the very OP character that ultra spams SAPs. Hopefully this ups their usage right into a nerf as well.

I don't think those characters need a nerf. They're strong on offense but very weak on defense and everyone knows it.

How can a team like Polaris/BRB be weak on defence when it can spam protect tiles? Not everyone will have Chasm. Polaris/Jane is very much not weak on defence - that team can kill you very easily.

Because protect tiles only win the game if coupled with Beta Ray Bill, and he's only good enough to use if he's boosted. The strategy is in general "pump out massive amounts of strike tiles to amplify the damage you're doing when you pump out the strike tiles," with BRB it turns to, "pump out massive amount of protect tiles so you can stunlock basically their whole team very quickly, then you can either pump out those strike tiles or just hit them with a big hammer and/or orbital bombardment a lot." A second turn stun happens a lot with that team.

BRB is kind of funny, I remember a long time ago, someone said "Stop trying to make Protect tiles happen, they're not going to happen." BRB definitely made them happen.

Grim, bruh, bro, I'm pretty sure the hardest hitting number attack possible is Agatha3 off the back of her protect tiles. Though I will say, she pairs very well with BRB, but he is not her best / only partner.

A few other good options for protects helping you win:
    1. Spidermay5
    2. Magic4 - ascended
    3. Spidergirl3 - April? Quite good ascended to 5
    4. LukeCage3 - ascended. Huge starting protect tile, largest in game?
    5. Multiman4 - ascended
    6. Betsy4 - ascended? But still usable at 4.
    7. Wong5 - I use his every RedChasm fight
    8. Karnak4 - ascended is ok... slightly helpful, needs Agatha though.
    9. SamWilson5 - actually pretty good protects, he just never uses them because Juggs kills too fast
    10. Beast4 - ascended
    11. Blob4 - Kinda?

That's the only obvious one I found. At least the support creates a new CD at the start of the turn so when MThor blows it up you get another one.

Of course it's possible those 4 supports that were removed will come back and still have some defensive value but until then we are only speculating.

It's always been this way, whether it's nerfs or just power creep. If you want the most powerful tech, it's not going to stay the most powerful tech forever. Living out on the bleeding edge is expensive. You got to use Leapfrog to win stuff for however long, some players never got to use it at all.

I could be wrong here, but that 550 train has all but ended with the cover exchange system. I haven't seen new many new 550 past Sam...it is a short sample size.

My issue with their decision is solely on them trying to sell/make counters to the nuisance supports that have now become less useful.

If you are attacking 550's with 450's or even 480's, you SHOULD get beat. You SHOULD need a great deal of luck to beat a team 100 levels stronger than you. Why should players grind and/or spend to get 550's if 450's are just as effective and can reliably beat their 550's?

From my point of view, weaker teams losing to much stronger teams is what should happen most of the time.

That should only be true when played by equally competent players. The AI incompetence is worth probably a 100 levels of difference or so.

Also, if you should really need a great deal of luck to beat a team 100 levels stronger than yours then it should be virtually impossible to queue such a team in the first place and/or we should get like 2-3x or maybe 5x points for winning such a difficult battle. In other words they'd have to dramatically overhaul MMR in what it showed for teams so that you only got teams within a few levels of yours.

It used to be really difficult to queue 550 players unless you had your own 550s. That was one of the reasons I wanted maxed out characters so badly -- there were certain players I really wanted to attack, but could never find.

I don't know if this changed, or why. I'd absolutely support putting it back in place if matchmaking has been changed in that way. 450 players shouldn't have to pay skip tax if they're matched up with me.

Alternately leave them in queues to encourage people to level their roster. Plenty of times I hit a wall before getting to 550s. The solution was always pushing levels up and eventually things improved.

PvP is a revelation without Leapfrog. I can't believe how much it was propping up weak unboosted 550s.

I just did my 60 wins to 1200 in less than an hour. I was on 3* Hulk (lvl626) +650 3* Magik, with +12 purple AP and the Gamma support on Hulk.

Any dangerous unboosted enemy character was dead turn0, 95% of the time. Polaris, Sam, Namor...I could take out May + another character. Folks kept trying to beat me and nobody could -- Polaris, Sam/Juggernaut, Namor/m'baku -- all kinds of stuff.

Everybody better get those free AP supports leveled up, and get to work ascending. Unboosted characters are speed bumps in this new metagame.

Try to think outside of your own roster, some are ahead of you and some are behind. I believe everyone is trying to ascend their characters and get those AP supports, but it takes a long time. In this past PVP I've been playing the unboosted team of Omega & May with Red Supports, and they swiftly killed most teams I saw, which were either unboosted top characters or boosted mediocre ones. Basically, the top characters let you punch upwards beyond your level. Which is probably a good thing for players that don't have everyone ascended or max champed.

Respectfully, there are a handful of other players ahead of me (110 550s, average 5* level at 505, all 4* ascended besides Enigma), and for the most part I can name them all. None of them are on the forum regularly.

I was offering some advice to competitive, high level players. Removing Leapfrog from the metagame is a massive, massive change, and the high level game is completely different now. (I was farming 550 Juggernaut/Sam teams for 5 points, and they couldn't beat the retals).

Folks should really take a look at their roster strategies, or they may get left behind.

The following supports have been disabled in all PVP events and will be reintroduced in the future once we've had a chance to rebalance them.

    1. Leapfrog (Amphibious Transport)
    2. FantastiCar (Four Seater)
    3. Eros's Arrow (Lovestruck)
    4. Thanos-Copter (Villainous Vehicle)

Additionally, PVP Lightning Rounds should have ALL SUPPORTS disabled. The recent enabling of supports in Unity was unintended and we do not have future plans to enable them in Lighting Rounds in the future.

    Quick update:
For the events that are already made like Elsa's Ray Gun Madness, the supports are still in there, but all PVP events in the near future should have them disabled. I believe Quicksilver & Spider Rex will have them enabled since I see their event info in my tracker.

This is why players are leaving this game. We invest not only A LOT of time, but money as well. Leapfrog was a big help for me against those who got their brand new characters leveled at 550. Now you guys are taking that away. You’re making it too easy for me to quit altogether. Thanks a lot.

I could be wrong here, but that 550 train has all but ended with the cover exchange system. I haven't seen new many new 550 past Sam...it is a short sample size.

My issue with their decision is solely on them trying to sell/make counters to the nuisance supports that have now become less useful.

I don’t know if it ended or not, but those 550 characters still exist and having supports like leapfrog still work in our favor against them, which is what I’m talking about and hoping the developers will understand from what I said in my comment.

We all have different issues, I suppose.

Some of us don’t exactly have a choice, BUT to fight opponents that are 100 levels higher. Without support, I'm still able to beat them at times, but the supports are great at evening the odds.

Should this game niw only be for the enjoyment of people who get their characters to 550? How is this fair to newer players of the game who are just getting into the game?

The developers and owners of this game need to fix this problem they created. They can’t just make money with longtime players who have monopolized the game to their advantage. Otherwise, they’ll lose newer players to help sustain a current monetary flow.

If you are spending you'll soon be in the 550 club. If not you can still get wins, still plenty of infinite teams available that can punch up. And eventually if you keep grinding even as a free to play player you can eventually get to the 550 club as well.

The people at the top should have an advantage over the people still climbing the mountain. Spending time and/or money should give you an advantage. Staying at the tippity top should require spending. That spending is good, keeps the lights on. With BCS already having made some bad financial decisions in recent memory and pissing off some of the bigger spenders that edge will close as new folks spend.

I liked Leapfrog and don't think it was nearly as disruptive as others do, it stretched out matches and you had to be aware of how to play against it instead of just mindlessly matching. Same for Eros, good on defense but didn't really bring anything else to the table.

The two offensive supports I think were a little more problematic since they helped exacerbate some of the meta teams already potent acceleration. Sam/Juggs, mThor/Polaris, Shang/America don't need much help to get going fast.

Are we talking about true 550's or boosted characters?
