If it was so obvious, why did it happen for multiple seasons before they decided to change? I'm thinking they knew what they were doing and decided to pull the rug out after we got used to it.

What's the endgame there? You're saying they deliberately set this up and then removed it, solely to antagonize players? Why? What on earth do they gain from doing that?

I don't know what the right marketing term is but it's a sales tactic many app makers and tech companies use. Draw in large number of new users with either free apps or low prices and slowly over time increase price or reduce access to service.

Like how Netflix and Disney+ is increasing their subscription every year and blaming it on rising costs, but it was part of the plan anyway after beating out their competitors with initial low sign-up prices.

I'm pretty sure there are many other examples out there and is not exactly a new thing. Just that not every consumer is aware of it and they just boil it down to enshitification or shrinkflation.

That's what this entire game is and has always been -- they let you download and play it for free, in hopes that they can trick you into spending money on some stuff. That's nothing new, it's exactly what we all signed up for!

How does this specific change make them more money? They're not taking something that was free and charging for it, they're just taking away something that was free.

I wouldn't call 1500 hp exactly 'free'. They wanted to replace the vault with premium pass all along and only brought it back because of huge feedback. So this was a half-hearted attempt to appease us.

It seems like the are trying to make money by selling tokens for a vault that you could easily clear previously with daily play.

The change from season vault to season pass is a way to make more money. That wasn't what the other posters were taking about.

How many of the $100 Nightcrawler/Blackbird bundles do you think they sold? I would not describe that sort of offer as "trying."

Last reply because I know how this goes...

There are two tokens in Juggernaut bundle and I thought there was at least one other bundle besides the $100 one.

Yeah, they'll probably make millions of additional dollars from this change. I wonder if I still have time to buy that Nightcrawler/Blackbird bundle?

And we now have an All-New Cover Exchange System! that both costs HP to use and would immediately allow a player to exchange covers gained for a pulled 3a4.

There is also the other side of the coin. The season vaults roughly coincided with the ascended character feature being added to the game. If you remember when that feature rolled out there were lots of opportunities to nab 1-3, 2-3, 2-4, 3-4 etc ascended characters in other one time vaults around that time. So perhaps those first few seasonal vaults (plus the other one time vaults around ascension release) were just part of a goodwill giveaway to the players to get them excited about ascension and help jump start their progress (you may also recall not everyone was thrilled about the feature initially).

Or as the poster above says, maybe in conjunction with cover swaps they figured out it let players speed up the process of getting 3s to 5s by too much.

When the monthly Q&A returns (assuming it does) you can ask about it and see if it gets answered.

What would that cost to swap out.
It's 113 covers so would they charge you for each or is it a one time fee. . it's a one time fee then that be insane

They don't allow you to break down characters into covers for other characters as part of cover swaps.

What he meant was that once you pull an ascended 3-4 you can now apply every newly pulled 3 star to that ascended 3-4 via the cover swap mechanism maxing that character out at 370 far faster than was possible before.

3 tokens were given for free when logging in today and they added 3 to the weekly quests.

I just opened 4 and can re-confirm, there are still way too many items in that watered down vault.

  • Codex

So assuming going forward the weekly will have tokens, that brings the count to 14-18 tokens for completing all the quests. So roughly a 15% chance to get one of the ascended 3*. Better but not great odds.

Yea with all my whining, out of the 6 pulls I've done so far, I have 3Elektra4, 5Colossus, 2LTs, 100hp, and 2cp. I'm sure all my next pulls will be iso but still, a nice haul.
