Mobile games are optional activities that you do to have fun (at least for now, maybe someday they'll be required by some dystopian regime!). If you're not having fun playing a phone game, you should quit. There are a million of these games, and a million other ways to spend your time.

There's a reason it's called the sunk cost fallacy and not the sunk cost axiom.

I have to admit, this is not really to DAZ’s standards. I promise you though, his other posts are well worth a read the majority of the time. He frequently makes me chuckle out loud. Well, if you like his style of humor of course… (see: paste pot Pete thread)

Not the finest effort from @DAZ0273. I did think @Tac's comeback was a good one though.

Whilst I do love a good "quality of humour" debate, let's get back on topic and please respect everyone's opinions on the subject.

I think we can take a harder stance on this. Starting an argument just because you don't like how they express themselves will just discourage others from airing their grievances, and that's not good for the game.

Let's be real, there have been a lot of decisions the devs have made that people are not happy about. We should give the devs a chance to hear all forms of feedback. It is not for us to gatekeep and invalidate other players' experience and expectations.

Over on Discord a player who hoarded season pass xp got to level 59 on the pass already. And there seems to be a 5 level pattern above 450:

    1. 500iso / 1000iso
    2. 3*cover / 1cp
    3. 500iso / 500 riso
    4. 500riso / 1000 iso
    5. elite token / season vault token

    (Right side is premium)

This seems to repeat as you go.

Last season I got to 74 and I think I did every quest. Unknown how far you can get this season but I guess I’ll find out.

Do with this what you will.

It’s true they’re all just digital goods and getting too invested in how much or little you get at any time is probably best avoided but many of us get upset sometimes anyway. Being passionate about the game is what keeps a lot of people here and the servers on.

How can the Devs gain feedback when context is missing from that feedback? With all due respect not every comment is equal. My feedback initially to Tac was very poor, no question about it but then so was their "p*ssing on the player base" comment.

I will gladly go to Forum jail for my lazy jibe if it means posters actually express constructive viewpoints that are helpful to the Devs in guiding what is wanted from the game.

There is a difference between passion and unhelpful abuse. We all have different expectations and it isn't either my intention or within my ability to stop others expressing their opinions on the state of the game. My response to Tac was a mistake on my part but that doesn't mean I don't think they could have worded their frustrations better.

That's fair enough. I'm not sure I saw it as "starting an argument" more a dismissive reaction to a post that wasn't agreed with. I could have just deleted those posts but actually the conversation has expanded by calling it out and Daz has gone on to clarify the reasons for their dismissiveness (if that's a word) and asked some interesting questions.

I will say that players experience and expectations will vary. There is a sometimes-blurry line between disagreeing with someone and invalidating them. Is suggesting that someone is overreacting to a change "invalidating"? Or is it just a different perspective on the same issue? My role is to interpret that and keep a conversation going that respects others. I may not always get that balance right but it is subjective and I am always open to feedback.

It's also worth remembering that deleting posts and using warnings can also put people off posting too, especially where they feel it is unjustified, which also reduces feedback and other opinions. As I said, it's a balance.

I don’t disagree that threatening to quit is rarely useful and basically is often just an empty threat. However if is also one of the ways to express your frustration that might seem like it might get attention vs “I don’t like this”.

Anyway being constructive in feedback is usually best.

As far as the pass the number of free tokens so far that seem available feel completely inadequate and somewhat unfair in comparison to the prior “clear everything” era even if you’re getting the pass stuff on top of it. There was probably a much better design that could have fit into whatever economy constraints exist or maybe they could have been more generous or whatever but many players dislike this deeply.

Fewer items with less total value would have felt fairer as right now it feels more like a money grab than anything.

The MPQ forum "I quit, here's why" post (and its even-less-interesting cousin, the "I will quit unless you give me X right now" post) is a grand tradition dating back a decade plus. For awhile there was a rule against them, and I believe they instantly got moved to "off topic" to die.

Players who make those posts almost never actually quit, or if they do, they come back. The act of making such a post indicates that you still really, really care about whatever it is that's upset you.

The thing that causes players to actually quit is not anger, it's boredom.

Indeed, I've seen it on forums for other games I've played, but we also see it on social media and everywhere else. Remember that crusty old dude who actually took his music off Spotify because he was upset about something, only to quietly return to the platform after he presumably cooled off?

I get the frustration people have when things don't go the way they would prefer, especially if they feel that they have no alternative but to take the nuclear option because no one appears to be listening to them. There's not much that we can do but to let them howl, stomp around a bit, and wait for them to accept that their protestations (however loud and obnoxious, or even well-intentioned) may not influence the kind of change they desire.

Personally, I try not to hold it against them. If you want to step off, no one is stopping you. If you choose to stay, or come back after some time away, I'm not going to throw it back in your face or anything. Everyone is allowed to change their mind, even if they were a bit dramatic about it in the first place. I have taken time away from other games for whatever reason, and it is usually because I was not having fun at the time (or other priorities got in the way). No grand declaration needed.

Anyway, it is just a game. I can't imagine that anybody would need to clear that vault in order to continue playing. Yes, it is quite satisfying to get every prize, but missing out on those 5-star covers or yet another ascended character is not going to send me packing. While I also agree that cramming 120 items in there does make it seem like they don't want us to succeed, I can simply turn my attention elsewhere and still enjoy the game.

As a primarily free player, I don't have anything that I can threaten to withhold that would make a difference, so I mostly tend to go with the flow. I don't think these so-called embargos I keep reading about will make a difference either, because there are probably still plenty of folks willing to fork over their money to keep the machine running without you. So maybe none if it matters, and all the noise is just a distraction. You do you...

I just think they should have left the seasonal vault system the way it was. No need to fix something that wasn't broken. There are many other parts of the game they could have focused on instead.

This. There was no need to mess with the way that it was. The devs seem to overthink everything and don't leave well enough alone things that are working well.

To the devs it was broken. The value from the first vaults was far too great. After the shenanigans from this past year I am of the belief, they do not do any testing until stuff is released to the public. Until they were able to analyze those vaults in the players hands, they did not know the impact they would have to the game economy and impacts to furthering/limit sales in the stores.

It was a no-brainer to anyone looking at those vaults to see how much value there was in there.

If we can't have those original vaults then I would like to see the original vaults contents cut by 80% and still give out 6 tokens in the seasons pass. I think that would be a fair compromise.

I think the problem is that the one shiny thing (two things really) were a pair of ascended 3-4s. In terms of value they were WAY out of line with everything else in the vault since an ascended 3-4 is 113 3 star covers + 126K ISO (cost to level + champ).

Just one of them is VASTLY more valuable than the rest of the 78 item vault combined much less having 2 of them in there. It was so lopsided that rest of the vault was essentially meaningless.

We as players may not like it, but it makes total sense why they aren't handing out 2 of these every month.

If it was so obvious, why did it happen for multiple seasons before they decided to change? I'm thinking they knew what they were doing and decided to pull the rug out after we got used to it.
