What is Cover Exchange?

The Cover Exchange system is a brand new system for players to swap their excess covers to acquire covers of their choice! Exchange covers that are pending in your in-game inbox to acquire the covers you need to strengthen your heroes and build up your roster!

How Does Cover Exchange Work?

When a player obtains a Max Leveled Champion or Ascended character of any rarity, they will unlock the ability to Exchange excess covers of that character in their inbox for other covers of their choice within that character’s natural rarity. There are some exceptions like Limited & Latest Legends characters in the current rotation which we’ve detailed at the end of this blog.

Max Champed Cover Exchanges

For example, if a player has a Max Champed 3-Star Squirrel Girl (Unbeatable), any additional 3-Star Squirrel Girl covers in their inbox will appear with an orange “Exchange” button in the bottom right corner.

After selecting this “Exchange” button, players will access the new Exchange Menu. In this menu, players can choose the exact number of Squirrel Girl covers they want to exchange and what covers (and color) they would like to swap to. In this case, we’re swapping to purple covers for 3-Star Agatha Harkness (Governess).

Each cover swap has a flat per-cover Hero Point (HP) cost that scales with the cover’s rarity. 1-Stars will have the lowest per-cover Exchange cost, while 5-Stars will have the highest. If a cover has a 200 HP Exchange cost, exchanging 2 covers will cost 400 HP, exchanging 3 will cost 600 HP, and so on.

After selecting a new cover to Exchange to and spending the required amount of HP, the covers will be Exchanged and the new covers will appear in the in-game inbox!

(Note: New covers may appear scattered across the inbox after an Exchange is complete. Please review the whole inbox to see all of your new covers.)

Ascended Character Cover Exchanges

Any Ascended character, no matter their rarity, can also have their covers Exchanged. Any additional covers acquired for a character that is already Ascended can be used to level up that character or be Exchanged for other covers within that character’s natural rarity.

For example, if a player has 2-Star-3 Ascended Ares (Dark Avengers) and obtains additional Ares covers in their inbox, they will have two options for these covers:

  1. Use these covers to Train and level up their 2-Star-3 Ascended Ares
  2. Exchange these Ares covers for other 2-Star character covers via the Cover Exchange system (such as purple covers for 2-Star Daken (Dark Avengers))

The choice is yours!

Swapping Between Cover Colors

The Cover Exchange system also allows for swapping from one cover color to another on the same character. Using the same Ascended 2-Star-3 Ares scenario from above as an example, players can swap his Green covers for Yellow or Red covers instead. The per-cover Exchange cost applies to these Exchanges as well.

TL;DR

The Cover Exchange system is straightforward: After getting extra covers for a Max Level Champion or Ascended character in your inbox, choose the number of extra covers you would like to Exchange from your inbox, choose the character covers you’d like to Exchange for, and spend the requisite amount of HP to complete the Exchange. Finally, enjoy your new covers and level up your roster!

FAQs

1. WHAT’S THE PER-COVER EXCHANGE COST FOR EACH RARITY?
1-Star Exchange - 75 HP (per cover)
2-Star Exchange - 100 HP (per cover)
3-Star Exchange - 200 HP (per cover)
4-Star Exchange - 500 HP (per cover)
5-Star Exchange - 1250 HP (per cover)

2. ARE THERE ANY CHARACTERS/COVERS THAT I CAN’T SWAP TO?
The Cover Exchange system will have a short list of covers that will be restricted from the Exchange. These include 2 categories:
LIMITED CHARACTER COVERS

  • Bag-Man
  • Spider-Ham
  • Taskmaster
  • Devil Dino
  • Howard the Duck

CURRENT LATEST LEGENDS CHARACTERS COVERS

  • Any characters currently in Latest Legends will be restricted from the Cover Exchange system. Once a character rotates out of Latest Legends, they will be unrestricted and join the roster of covers that players can swap to!

3. CAN I BREAK DOWN/PULL COVERS OUT OF A CHARACTER AND EXCHANGE THEM?
No, the Cover Exchange system only applies to covers for already Max Champed or Ascended characters that are pending in a player’s in-game inbox.

4. DOES THE COVER EXPIRATION TIMER RESET AFTER AN EXCHANGE?
Yes, if a cover from the inbox is Exchanged, the newly Exchanged cover will have its expiration timer reset to the maximum of 14 days.

5. CAN WE COMBINE ASCENDED CHARACTERS WITH THIS SYSTEM?
No, but combining Ascended characters is something we may do in the future.

6. WHEN WILL THE COVER EXCHANGE FEATURE BE AVAILABLE?
Cover Exchanges will be released as part of our R317 patch the week of December 16th.

7. WILL THIS MEAN WE CAN'T DO COVER SWAPS THROUGH CS ANYMORE?
Correct. All swaps are available in-game, so Customer Support will not be handling that aspect.

8. WHY ARE THE COSTS SO HIGH FOR 5-STARS?
Costs are predicated on the rewards from Champion Levels, with a little loss built into the cost compared to naturally gaining that cover. As this system will essentially let you get a Champion level for any other character at any time if you can swap, that needed to be taken into account in the costs.

9. DOES THIS MEAN THAT WE'RE PAYING 16,250 HP FOR A FULL COVERED 5 EVERY TIME THEY COME OUT OF LATEST LEGENDS TO FULL COVER THEM? THAT'S AN INSANE AMOUNT.
Yes and no. Sure, if you don't have the character rostered at all, and are doing full swaps over to this character from scratch, yes. But players do not generally start from complete scratch on a character that's been available through Events, Offers, and Latest Legends. A couple covers short of a full build at that point, sure. But unless you were literally away from the game for a couple months, you have usually picked up at least a couple covers of a character before they hit Classic Legends (and would be available for this service). As well, this isn't replacing cover earning at all, it's providing an additional method of acquiring covers you haven't managed to pick up. So to say that you now need to pay a bunch to full cover a character is incorrect.

10. DOES THIS REPLACE THE SAVED COVER SYSTEM? WHY WOULD I WANT TO SAVE COVERS OVER USING ONE COVER HERE?
It does not replace the Saved Cover system. That system allows you to save copies of a single character and recycle them into a different ability at the cost of several covers of that character. Or it allows for "storage" of covers so that they immediately become Champ rewards when the character is Champed. It's a similar, but different system with a different use case.

Does this replace the cover swap through CS when you hit 550 for LLs?

So no more LL cover swaps of pulling for 550?

Who asked for this? Did I miss the post where players were clamoring for this option? Was it in a Q&a?

Couple of answers from things we're immediately seeing:

If so that’s the real reason for the gap in releases and the end of me playing this game.

Yeah it seems sketchy for sure. Which means if this is the case they may not honor the previous system. That also means you have to pull this weekend…and doing so assumes they will honor the process. I posted a dumb picture on another thread expressing concern…now it seems potentially valid.

So what if we pull now before the 16th? Will that be honored and swapped through CS as has been done previously?

    @S0kun

So wait, atm CS exchanges 5* for free, for a new Release that can be up to 80 covers to get them to 550 on day one, which would mean that now the same thing would cost me 100k hp? You guys know the backlash for this will be worse than shardsgate?
Also, how does that work with shards?

Lmao. Struggling to any see the benefit for me in this system. I am not paying any amount of hp to swap covers.

This only benefits bucket's philosophy of pulling from classics.

    What about swaps of shards?

I was about to get my first 550s I have been playing for almost five years. Have spent plenty of money and time. No complaints spending as I believe in supporting people who give me something I enjoy. This though…is making me take pause.

You can't exchange anyone in latest so even if you are willing to pay the exchange rate, you have to wait until they get in classics.

Kind of what I was thinking. So it would be best to wait until right before character’s change out to do a pull so you can do any swaps you would want potentially?

How will shards be handled? If I have a character at max level and gain shards for them will I be able to exchange them as well for the fee?

My first impression here is thinking that this system effectively eliminates the RNG of cover pulls . . . for a price. The price is high enough that I won't do it for every pull. But it at least gives me the option to do so in specific circumstances.

Devs: you really need to rethink this. You’re underestimating how much of a negative this will be for a large portion of the spending player base. Mark my words-revenue will drop precipitously, player engagement as well. Don’t do this.

I understand if you want to ease the burden on CS.

I understand if you want to open up cover exchanges to more players and toons of different levels.

But this is not the way to do it. This game is supported by obsessive completionists (like me) who are not going to pay 1250 HP per Wasp cover, despite wanting her at 550 even though she’s horrible. That’s demoralizing.

This will make it harder to 550 new toons.
This will make it more expensive to 550 every toon.

There are better ways to do this that would enhance the game.

Disagree. Big spenders will go back to what they did before. Spending will be an even bigger advantage than it's been (and I bet I know players who will spend the $500 to 550 a 5* from scratch), although it still won't be as big an advantage as it should be. This will result in more revenue (and probably a LOT more revenue).

This affects the free to play/low spending 550 crowd the most, and, well...the game really doesn't need them at all.
