Hey there folks! Got a lot of answers here for you. We had a lot of questions this go around and we tried to answer as many questions as possible with the work holiday in mind as well. Enjoy!

Question: Would it be possible to just batch update all the old 5* to have modern health and match damage? There are so many 5* that need fixing, it takes a long time to redo their power sets, and match damage/health updates get them halfway there.

Answer: Unfortunately, no. It's all tied together with abilities as well. Which, yes. We could just update numbers and have those abillities auto-modify. But then you have many characters that are going to be underpowered because their numbers don't update (Stun/CD/Airborne turns for example). Good news there though is that there are plans to do just that for most characters, just not quite yet.

Question: Since SCL11 is not possible in PvE, are/will you look into adjusting the current ones? I cannot imagine 1-5 having many players. Since 9 is closer to 8 instead of 10 in design and rewards, could you consider making 9 the new 10, and bumping up 10?

Answer: No plans at the moment, but we are looking at early game mechanics as a whole for some future updates. Which kind of then automatically rolls uphill to make sure that those tiers of gameplay are balanced. So yes, but no timeline. As for overall SCL split (for PVE), 9 and 10 are about equal in participants, with declining amounts of users in each SCL going down to about 4% of users in SCL 1. So there's actually a relatively even spread.

Question: What do you think about making "Airborne" status a more strategic gameplay? For example, characters who can fly will have "airborne" affiliation. Their ability damage deals bonus damage to those without and are sent airborne.

Answer: This is a terrific idea and one that I know the character team is playing around with at the moment. We just might see something like this land in the future!

Question: Given how arcane this game’s underlying tech is, would it be easier to port it to Unity or some other commercially supported tech stack?

Answer: We're actually working on a number of engine updates in this vein. That takes time though, so in the mean time, there's still the need to work with the tech stack we have, and all that entails.

Question: Is there any capacity to update the android app to allow for "resizing" so its compatible with foldable devices?

Answer: This is something we're taking into account with some of the major engine reworks that are set to arrive next year.

Question: I joined the “class of” event late , as in i missed out 2014 to 2015 PVE objectives. Will there be anyway to bring those events back or it’s just a one time thing?

Answer: Yes! There will be a way to get the progress from a missed Class Of. Stay tuned. :)

Question: Considering there are no reported plans to make a 6* tier and the 4* tier is very bloated, have you given any thoughts about having a 4.5* tier? It could be made up of some of the existing 4* by bumping up their stats and also some new releases.

Answer: Sort of, but from another direction (that isn't 6-Stars). More info Soon(tm).

Question: What is the process like working with Marvel in order to request/develop/approve a custom character like Peggy, Carpool, OMDaken, etc?

Answer: The process is tons of fun. Marvel is super collaborative and encourages us to meaningful contribute to the Multiverse. As for the process, it really starts with an internal idea that gets enough traction. Once we feel we're really onto something, we start to flesh out that character with a premise, story, loose set of abilities, and sometimes early artwork. We share this with Marvel and get feedback on how we can make the character more awesome (or if we're off the mark, we're provided with some directions in which to steer). It takes time, but the payoff is huge!

Question: Any plan to add a feature that would allow player to generate a list of priority action for their defensive tram in PvP ? Example: firing power order for a character.

Answer: Sort of, but not exactly. On the back burner are some plans to improve the overall AI so that it's smarter about firing abilities in the first place. That design is a bit out and not quite finalized, but could include something like this. IceIX: I'd be perfectly happy if there was a Final Fantasy XII Gambit System style AI setting for the game. Gimme flexibility!

Question: On July 10th you stated that the Chasm nerf is set to go live in the next 8 weeks or so." It has now been 5 weeks and 3 days and we are still waiting. Is this still on track to go live in the next few weeks?

Answer: Yep.

Question: What happened with July's rebalances? the shortage has been a bummer.

Answer: July's rebalance was a bit of a numbers shift for Elsa Bloodstone, not a full on rework.

Question: Abyss tiles. Will they be utilized by another character, or is the intent to keep them exclusively Chasm?

Answer: At the moment there aren't any plans for Abyss tiles to see play elsewhere, but never say never! If the right character comes along, they just might lean in on that game mechanic!

Question: When you make more than five matches in a single move, you will hear an orchestral chime. What does that mean? Is it supposed to be bonus AP for all colors, damage/defense boost, bonus award when winning a match? Or is it just a leftover.

Answer: Mostly a holdover from the original Puzzle Quest. In that game, cascades of a certain number (5? I'd have to look it up) would cause a Heroic Effort, which gave bonus XP. Waaaaay back in the mists of pre-pro, Heroic Efforts in MPQ would give XP for the character that started the cascade. But that was also when XP was actually a thing, with collectible XP comics and such, which later became Iso-8 for leveling. The Heroic Effort chime just sort of stayed in.

Question: Super easy question, why has communication ceased?

Answer: We don't believe communication has ceased. These monthly DEV QAs alone are proof of that. We can say for certain that if key team members haven't been as active lately it's due to some BIG projects that are scheduled to go live very soon. We love this community. Unfortunately, there are only so many hours in the day to address everything going on in the game.

Question: Will there be any consideration on slowing down character releases and either focusing on character reworks or new events? Also can we get better communication on buffs or nerfs to characters? Some have just gone live with no forum post.

Answer: Unlikely, but not impossible. Character release cadence is pretty well baked into the release schedule (and monetization) for the game. The few times this has been disrupted (either with more or less releases) it sent ripple effects throughout the game for weeks/months. We could spend design time on how to smooth these ripples, but that takes time away from new features and also the very reworks you're asking for.

Question: Are other statistics, such as how often an active power is fired, used when rebalancing a character?

Answer: Yep. The character is analyzed for overall usage rates, individual ability use rates, and overall kit. It also helps that literally every designer and engineer on the game are players of the game on Live too, so with the analytics and an understanding of how the character actually plays, we usually have an exact idea of why a character is underperforming. That being said, it's not always a case of making all abilities evenly fired. For example, Silver Surfer's Silver Singularity not only costs more than his other abilities, it's also used in completely different situations than his Cosmic Beam, and we shouldn't just expect it to be fired half as much as an ability that costs half.

Question: With the new boss event mode being based on standings, would it be possible to add more rewards to the boss node? With round 8 giving 8 rewards, but you have to clear him for a couple of resets, its too grindy and not rewarding.

Answer: Our first iteration of Placement Rewards for Heroic Boss Events didn't go out as well as expected for a few reasons, one of which was the required grinding every 8 hours (which interrupted sleep for some people!) as well as exclusive rewards making Alliances feel that they HAD to place to keep up with the neighbors. We still do think that Placement rewards for some of these events could be cool enticements for players/Alliances that WANT to push, but shouldn't be rewards making all Alliances HAVE to push. It's a balance we're directly working on, which you'll see a second iteration of with High Evolutionary's event.

Question: Which 5* has lost the most matches and by how much more has Thor lost. Buff Thor ;)

Answer: Kitty. Kitty Pryde is by FAR in the most 5-Star teams that lose matches. She's in a large number of them overall, but in pure W/L stats, she's at the top.

Question: The new Boosted Odds of 5* in the Classic Legends packs is a Great idea, but rotating them once per season would take OVER 2 Years to cycle through just the current 5* characters. Can we talk about rotating them with Deadpool weeks?

Answer: It's more likely that we'd offer some sort of Affiliation based stores that would bridge this gap instead of swapping out these odds every week. Doing so would necessarily require de-curating (is that a word?) the packs, which we think offers a unique feeling to Classics that other packs don't offer.

Question: New competitive boss event forces to hit all refreshing nodes. I'm european so I'd have to wake up at monday 2 A.M.for thelast one. Isn't there a better system? Or some people just aren't allowed to rest?

Answer: Definitely missed the mark with that, and we're making some updates with the next trial. Heard that loud and clear.

Question: There are many supports that give flat bonus damage to abilities. While useful for smaller rosters, these 3-4 digit increases are neglible at SCL10. Would you be open to change this a percentage based increase so it will be relevant to all tiers?

Answer: Certainly. Right now we still have a raft of characters to update (and re-update), but it's possible we'll start to sprinkle in some Supports updates as well. Some of the changes would include these sorts of issues.

Question: Attack tiles, goon special tiles, Chasm special tiles destruction/creation, delay after characters or goons using abilities, victory/defeat banners, boost banners, are all of these slow by design, and why? Can all of these be made much faster?

Answer: Yes, but not easily. A lot of this is baked into the way the game calls and uses these effects that have to be wholesale changed. It's one of the many things that an engine update would solve since we'd by design have these able to be apportioned out and changed individually.

Question: As a steam player it was a little disappointing to find we were excluded from the recent hellfire gala promotion. Is this something you’re looking to rectify in future and is the steam version in your long-term plans?

Answer: This is unfortunately a byproduct of our current tools for QR codes & reward links. Steam is very important to us and is certainly part of our long-term plans to streamline the MPQ experience. Moving forward, if you're a Steam player and you come across another activation like this please put in a CS request during the event's active period.

Question: Is it possible to have a "sandbox" vs mode in our alliance where we can play against people in our alliance just for fun/bragging rights?

Answer: Harder than you'd think with the current tools (there's nothing that would allow us to lock a Versus Event specifically to only your Alliancemates), but it's a request we get a lot. We're considering ways to have some sort of playground, just need to figure out the best way to implement.

Question: As you are working on new mmr system in pvp, can you please look into making it easier and quicker to come across historically favorite targets? This could really help team mates out who like to work together.

Answer: Which would also, incidentally, make it easier for players that want to target specific people for.... less nice reasons, to be able to do so. Unlikely to be a feature as a result.

Question: 3* health was uniform (Colossus, Rags, Sentry have identical health pools). New releases (since Emma) have massively higher health pools relative to a fixed 3* tier. What is the driving factor for new 3* characters to have such high health pools?

Answer: Health pools are taken from a set of base values, then scaled up to a given rarity. In design, characters are given base health values based on that incarnation of the character, which is also influenced by other similar characters. So it's mostly a result of other, newer characters having shifted those values over time than anything else. For example, it's unlikely that anyone but say, Aunt May would have Storm or Black Widow level base health at this point.

Question: Are there any plans to update Shield resupply including frequency of various drops like the 4* or 5? Would be good if the random days could be a "pick 3" option, or if 3 covers were added for their corresponding day of release.

Answer: It's in the cards, but on the back burner at the moment.

Question: What character in-battle "animation" are you most proud of, and which was the most difficult to develop.

Answer: Hard to say, each have their own challenges, but Doops was the trickiest to develop, hard to create move sets for characters that can really (if allowed) break the known universe. We wanted to get his portal effects just right, incorporate Doop speak, and pull assets and weaponry from other heroes for his little pocket dimension ability. Similar case to Deadpool, the more comical the character, the more work needs to be done to find that niche spot of humorous/novel along with  powerfully adept.

Question: Would like to see a different system for support progression such as shards or a certain number of duplicates will increase the star level. Such as 4 duplicates of level 1 makes a level 2 then 8 duplicates takes it to level 3 but a 1* = 1 and 2* = 2

Answer: Funny you should bring that up. Stay tuned...

Question: AI match is getting a little crazy lately. insane cascades, powers fired over and over. article Enemy Cascade Limiting (6/12/18) what broke? why is this not the case anymore?

Answer: Nothing changed. Even checked metrics on seeing this question. Matches, cascades, etc. are all the same. We did have a bug for a little where Team Ups weren't getting used up on firing, but that's about it.

Question: Are odds boosted for new supports in support stores? It further dilutes the stores for newer players still trying to get R3-R4 versions of older supports. Any consideration for separating new supports into separate LL-style store?

Answer: No, but yes, we are looking into Supports and their distribution to players, not only for new Supports, but also older ones. Got some things in the works there.

Question: Since my SCL is at 10, I can't go below SCL7 in PVP. Can this be done for PVE as well? This is so it prevent some of us from accidently joining scl 1 or 2 etc.

Answer: We'll look into it. IIRC, it's baked into how these events are actually created, so would take more tools changes than you'd think, but it's also possible an engineer could have a sudden insight to be able to flip a switch for it.

Question: With characters being added frequently to the game (please don't stop), do you have any plans to remove characters from the game at some point? Some that maybe fell by the wayside or maybe for another reason?

Answer: We currently do not have any plans to remove characters. As the game evolves, the meta is constantly shifting. So some characters who the player base thought might not have had much value could turn to gold overnight!

Question: Are there any plans to implement a FIXED costume store, like Classic Legends or Latest legends? Or shards for costumes of our choosing? Something to choose the costumes we want...

Answer: Not at current, but definitely something that we're thinking about. There's been a certain amount of work on some sort of Costume Store AND implementation of Costume Shards, but both have been back burnered for now in favor of other features. Certainly possible in the future!

Question: Have the Marvel bosses ever denied you adding certain characters? Do you have a list of characters that, due to greater forces, you CANNOT put in the game?

Answer: Yes, there are some characters we don't have access to for any number of reasons. Marvel has an extremely long history of hundreds if not thousands of characters, and certain copyrights have swapped hands so many times. We of course cannot share who can or cannot be possible in the game. But if your favorite hero isn't in the game yet and they're fairly popular, just remember there might be a reason. IceIX: In theory, we could put those characters in by hunting down rights holders and negotiating, but it'd have to be a pretty pivotal character to put in the hours/contract work involved.

Question: On the cover of Alligator Loki there is an art of Kid Loki as a character in the game, are we ever going to have him as a playable character or did they just do it for the sake of it?

Answer: Possible! There's actually a full character sheet for Kid Loki, made in pre-production for the game. He was since cut as a playable character. No reason that he couldn't be brought back though, same way that King Thor, Stealth Armor Iron Man, or Green Suit Quicksilver were brought back as costumes after being cut during pre-pro.

Question: And what about a mechanism for us to earn shards from the characters that we use whenever we win a mission? Like an RPG: beat an enemy and level up your hero, in this case, earn a number of shards for the characters we use in the mission.

Answer: We've talked about it as something like a Daily Play, and its possible that we'd do something like that in the future. One of the real issues there is screen friction. Players have to be informed that they got those Shards, and that means (at current) the Daily Play Rewards screen pop-up. Which, when you're swapping out characters, means more screens every battle. Could and would get intrusive pretty quickly. Needs more noodling on what we can do with current systems.

Question: What are the chances of adding one more space for a costume in the month being on the same day as the addition of the 4* character, be it the costume for himself or for another character? Or maybe on another date, but we need more customes...

Answer: We'd love to add more costumes. Just a matter of finding artist time to create them. So, yes, noted. :)

Question: Can the facebook prompt please go away until you've fixed whatever is wrong with PQ connecting to Facebook? Of all the things we have to click through, it's one that is a constant reminder of an error, not a reward.

Answer: We'll look into this.

Question: As a fan of the big A, I am happy to see the Horsemen make their way into MPQ. Any chance we will be seeing War and Famine in the near future?

Answer: Quite possible! Technically, you have Famine! The Age of Apocalypse costume for Cyclops (Uncanny) fulfills that, he was Minister of Famine under Weapon X. But that's a bit of a reach.

Question: Can you please resume giving Supports a power at tier 2 and 4? Even "increase black match damage" would be nice.

Answer: Not planned in the very near future since we already have the next few designed and ready for test, but it's certainly possible for some future Supports, sure.

Question: Can we get updates to progression and/or placement rewards for classic 5* characters? the boost to the CL vault is nice but with the ever growing roster and the slow rotation of 5's it seems to take forever to evn get +1 cover for classics.

Answer: Recent changes to Favorite Heroes made a big impact for Classic 5s in giving more and larger possibilities of bonus shards on every pull that could contain a 5-star. We've got some other ideas for other improvements, but that's one right there that you can use to push in on Classic 5 improvements.

Answer: There are about 30 folks under the Broken Circle banner that are giving MPQ everything they've got!

Question: Has any work been done to either increase the amount of boosts you buy at a time or put them on an auto refill system?

Answer: Has work been "done"? Not yet. But it's on the list of things to do in the nearer term.

Question: Will aspect rotation ever be enable? Specifically, will the app window ever rotate so the charging dongle can point up instead of down. I.e. when I hold the tablet on my lap, can I have the charge port on top to avoid putting bend pressure on the usb cables

Answer: This realistically comes down to the whole engine update thing. It's surprisingly difficult for something as simple as a rotate or flip with the current system.

Question: I’m enjoying the Class of PvP events for the limited roster and progression only rewards. I was wondering if you might consider continuing them past Class of 2023. One possibility is reviving an old event called Evergreen PvP where you could only use characters with green powers. I always was wanting one of those for each color.

Answer: Certainly. The ""Off PVPs"" as we call them internally (Anything from locked like Evergreen to specifically boosted like Black Vortex) are something that we'd like to bring back in and schedule more often.... along with making new types.

Question: My question this month is of there are any plans to update or rebalance feeders? There are still a good number of 4s in particular that have no and feed no characters yet. Would you consider making all 4s double feeders as well, akin to last year's 2
and 3* balances?

Answer: This is a direct result of there being more 4s than 3s or 5s. Even double feeding every 3 there will still be some left out. Without doing triple or even quadruple 3-Star feeders, this isn't really directly solveable with the current roster. As more 3s get released though, it comes closer to being in parity since each 3 can feed 2 4s, while only 1 4 releases in the same cycle.

Question: My question is : will the roster's selection screen be improved, by adding some filters like tags (as there is more and more in the game), to allow us to filter on the teams (X-Men,...) or others (Gamma Mutates, etc.) ?

Answer: Yep, in the works! Don't have a direct timeline, but we definitely want to have better filters for the Roster and Select screens.

Question: Has the team ever discussed adding a new time slot to make it a total of 6 basically a new one starting ever 4 hours? It's a little selfish on my part but all times (EST) 7am I'm driving to work 12pm yea I'm at lunch but I don't have 2 hours to spare when that day's particular event is about to end and the next one starts. 5pm (I'm driving home) 11pm and 2am I'm in bed.

Answer: Nothing planned at the moment, but not out of the realm of possibility.

    So it's working as designed? 3* are now designed to have more health than 4* and 5* at the same level. I can't wait till the next time Balance of Power is run and we get 3* with 250K health pools.

    Yeah that's answering the wording of the question while avoiding the actual question: WHY did those numbers change for the new 3s?
    And will there be a rebalancing of the old 3s?
    Ahd why is there no need to up the numbers on 4s, as well?

    I think they just didn't understand the question.

    Sifting through it seems that the team-up multi firing was a bug and has been fixed which is good. I haven't noticed it recently. It would have been nice for this to have been addressed communication wise earlier but the fix is the main thing, thank you Devs.

    That one surprised me almost as much as the high Kitty loss answer. They chose not to answer my question about their lack of communication, but I did my best to give concrete examples of where it had dropped off. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Yours was much better worded so feel bad they chose mine over yours , it's probably the last time I ask question it's too easy to gloss over the question being asked.

    Surprised that Kitty loses so much as I'm using her a lot for the small nodes.
    Would be interesting to more about that.
    I can imagine that her numbers on attacking in PVPs are better than having her in defence

    Kitty doesn't surprise me. Once there's no special tiles, there's nothing for her to do. Especially if you transition to SCL10 in PvE, you'll get the harsh reality that she can get her butt wiped

    My question was ignored completely. I was curious if there were plans to buff 5* Daredevil or if I’d have to wait for Born Again on Disney+. Ah well. Wasn’t a huge deal.

    Kitty makes total sense if you see that he said it was total wins / losses and not percentage.

    Right away that means an older character over a newer one.     Surely the pve nodes don't factor in this. At least they should not.

    In light of yesterday's truly buck wild announcement from Unity to start charging developers PER USER INSTALL monthly in addition to the annual subscription for developer licenses, consider my question retracted lol. Such a short sighted decision that seems like shooting themselves in the foot deliberately I assumed they'd been bought by Elon or something.

    Yup. No change to Kitty is required, she's good on the attack against much stronger teams and pretty hopeless defending so she'll feature a lot, win a lot, and get beaten a lot.

    I think Kitty + Rocket was a very powerful team to try and punch up against for a segment of us who were 4* players or single 5 at time of release, so I would imagine her "favorite" metrics are probably about as high as her lose metrics since she got passed by pretty thoroughly and it's hard to pivot a 5* roster around a meta that changes suddenly for most.

    Kitty was the reason I used Bishop as a 4* player in SHIELD Sim, there were no other 5* dominating like she was at that time AGAINST 4* PLAYERS.

    The thing with thor though is that they asked which 5 star has lost the most matches, not been KO'ed individually the most. Even if your half health thor gets knocked out in a fight, chances are he's already fueled the character that your using him as a battery for enough to still win the match.
