Character Creation Challenge: Black Tom Cassidy

"April showers bring May flowers" as the saying goes is supposed to make you think about the arrival of fragrant, beautiful flowers. For many, it just reminds them of allergies as pollen ruins their day. Much like how Black Tom Cassidy ruined the day for the X-Men on occasion. BTC has been re-worked a few times throughout the years, so there are quite a few examples to go off of. Pick your favorite one and go for it.

Everyone is encouraged to participate. Just follow 3 rules:

1. Stick to the character in the title. You may choose any depiction of that character whether it is a younger, older, alternate version, etc. 

2. Provide the character's rarity, name of each power, color, cost, and description. If you're feeling a bit more expressive, also provide the power differentiation at each level. Include as much or little detail as you desire, but providing more detail paints a better picture. I like to include all of the bells and whistles, but as long as the information is there and understandable, it is fine. As an example, I will begin the challenge with my own design.

3. You may utilize someone else's ideas, but give them credit. There are few unique ideas in the world so the chances that at least 2 people will think of having X character do a "thing" is high. Post your ideas freely. However, if you were inspired by something in another post, include it, but give credit to the inspiration for your idea.

      Lay Of The Land 0  AP
    (PASSIVE) Fusing with Krakoa has expanded Cassidy's consciousness across the land. When an enemy power creates or destroys 1 or more Strike, Attack, or Protect tiles, create a 2-turn Countdown tile that does one of the following when it expires:
    -creates a strength 32 Protect tile, or
    -increases a friendly Strike, Attack, or Protect tile by 58.
    (At level 70)
    • Level 2: Strength 36 Protect tile or increase by 60.
    • Level 3: Strength 42 Protect tile or increase by 69.
    • Level 4: Strength 50 Protect tile or increase by 81.
    • Level 5: Strength 64 Protect tile or increase by 102.

      Branch Out 8  AP
    Cassidy extends his reach across the land to protect his allies and counter invaders. Remove up to 2 enemy Strike or Attack tiles and create a friendly strength 15 Protect tile for each one removed.
    (PASSIVE) Each time an enemy deals non-match damage to a mutant ally, convert 1 tile in the enemy team's strongest color to Yellow.
    (At level 70)
    • Level 2: Remove up to 3
    • Level 3: Remove up to 4
    • Level 4: Remove up to 4... strength 18 Protect tiles
    • Level 5: Remove up to 6... strength 21 Protect tiles

      Mutant Nation 0  AP
    (PASSIVE) With his checkered past, Cassidy jumps at the chance to be a key member in mutant society. Friendly mutant fired powers deal 27 more damage for each friendly Protect tile (max 567).
    (At level 70)
    • Level 2: 32 more damage (max 672)
    • Level 3: 42 more damage (max 882)
    • Level 4: 57 more damage (max 1197)
    • Level 5: 77 more damage (max 1617)

    Developer's Notes:
    • Lay Of The Land is triggered when an enemy power is directly responsible for the creation/destruction of Strike, Attack, or Protect tiles. It is not triggered if Countdown or Repeater tiles create or destroy them. It is not triggered when tiles are converted from one to the other. It is not triggered when tiles are specifically removed rather than destroyed.
    • Branch Out (PASSIVE) converts a tile for each mutant ally on his team that is dealt enemy damage by any means other than match damage.

    Hmm, this is actually quite interesting. He has an interesting theme around Protect tiles that I think will benefit someone like 4* Juggernaut so probably having him as a tank, Polaris or Magik to generate special tiles and him would make a good team. He is also able to counter enemy tile generators with his yellow and his black power also empowers allies nicely. 

    All in all, he makes a great support especially. Given the right teammates, he could be a nice powerhouse. Great work!

      Shillelagh Blast 7  AP

    Black Tom Cassidy’s shillelagh is more than just a close-up weapon. Places a 3-turn Countdown tile on the board. While this tile is on the board, Black Tom Cassidy is sent to the back of the team and cannot deal match damage. If the tile is matched or destroyed, Black Tom Cassidy deals 900 damage to the target. If the tile goes off, Black Tom Cassidy deals 1800 damage to the enemy team. 

    (PASSIVE) While Black Tom’s Countdown tiles are on the board, Green matches do not generate AP. Black Tom’s Countdown tiles store 1 charge when a Green match is made, increasing damage dealt by 20% per charge, to the max of 5 charges.
    (At level 70)
    • Level 2: Deals 1500 damage or 2200 damage.
    • Level 3: (PASSIVE) Charge increases damage by 40%.
    • Level 4: Places a 2-turn Countdown tile that deals 2000 damage or 2700 damage. 
    • Level 5: (PASSIVE) Charge increases damage by 60%.

      White Bishop AP
    (PASSIVE) With his powers of environmental symbiosis, Black Tom’s Cassidy position as White Bishop isn’t just for show. If one does not exist at the start of a turn, creates a 3-turn Countdown in any colour that destroys 1 Green tile every turn, dealing damage and generating AP. While this tile is on the board, enemies cannot fire powers in that colour. 
    (At level 70)
    • Level 2: Creates a 4-turn Countdown tile.
    • Level 3: Countdown tile deals 500 damage to the enemy team if destroyed or matched.
    • Level 4: RCountdown tile deals 1000 damage to the enemy team if destroyed or matched and destroys two Green tiles every turn.
    • Level 5: Countdown tile deals 2000 damage to the enemy team if destroyed or matched.
      Knock on Wood 8  AP
    Black Tom Cassidy channels his powers through a wooden medium, using the enemy’s powers against them. Converts up to five random enemy Attack or Strike tiles into Green 3-turn Countdown tiles that deal 500 damage each when they go off. 
    (At level 70)
    • Level 2: Converts tiles into 2-turn Countdown tiles.
    • Level 3: Tiles deal 750 damage each when they go off.
    • Level 4: Tiles deal 1000 damage each.
    • Level 5: Tiles deal 250 damage each to the enemy each round.

    @Kelvinkhr Oh, this one is quite interesting. His yellow has that quirky twist of being sent back and being unable to deal match damage. His yellow passive can make him quite powerful. Due to the wording, I assume countdown tiles from his black and blue powers also store charges. If that is the case, the limitation on him dealing match damage makes sense.

    His black is wonderfully done. The disruption in firing powers is a nice touch. Though limited against some enemies, his blue is also useful. If charges build on all of his countdowns, then having the countdowns from his blue power drop from 3-turn to 2-turn hurts him a little. 

    This is a really creative build. It forced me to look outside of the box when it comes to the mechanics of the game. Good work.
