I've decided I'm done with the game and saying goodbye and leaving my thoughts on why I'm leaving.
Issues leading to me leaving:
I know I'm gonna get hate for posting one of these *shurg*, to those of you enjoying the game in it's current state this isn't an attack on you. Just leaving some nuggets on the problems that lead me to the door, just in case the devs read it and/or care.
Good luck everyone, it was fun for a while!
Issues leading to me leaving:
- Despite it being a constantly complaint all the years I've played the insufferable grind and pure amount of time to spend each day is way too high.
- Another frequent complaint that's never been addressed. Time slices and inequity they apply to 100% of all placement. Why bother having placement in such a lopsided unfair scheme?
- The non-existent end game and how boring the game gets after fully entering 5* territory.
- The lack of roadmap communication and often communication in general about anything in the game.
- The seemingly odd design choices that have only been getting worse recently (and lack of any communication on why they made these, maybe there is a compelling argument on their side, but we'll never know!)
- Supports: Who are they for? What is their purpose? Why are they so poorly designed (and have gotten worse rather than better since release)?
- The lack of innovation in the game design that get's boring/repetitive quickly. The prizes vs the game play is what keeps people playing, sot that once those dry up in 5* land you start wondering why you play.

Well hopefully you find something more enjoyable to you to fill your time.
Can you at least pop in on support announcements periodically so we know your still alive and well?3 -
My gripes mirror those pretty closely0

I hope to see you if/when you come back @broll0

Hi @broll It's always a sad day when a veteran player like yourself decides to step away from even just the forum, let alone the game in its entirety, so it's very unfortunate to hear that you'll be leaving.
I want to thank you though for providing such insightful feedback prior to your departure. It will help us tremendously in isolating the key issues that veteran players feel are the most negatively impacting their experience, so we can work on improving those aspects of the game.
I do hope that one day you'll return, however even if not, I wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors and thank you for being a part of our community through both the highs and the lows.32 -
But Broll next month they are scrapping supports and 6* thanos and 7* Hela are released!
Understand your reasons even if I don’t agree with them all0 -
@broll as a long time cruiser and recent poster to these boards, I can say your input will be greatly missed. Hopefully we find some reason to pull you back in eventually.1

This game has been stagnating for years. They have a hot property and they've been letting it wither away. The game needs new modes of play where you can use your whole roster, not just the top 5 over and over again. It makes me sad seeing what the game has become compared to what it could've been.

Agree on almost all counts.
Demi/d3 seems pretty well sett in their ways now, so there is little hope for major revisions or big fixes to long-standing problens. And the elder game is glacially slow unless you play or spend very heavily. It's just too hard to make 5* roster progress while playing at anything less than hardcore or spending at less than "second mortgage" levels. And adding new 4*s underneath your 5* bench is rarely very compelling. Maybe extremely good new 4*s like bishop offer some interesting possibilities, but that's about it.In any event, best wishes broll!1 -

In all serious I do hope this feedback gets back. I used to think it never made it back but based on a few of the better recent changes (especially saved covers), I do think it gets back but it may take years to be implemented. You've got a tough job being the in between man @brigby, and I don't envy you for it. Thanks.Tony_Foot said:But Broll next month they are scrapping supports and 6* thanos and 7* Hela are released!

One can only hope. @crackninja who's taken up the mantel of commander in my stead, said something similar speculating 6*s on the 6th anniversary. See image above.

For me the main problem aside from the ones mentioned is that placement almost entirely depends on when you enter a bracket. It doesn't matter how fast your clears are if you're entry #9985
-
6* for 6! 6* for 6!
That will give you enough of a rest to come back full force3 -
I can't argue about your reasons for leaving, mostly because you're entitled to your opinion for disliking the game. Plus, I'll be joining you soon enough in the retirement home after I finish my restart experiment. I think this is a good thread to mention things that would push us to quit as opposed to things that need to be better, but aren't deal breakers.
So here's my list of issues and gripes:
Real Issues
---The time commitment to make steady 5* progress
---The lack of communication for why things do or do not happen
---The lack of innovation in events
---The long periods between good 5*s
---The difficulty in obtaining 4*/5* supports (still)
---Scheduling my life around PVE end times
---The growing 4* and 5* dilution
Personal Gripes
---Scrolling through a hundred characters to pick my team
---Needing an " open all" button for single tokens
---The growing number of characters that manipulate the strongest color
---The overly expensive costumes
---Not locking out 5* champs from SCL 7
---The high HP cost of stores and vaults

I don't begrudge anyone that follows my philosophy and gets out when it's not fun.
I will say that the time commitment has been addressed a bit over the years, but certainly not recently. Those 2+hr refresh times... no thank you.
But the addition of Support Circuit also being placement dependent and overlapping existing placement dependent events... it's just not implemented well and it certainly didn't seem that anything changed from run 1 to the current run.
I'm still playing and having fun in my Day 1600s, with a special appreciation for Combined Arms.
I do hope the feedback provided is carefully considered and that veteran player retention is being valued at least as highly as new player acquisition.
Good luck, Broll!2 -
Sad to see a voice of reason on the forums go. But, I know you've posted on some of these issues for literally years, and when little to nothing gets done, options are limited.
Best of luck to you. I wish you all the best. Have fun out there, and if you find anything cool out on your journeys, pop back and share.3 -
Take care Broll, I hope that one day they will release a Support named after you!13

Man, I used your sig to keep track of how many 4*s there were and when I needed to update mine. I'm going to have to try harder now to remember to update it.
All the best though. Really nice post from @Brigby too. Thats excellent community management.1 -

Good luck everyone, it was fun for a while!
1. The grind seems to be a floor at this point. Players, of course, always have choices as to how much they want to play and when for what rewards. Progression is an option exercised by many who skip whole days of PVE every event without missing it.
2. The devs have approached the slice issue from a sideways perspective here and there, but it seems like the basic answer is "no matter what we do, it will have advantages for some and drawbacks for others". I agree that it creates barriers for some players and must result in groups of people never becoming fully engaged with the game. But that is a design choice they seem to have decided works for the game as it is.
3. Can't speak a ton to the endgame....the devs understandably spend most of their time making the things we spend money on (new characters, and now Supports and Costumes) and the endgame as it exists is basically finding new ways to use 5's together or chase the newest ones. That interests people or not.
4. Communication has been an eternal struggle (although in the early days there were actual developer videos on a frequent basis). The best communication about character design lately came via an outside source who gathered information from the development team. It would be great to get more.
5. Supports aren't that bad - they can definitely enhance play, although there comes a point where you experience diminishing returns if you manage to get some of the better ones. They do remain frustratingly hard to "chase" and I wish there were some shard system or something that would allow you to use some dupes to work towards higher ranks.
6. The game design and innovation is constrained to a large degree by the underlying code and infrastructure. There are probably ideas that can't be fully implemented due to the age of the game. Supports, for example, don't do anything new in particular, but add effects to your game which other tools already do (like a % chance at an AP boost).
The fact is that this game (no matter what the devs want you to believe) has survived for 5 1/2 years, which is longer than many successful mobile games by a year or two. It is completely understandable and expected that players are getting worn out and bored by the same repeated formula (and PVEs and PVPs) after all this time. This exact same game with everything the same except no Marvel characters would have been done years ago, most likely.
The Cosmic Chaos to me is the an excellent example of the place we are in. It implemented many design elements to address longtime player complaints (trivials are a waste of time, loaners are painful to play and shouldn't need to be repeated, too many waves just slow down play with banners and such) and had excellent art and actually attempted to put together thematic teams for you to face against. But at the end of the day, by the 3rd or 4th run it will become old hat and it still has all the basic underlying elements of all PVEs. I'm glad to see the devs trying to continue to polish things, but wonder if its really going to be enough at this point.6
