Rewards should just be booster tokens and/or rare tokens. We already have way too many currencies floating around, why not add more? Don't want people to get too many boosters of the newer sets? Adjust the cost like they already have in crystal costs. Even crazier idea, scrap the booster rewards altogether and change them to crystals. (I'd still like my rare tokens to redeem for rares of whatever set I want instead of the 100 orbs I get now from the set I complete a year ago.)

Being totally fair, they were also told at one point that "We want card rewards to match the block of the event" at one point, too.

There's lots of voices here and some contradictory ideas floating around.

It doesn't matter much to me that the event repeated basically "as-is".

A big positive to me is that more than just the same few events are being rotated through at all.  This appearance of HOR breaks a long string of same-events monotony.
I think one reason why we start feeling like the same events are being cycled over and over is that Oktagon has only been creating one coalition event per set. We had RtO for XLN, BoFT for RIX, AWR for DOM and TDW for M19. However, under Hibernum we would typically have a PvP coalition event and a PvE coalition event created for each set. And on top of that there would be the planeswalker-specific PvP coalition event (thought it's really just a modification of the regular one).

Oktagon has instead chosen to make each event they design have more unique effects, which no doubt required a lot of effort for designing and adjusting. They also created non-coalition PvE content like Across Ixalan and the four A Journey Through History events, which also have unique effects and objectively speaking are more novel designs than anything Hibernum has produced.

Unfortunately it seems apparent that this approach wasn't particularly well-received by the player base. And as it seems that coalition events are the core focus of a very vocal part of the community, perhaps the developers could take note of how to prioritise their efforts in designing events. I'd guess more coalition events created for each set and updating of older events to match their new Legacy status (whether it is in format or rewards) would be a good step.

On a side note, hardly surprising that some people don't take too well to being on the receiving end of the usual bad treatment they do unto others. But anyway that's a dead end topic. The arguments have been done to death on this forum multiple times and looking back it was very much a waste of time.

There needs to be a reflection between the level of effort involved in an event and the rewards associated with it.  Will some players still run every match of a low-reward event?  Sure.  But it's still harmful to the game: it increases the burnout factor a lot when you feel you're not getting good value for your invested time.

The current devs inherited a lot of stuff that they've yet to tinker with.  This would be a good opportunity for an overhaul.  Go event by event, determine the number of matches expected to be played, and adjust the reward structure accordingly.  I've suggested before that we move to "pick whatever boosters you want", but even if they're not willing to go that far... it should take just a handful of config changes across their events to make this happen.  Very low effort.

The first part. The rewards have to balanced with the amount of effort put in. Agreed, "OMG" status agree. I didnt want to play the event but honestly i kind of had to; but i make this very clear had it been a noncoalition event and only my decision mattered i would have only played it to progression. Why? Because the amount of time invested for the progression rewards are worth it.

EDIT: also the second part. They just need to balance a few things here and there around and recycle the old events appropriately.

@Kinesia my only counter to your post is this:

If this event was solely run to appease the people asking for more events, why is it a coalition event?

I agree with pretty much everything else you said, but this bugs me.  Making an event coalition makes it effectively mandatory for everyone to participate, including those who do not get really bored at work.  If it was a non-coalitoin standard event I doubt the backlash would be as great (since if you really hate the rewards you really don't have to play at all)
Now this is an interesting point to bring up. In FTA, we have ambition polls so people are free to “opt out” of competitive play for any reason, whether they are just very busy OR they dislike this particular event matters not to us at all from a cold, number-crunching perspective.

All of “our” players knew what they were signing up for when they told us their intentions for the event.
In extinction we do the same.  I am not saying that it is impossible to get out of playing if you don't have the time mid-week to play, but I find it odd that it is necessary if the goal was to give people more content to do if they want to.   A lot of players are really attached to their all time scores, and I would hate to see them lose them because of this.  I want more events during the week, but not everyone else does.  I get that.  So the simple solution is to make them non-coalition to reduce the pressure.  I just don't get why they didn't.
This is also an interesting point to bring up. We’re not attached to all-time scores since we’re mostly filthy casuals who just happen to be highly skilled. We’re used to starting over from zero and we thing the only important score is this current event’s.

Of course, we know that we’re weird about this stuff. We specifically designed our group to eliminate the stres (and burnout) of forced play. So, while I absolutely understand not wanting to let one’s team down, I do not understand why people can’t just not play if they’re not interested in the event.
Its not as clear cut black and white as you may think.

Sure if i dont want to play then not playing is the right move but it is not always possible. It depends on a number of different factors.

Lets talk about my case. I was not aware that the rewards were this bad until like 3+ hours after it started because that's when i happened to take a look before joining and i was in a rush to finish my daily grind of AI/TG/TotPs. Well our team already made moves... and i cant back out now. I had the time to play but i had NO idea that the rewards were this bad - i just didnt see it coming. So part 1, I was blindsided.

Then even if i knew beforehand i knew the next event would be HoD Bolas which i know has high rewards (and who doesn't want some cha-ching for some new elite pack bling bling). So if i were to switch out of HoR, I would miss out on HoD Bolas rewards (due to coalition move system), which is lame because i would definitely play that one to full. If i know i am going to play that one to the fullest it would make sense to get the better rewards associated with the coalition as well for my efforts. So this part 2 is coalition dependent.

Then aside from rewards, I am a team player. I cant simply drop the ball and be like "hey yo, i be too good for these lame rewards. I am out. Progression only, baby!" I cant let the team down and i have to set an example as well. One person starts not playing well then all the others either follow suite and the entire team needs to be replaced or they will want to replace you. I mean i am sure you have been in that situation where you bust your... stuff and its kinda upsetting to know half of your team doesn't play (talking about when 1st starting the game and joined a random coalition). Part 3 is etiquette, consideration, sacrifice, whatever you want to label it

And i am sure there are numerous other situations like what if they simply dont have anyone to replace you with that event? What if no one is awake because of evebt start times? What if everyone already joined the event and thus cant move? What if your coalition-coalition move system isnt the same? What if your coalition doesn't even have a backup coalition or roster? So on and so forth.

So once again not everything is black and white. I play competitive. I want to crack a new elite pack masterpiece and brew up some nonsense. I expect the everyone to play fully but if i back out what does that make me? A hypocrite. No thanks. I cant expect things from others only when its convenient to me.

    And honestly i missed HoR.

    I liked it because:
    1. 4 nodes
    2. Take less than x damage objective
    3. And its been a really really long time since i played this
    4. Smaller brackets
    5. Worthwhile progression rewards

Sidenote: I am one of the few that likes the take less than damage ovjective because as random as it may be... it prevents the leaderboard from being flooded with perfect scores a bit.

    I didnt like it because
    1. Effort vs reward imbalance
    2. No real uniformity in any event as to their reward packs. Some get standard boosters others get legacy.
    3. 3 days long.
    4. Weekday event
    5. This applies to all events but events start at like 2 or 5 in the morning for me... just give me my node charges upfront so i dont have to be anxious and unable to go do real life things because that 3, 5, 8 whatever hours of time left before i lose a charge or event ends just worries me

Bringing back old events is cool. I like it. Why? because i havent seen it in forever - it feels fresh. Instead of running the same events week after week, mix it up a bit. This is totally fine. I mean ive seen HoD bolas a lot lately but pretty sure there were other HoD "planeswalker" style events. Rotate them. Eating steak everyday gets old but if you use the rest of the cow you butchered for roasts and such; it won't be as boring.

If your bring back old events update the rewards a bit like the booster packs everyone is talking about. If its a standard event give standard rewards. Legacy can give legacy.
**but so you know there are people that want legacy rewards but that isn't going to do jack when the best rewards are attached to standard events. In other words, standard cards are needed for standard format competitive events that happen to always have better rewards in most cases. I would hate to be a new player getting legacy cards when i need standard cards to compete in standard events. This is especially true when they can't event piece a decent standard deck together with their card pool. A friend of mine just started playing and man i saw his cards.... man i wanted to cry.

And if people want more things. Fine give it to them! But dont make it coalition and force others that dont agree with you (not pointing fingers or trying to be rude... just yelling at D3Go). I dont like it when religious people want to force their views on me so why should i force mine on others? Lets be considerate. If its non coalition run it fir 5 days for all i care and make it super grindy whatever. But if its coalition can it be just like 2 days worth? Like the 5 node RTO thay was reduced in length.

And speaking of shorter events. Make events only have like 6 refreshes and run a bit more in a week (DONT make them all coalition and dont go overboard). This way each individual event doesn't feel long and grindy but you have more choices so it feels refreshingly new. ROTATE!

I mean TDW was pretty unique and i give you credit for that but what are you guys doing? You have so many passionate players with great ideas and you have a wealth of old stuff you can recycle if you use your head.

God why are my posts always soooooooo long. Its such a waste of my time. I need to stay away from these topics.

Thanks for putting it in perspective for me @jimpark

I hadn’t thought of it like that and you’ve given me something to consider. I think I have been taking my group’s efficiency for granted!
