2.7.1 Release Notes

General Changes

  • Dominaria card set will be available in Booster Crafting
  • Adding a confirmation prompt to Booster Crafting
  • Special event supports (that are indestructible) will no longer be valid targets for support destruction
  • Support destruction will only target treasures if there are no more valid targets. *New Update*

Elite Pack Duplicates

Elite Packs are one of the most sought after booster packs in the game, and rightfully so! They can contain very powerful cards, and as such, require significant time and effort to save up the Mana Jewels to acquire one. This is especially true for Mythic+ Elite Packs, which is why it can be understandably frustrating when opening one reveals...a duplicate.

We think opening a Mythic+ Elite Pack should be a momentous and exciting occasion, which is why starting in 2.7.1, all Mythic+ Elite Packs will always guarantee a non-duplicate card!

Event Updates

We’ve heard a lot of good feedback about the latest Dominaria events, and that it brings new variety and flavor to the game. Having said that though, even the most interesting events can eventually become stale and repetitive. To combat this, we’re going to try out a few things that should freshen up newer events and help rejuvenate some of the older ones.

A Journey Through History
We will be updating some of the objectives and rewards for all four of the A Journey Through History events.
(Changes are marked in green font)

Total points required to reach maximum progression rewards has been reduced from 65 down to 40 for each Color Mastery. (10/15/20/25/30/35/40) In addition, an extra 350 Mana Runes have been added to each Color Mastery’s total progression rewards.

Return of the God-Pharaoh
This event will also be receiving some updated objectives and rewards.

We will also be adding more Mana Runes to individual progression rewards:
  • Bronze - 700 more Mana Runes
  • Silver - 1,500 more Mana Runes
  • Gold - 1,750 more Mana Runes
  • Platinum - 2,000 more Mana Runes

Trial of the Planes

We will be replacing Hour of Devastation packs in Trial of the Planes rewards with Dominaria packs.

What’s Next?

We know many players are looking forward to the Core Set 2019, and our team is excited to be working on it. Unfortunately it won’t be coming in 2.7.1, but you can expect to see the Core Set 2019 arriving in Magic: Puzzle Quest in the following 2.8 update!

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with the app blocking, when cycling Vizier of Tumbling Sands, while one of the player's Creatures is Disabled in Battle.
  • Fixed an issue with the app soft locking when casting a duplicate of an Aftermath Spell using Naru Meha, Master Wizard's ability in Battle; it now proceeds through the battle.
  • Fixed an issue with the app soft-locking when gaining life while Serene Steward and Hallar, the Firefletcher was on the board in Battle.
  • Fixed an issue with an infinite loop occurring, when the opponent casts Siren's Ruse targeting Naru Meha, Master Wizard in Battle.
  • Fixed an issue where a black rectangle was displayed instead of the Planeswalker art in the A Journey Through History; now Planeswalker art is displayed.
  • Fixed an issue where the event art was missing when viewing multiple A Journey Through History events in Events.
  • Fixed an issue with an error prompt displaying, when entering an encounter with a pre-constructed deck with a red dot in Story; it now proceed to the battle.
  • Fixed an issue on Android with the app returning to the Activity Hub Screen, instead of the previous screen, when tapping the device's Back button in the Planeswalker Information Screen.
  • Fixed an issue on Android with the app remaining on the current screen, instead of returning to the previous screen, when tapping the device's back button in the Booster Crafting Screen.
  • Fixed an issue on Android with the app remaining on the current screen, instead of returning to the previous screen, when tapping the device's back button in the Booster Crafting Info Window.
  • Fixed some Text Issues.

Great change. Now I need 20k jewels to pull all the missing MP.

I'm super happy about the Mythic+ Elite Packs also! I'm also happy about the Journey Through History changes, mostly because they're finally introducing actually different objectives! The way they're being applied to RotGP looks a bit odd to me, I'll withhold judgement until we get a chance to actually try it though.

Thank you for the Elite Pack fix, that's wonderful.

The new requirement ideas are unexpected and look really interesting! Just adding a whole heap of new options is great, but some of these are very different from anything else and will be great to see in practise! It opens up a lot of possibilities for the future, both in new events and also reviving some of the old. It's wonderful to see, thank you! (I love the things that show Oktagon is thinking long term.)

Win with cards that cost 12 or less.

Win with only common and uncommon cards.

    Interesting.

I'm pessimistic about the elite pack change.  Might as well make masterpieces craft-able at that point if you're going to just hand them out to the top players like that.

    I like the objective experimentation.
Comments like this don’t sit well with me. Have you ever played magic the gathering? Do you not like being able to control what you spend your money on? Do you even spend money on this game?

magic is about buying the cards you need to play the game your way. As it stands, never having the chance to loot a specific card from mtgpq is the number one downside IMO.

Yeah but you don't have to spend money on this game and specific cards are available for sale. But the majority of your cards are free if you want them to be. My hope is that they slash jewel rewards in half otherwise people are going to be getting a new mythic once every other week.

The effect of the disappointment on people is _far_ more on lower levels where they might only get 1 or 2 chances to use pinks. Yes it helps the people with heaps, sure, but they tended to be a bit more blase about it anyway because they have more to spend in the first place.

This changes things in multiple ways.

While you are correct that you can now craft all the mythics and then spend your pinks to only get the masterpieces, it's not that straightforward. Elite packs move away over time. Your period to buy all the mythics and _still_ get the masterpieces for that set is mostly while Mythics cost 7500 orbs. And, yes, some people will do this, but most won't have the resources.
The thing is... This is actually fine and good for the game, not bad, (as long as broken things like Omniscience are fixed fast) because people being motivated to spend money to buy pinks helps support the game long term for the rest of us.

Those of us who don't spend money or only a little bit will be subsidised by those who do and that's great, we still benefit by having the huge disappointment removed and it means far more that your single spending of pinks isn't a dupe, that was soulcrushing.
If other people have more stuff... Who cares? We can still beat them.

"We do not win with our cards, we win with our minds. Those that focus on cards have forgotten the face of their father."
They also effectively devalued the option of purchasing Crystals. I imagine that only newer players will be purchasing Crystals now. How that affects their income is unknown so motivating people to buy Jewels isn't a clearcut win since Crystals are the ones which one can pay unlimited amounts for.

And elite Platinum players can expect 12 Mythic+ Elite Pack pulls per set on average by maximising their Jewel earnings in-game. With the Masterpiece rates being around 35%, we're looking at an expected 4 Masterpieces per player per set. That's a substantial increase which to me validates the claim that the developers are 'going to just hand them out to the top players like that'.

In any case, expect to see a lot more people have complete Mythic collections.

    No elite pack dupes!? Awesome!

Too bad I read this an hour too late. There went 400 jewels I should have saved.

Loving the new objectives. RotGP should be interesting.

In any case, expect to see a lot more people have complete Mythic collections.
And pray  tell in what way will that decrease good gameplay? The comparison with [paper magis stands: in paper you can go to a game's shop and buy that one specific card you need, noone is hampering your ability to complete a collection if you want.

This is and will always be a collectible card game.  And those -always- work on the same basis: you buy cards or packs and the more you buy the better your collection. From a gameplay stance you get more choices but you still have to build strong decks. Thinking that a f2p player should expect to end up with the same collection if just silly.
The point is that the game should still be fun for an f2p player, and it is.

I do hope that oktagon and d3 figure out enough ways to gain revenue.
