    Hot fix in bound.

If you stun an air born character that was thrown by colossus it will cause your phone to explode.

I'm also kind of curious about how it's going to interact with someone Colossus tossed with a Fastball Special.

I heard they ran numerous simulations of this, and in every instance................the world was destroyed.

Haven't even got a single cover yet and I'm wondering who the champ reward for Angel will be.

Vulture?  Not a lot of symmetry with remaining 4*'s that don't already have 3* feeders.

Nightcrawler seems to be the most obvious candidate?

@Brigby I may have missed it somewhere, but have the 5* covers available in the Angel of Death legendary store been named?
True.  My thought was that NC was too 'new' but you're right, he seems the best fit.
Well, Gambit champ reward is Rogue, who was released just before him. Apparently being too new is not a problem.
Of course not. Covers for new characters means you have to get back on that ISO hamster wheel that much sooner!

If he stuns airborne characters and Nova's Rocket man only does damage when they come back down, does he negate the damage (by changing the status to a stun) or speed it up.
I'm also kind of curious about how it's going to interact with someone Colossus tossed with a Fastball Special.

I am looking forward to (someday) getting to punch people into the air with Riri and then smack them down with Archangel, tho

Consider the opposite scenario of Riri launching 5*Panther:

Riri deals damage and then sends target airborne. If that damage value would normally be enough for Panther to self-stun, he does but the stun is immediately overwritten by the Airborne status (order of operations) and when he comes back from Airborne, he deals his surprise attack damage because that still hasn't resolved yet.

The trigger that causes the damage to kick in for Rocket Man is the Airborne status ending. I've even encountered a situation where Nova has knocked a target Airborne, then been KO'd himself, and the target will still take damage once the status ends. Unless Arch/angel arrives with some significant changes to the mechanics of how status effects interact with each other, I would expect that stunning a target sent Airborne by Nova will also result in them taking the Rocket Man damage.

It sounds like 5* Archangel will stun and damage friendly airborne characters too? Not that big a deal, I guess, but why? It makes no thematic sense and seems like it's specifically just thrown in to prevent you from fueling him with Vulture.
It's a passive that negates the utility of a few other characters.  You'd need some downside to counter that kind of thing.

Personally I think it would be more balanced to make an anti-airborne power active, but I guess we'll see how things play out.

Also, given the 3* is "Angel" and 5* is "Archangel", does that mean they can be played on the same team?  I guess it is consistent with the fiction due to time travel, but then why do the two Jean Greys block each other?

Anyone who thinks that Angel is a counter to Gambit is delusional.  First of all, you still have to get this guy and champ him.  If you can do that, then you can just get your own Gambit and champ him instead.  It will do you a lot better in the long run.  Second, you still have to get 7 black AP to stop his AP generation.  In that time, you've been hit by at least 1 Gambit red, if not 2.  Plus, with his new AP denial, you'll have plenty of trouble getting that much black in the first place.  Finally, you've put out your cds and stopped his AP generation.  Mission Accomplished, right?  Sorry, Gambit purple overwrites your cds and you're back to square one.  At least Thanos purple keeps Gambit from firing his abilities.

Angel seems like a bad solution to a huge problem (Gambit) and a great solution to a minor problem (Vulture).  Seems pretty useless to me, but I'll wait until the numbers come out at least.

Completely agreed, but at least we're also getting Archangel! Also, it might leave the door open for a Classic Angel as a 4* one day.

Ironically, I think Arch's only usefulness is with Gambit. 3 active powers that Gambit doesn't use/block and can be fueled be Gambit's red as a couple are rather expensive. Plus another level of AP denial with his black. The two together could be nasty, but as has been opined by countless others, the last thing this game needs is another toon that works well with Gambit...

@CaseyMalone can you clarify what the interaction with characters that send opponents airborne to do damage when they land will be? For instance Nova's Rocket Man has come up: send the character airborne for 2 turns, do big damage when they land. If that "landing" condition gets intercepted by Archangel, does the damage not happen?

    Hey all!

I'm Casey Malone, one of the Designers on Marvel Puzzle Quest (I'm going to keep doing this intro given that I only have a couple posts on the forums, sorry if you know who I am already).

I just wanted to clarify that this is not the case.

The text of Archangel's 'Angle of Attack' ability reads:

Archangel dives and swoops, picking off his foes before they can get a bead on him. Deal damage and stun the target.

(PASSIVE) At the start of the turn, deal damage to any Airborne enemies and stun them.

I hope this clears that up. Archangel can be kind of a jerk sometimes, but for the most part he doesn't go after his teammates (Rick Remender's outstanding run on Uncanny X-Force aside).

Hope you all enjoy the character,

I got a response from a real live dev? Does this mean I am the Chosen One?
If so, be prepared to be tagged in a whole lot of questions that you want no part of  :D

Hey hey! I can confirm that Nova's damage does not happen.

Anyone get numbers yet? Wondering if he's worth pursuing in LTs, especially over DD.

Hopefully that means it will also shut down Fastball Special.

Maybe, but if you are pursuing 5* Archangel to avenge all of the times you've faced Colossus throwing an ally at you, you may be better off to direct your vengeance elsewhere, ha!
