AI gem swaps

I have noticed that sometimes after dropping a new line of gems, the gems will change colour, either robbing me of a cascade or giving the opponent an extra one.2
-
This all might be really some kind of a psychological mindfuck but I swear that in the last three times I saw AI summon Olivia against me, it happened every time in the round just before I would have finished off the opponent AND the lady come out rushing with the AI getting a ridiculous cascade.0
-
It's been happening for awhile, newest update now has it happening all the time. I now see the AI dropping multiple colors for multiple Cascades which is just plain dumb0
-
best i had was against Koth in the Breaking Points event. he summoned 2 tyrant of valukat and an olivia on a 5 gem match that cascaded then matched 4 red again in line and 4 red that dropped perfectly and got out ulrich.
this game is wank. event decks hahaha people bave to play specific cards hahaha u play event decks....hahahah.
and dont me started on the better chance thing in the vault......0 -
I have been noticing this for a while but since the update it's off the chart crazy with the cascades. Of course when they are done you are left with a only colorless mana move or a match three off color with no cascade yourself. But they say we are just the most unluckiest sheep in the herd. Baaaa.0

The "gem changing color afterwards" is just a visual glitch.
As for the AI cascading: it is programmed to make optimal swaps, it doesn't have superpowers. The gems that come from the sky can quite often be all the same color causing frequent multi-cascades.
The issue is when you are playing your event decks built for objectives vs. optimized decks (which apparently are also being submitted in this event), and one lucky cascade from the AI will overrun you.
It's funny because I notice this most when the AI is piloting Liliana, it seems to always get an extra swap on the same turn where it builds up enough loyalty to throw my cards out. I have grown wise to its "luck".

I had a lot of cascades lately. I remember having3 (or 4?) 5 gems swaps in the first round...
I think it's just that: Pseudo-random0 -
Absolutely. It is insane the amount of AI cascades now and I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. And, then you'll have no color matches right after. Tinfoilhat/tinykitty or not but when this pattern is predictable in matches, it is unlikely a coincidence.
Very predictable in the AI's favor also. For example, in a Koth v. Koth match - if you start with no reds to match. but there is a nearby single red - your match will almost always result in the AI being able to match 3 reds. This is not planeswalker specific. It happens on other AI PWs also.
Another predicable pattern I notice is that the starting board colors depends on the PW you are facing. If you face Arlinn, the board will be made up of a high percentage of green/red. If Koth, there will be at least two beginning opportunities for red matches to ensure the AI gets one.
Yeah, I know - I can see the devs rolling their eyes/tinfoil hat. But check your coders...
Never forget players - this game is purely an engine for the creators to make money. They will find ways to separate you from yours through coding.
The three mythic chances - just a way to clear more crystals to get people to buy more. Like many, I got two rares (one dupe) and a mythic dupe. The odds based on the cards I am missing would dictate otherwise (have only less than a third of all mythics.)

This is a huge problem right now and the **** about no AI advantage is old. I just played a match against Koth that I was about to win AI had a red match in the middle and a white at the bottom of the board. The white would not have resulted in any additional matches on board, no reason the AI chooses the white match, but it did. Cascade for 73 mana and destroys my 4 shield Hixus. A cascade like this has happened almost every match in BP. The cascade though the surface issue is not the real issue, it's the AI choosing a clearly worse match resulting in said cascade.1

That is interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a Koth match other gems when they have a red match available, unless it's a 4 or 5-gem match vs only 3 red. Makes you wonder just what's really going on under the hood...0 -

I can confirm that Koth actually engages in subpar matching at times, where the landfall prioritization algorithm will cause it to, say, go for a match-4 black instead of a 3-red that's available.
In fact, we were just discussing this in our coalition. There are numerous times, regardless of pw, that it will match-4 instead of taking an L-shaped match-5, for example.
I've been wondering if it has a "occasionally be stupid" code built-in.

If you cast animists' awakening, it will almost always try to match 3 gems with the activated green gem, regardless of impact on the game and personal interest. Most AI's plain out ignore everything else for the chance to stop that one from going off2
-
Just to clarify it was a 3 white match. No target of support or the hixus, it was all alone on the other side of the board. This is not the first time I noticed this and not only against Koth, it happened against L2 and Nahiri this event. Every time the AI had a clear best match on the board only to take something off color and cascade big, each time the match would not have resulted in any additional matches on current board state. Maybe the AI tried to lose and just keeps getting exceedingly luck.1

Good point, I've seen that too. But with @mournfen's last post, it doesn't seem like that was a cause either. Curiouser and curiouser.I suppose D3 (or whichever company it is that does the actual programming) wouldn't be likely to disclose when they make changes to game AI. Or gem pattern algorithms.

Since upgrade colour match has definitely been different. The randomisation just seems even more random. Maybe to make game harder/more interesting. When i now play Koth the start rarely has more than 2/3 red gems scattered round the edges of the board whereas before you could always go off with a good start. I usually find it's is 4/5 turns in before I can use ability one
upshot is games tend to take longer and whereas I would win 90% with koth...not any more0 -

It's obviously a bug. It's giving higher priority to landfall than 5 of a kind.

The code just does what it does, and it has been deemed fit for purpose for some reasonable degree of challenge.Matthew said:I've seen Koth make non-red swaps when it will damage or destroy a support of mine. Never for any other reason than that, or the ones that @julianus mentioned.

My biggest issue with the whole "visual display error" balogna is that the battle log now proves that wrong too. When I see Koth make a vertical match-4 and it looks like all red gems drop to make a massive match-7, I can go into the battle log and see that he did in fact get 16 mana which means every single gem that dropped was red. Bug, feature, AI cheating? I don't know, but I do know 7 of the same color should probably never drop together.0
