Thank for for the Gold Covers of popular characters

I think what he meant is that in PvE a buffed 2* wolvie would still be fun to play vs a buffed 2* thor which is almost the same as 3* thor. Of course in PvP you would go with your strongest team unless it was star restricted.0 -

Hopefully, this won't take the place of a 3* variant of Thor or Cap or any other gold they decide to make, but I fear it will.0 -
^ My ***Cap and Thor are useless fodder with just 2-3 covers each, but I'm forced to have both the 2** and 3*** version. Frankly if D3 has only a Gold Storm or a Gold Ares/whoever in store for us (ONLY ONE MORE LAZY CHARACTER), I'd be endlessly grateful that we got off that easy.0

I can't believe people are applauding D3 for this recycled, cash-grab garbage.0

This is actually my biggest issue with the gold/lazy characters. I don't have a problem with them per se. But we still have to keep the inferior version around (and take up a roster spot) because that version might be required in a future PvP (e.g. 2* only) or PvE (required/buffed hero) event.
Yeah.
Like, what if, when they made a "gold" version of a character, that meant that if you had at least one cover in a color on that character, you had a chance to pull a "gold" version of that cover instead of the standard version, and that gold cover, when trained, would replace a cover of the same color on that character. The first gold cover applied would evolve that power to the gold version, and converting covers to gold covers would scale up the damage/HP of the ability/character as appropriate.
That would have been a feature I would have been really excited over, whereas gold characters as implemented rub me the wrong way.0 -

Yes this. The simulator and the buffed 2* Wolverine has reminded me of why I liked him. It was nice to get a chance to use him again. I do not need a Golden Astonishing Wolverine for this just him buffed in an event.
Lazy characters make this never happen. When 2* Wolverine is buffed I enjoy the change of pace. If 2* Thor is buffed its just a 2nd copy of Lazy Thor.0 -

Well if you look at the gold characters, they are three of the most popular 2* characters in the game that are obsoleted by 3*. Having them become gold characters means players get to use characters they enjoy that are popular again because they are no longer obsolete.0 -
I wish Cap's ability set had been adjusted to a larger degree. His yellow still looks next to worthless from the outside and his other two powers could be reasonably deemed 'tricky' to use properly. Cap is one of my favorite Marvel heroes and I was pretty excited with the idea that he could finally be in my regular rotation. Now I can't decide if I should use the ISO on him to see for myself if he is better than he was, or save the ISO and rely on my first impressions.
Gold Daken and gold Thor make sense to me, considering their 2* usefulness, but maybe gold Cstorm would have been better than Cap. He was one guy I would have liked to see get the rework treatment a la Patch.0 -

This cap is a lot better than 2* cap. Not sure if youve seen this in the character thread, but his red maxes out at ~3.5k damage. Hell play a lot differently than 2* cap because his blue now nullifies autoattack damage and his red will singlehandedly deal a ton of damage over a long period of tome.0 -
My only contention with the Gold 3 star characters is that they are not backward compatible. I am fine with them having required covers for events, but if 3* Thor is buffed for an event, then so should the 2*.
Other than that, they are great and they have abilities that already fit into the balance matrix of the game. Given that D3 does not have an infinite level of staffing, getting upgraded versions of my favorites as a good trade off rather than nothing for a month while the implement alliances.0 -
Agree with Clint.0

I like the updated versions of the old heroes and I'm glad there is a useful cap and a 3 star Thor now. But how they were implemented is infuriating.
I had both Cap and Thor cover maxed and poured tons of ISO into them. Now I start from scratch to collect the same covers (over probably month), spend another 340k ISO, to get the same hero with the exact same build and abilities.
On top they hog 2 additional cover slots, because I can't just replace them in case of buffs/2 star caps ect.
A much better approach imho would have been to just update the old heroes. Give out update tokens as event rewards instead of normal covers, that promote the old hero to gold status. Each promotion grants 10 more max level or something like that.
But I guess that wouldn't have sold enough covers and slots.0 -
I only have one issue with the Gold characters - the amount of HP I have to pay to get more roster slots for them all. I'm a completionist so I like having pretty much every character (bar Yelena, she sucks), and with the fairly regular stream of new characters now the costs of roster spots is mounting up quickly. If they capped the roster spots at 300 HP a spot I'd be far happier about it.0

yes. I Wish roster slots were cheaper too. At 35 atm and with 3* daken and human torch, that's another 900 hp just to get them on the team.0 -

I paid 500 HP to open my 37th slot for Lazy Cap. 38th will be the same price, but I suspect it will continue to grow.0 -
I too enjoy the Gold Characters. Yes, there's not much in terms of new content, but they're definitely powerful. Not just for the increased level caps, but for the minor tweaks to the abilities. I look forward to more Gold characters (Gold Juggernaut please).0

You know they did say the next characters were going to be Torch and Gold Daken, they also said one would be a 3* and the other a 4* right? Shall we lay odds on whether or not Daken is the first 4* gold character?0

Ragequitter: "None of my friends understand my rage over a match 3 game..."
Mom: "Honey, it's ok, you still have your subscription to Hello Kitty Adventure Island"
Ragequitter: "I'm serious mom!!! I totally told the Developers that making lazy copies of the same characters with higher power levels is NOT OK!!!"
Mom: "Honey, this is a lot like when you couldn't pass level 173 of Candy Crush isn't it?"
Ragequitter: "No way mom, the Developers at King never responded at all"
Mom: "Honey, would you like a Juicebox?"
Ragequitter: "Thanks mom, a Juicebox sounds great!, I am going back to Hello Kitty where they understand me."0 -

Nah, an over/under on the number of players that would rage quit over that would be much more interesting.
IceIX has hinted that the next 4* character will be Void, but that might take awhile. See Dark Reign Void for how he fits into Norman Osborn's plans. I really don't know anything about D3's plans, but that page and the Dark Reign storyline suggests a possible MPQ storyline, where the Cabal tries to turn on Osborn. That would give a reason to play Doctor Doom, Ragnarok, Magneto, The Hood, Ares, Loki, Daken, and Bullseye as part of a storyline, and Void / those on his side could be the major opponents. Pure speculation on my part.0
