b/c its their god-given constitutional right, goshdarnit

I'm also a F2P player, I have every cover, and yes with effort and smart play it can be done... but I still disagree with required characters. It's a horrible way to reward players who spend money on the featured packs, and yes you can get them usually by ranking well in the previous tournament, but there is a chicken/egg scenario here that started with people having these characters because they started playing before required characters was a thing. I'm one of those people, it's why I've always managed to just about keep up enough for required characters not to be a problem. However I can also see that it's clearly a massive P2W initiative for newer players, who can't rank well enough to get the newest character because they don't have the latest required character. I saw someone else somewhere on these forums describe it as a 'gravy train' and I think that's pretty spot on.

    tl;dr - I'm F2P with all characters, and you're wrong.

Hate to break it to you, but if a newer player is too new to place well because they lack a required character, what makes you think they'd have a developed enough roster to place well with the required character?

This isn't a new phenomenon. It's been the case for the PVE for the entire history of the game. There have always been nodes that rewarded you for playing more often and/or getting lucky in packs and/or buying a pack that featured a character.

That's how the game works. If you put the effort and time in, it is very easy to get the characters you need to attempt an Essential node. If you don't, you can pay for it.

If you don't want to pay, you don't want to put the effort in, you can't compete. And that's fine, because why should someone who doesn't want to pay or play get to reap the rewards?

The point is that there is an ongoing loop where an event rewarding a new character pretty much requires the last new character to compete. Once you're inside that loop it's not so bad, but new players at some point have to break into that loop, and it's too hard. They will have the roster space because that happens with time, but getting these required characters is too limiting. Also, it has not been the case for the history of the game, all you're doing is showing your inexperience and ignorance.

For the record, I'm not suggesting that they scrap the required characters mechanic entirely, but having the 'required' nodes worth the most points, and often with the easiest fights, is just unfair. I'm pretty much exclusively hitting nodes 8-10 in the simulator and consistently scoring top 10, and I have no reason to do any different. That should change.

I don't think that this is really true. While lazythor was an exception due to only pve events handing him out, Psylocke and BP (and all previous 3* characters) all have had PvP tournaments that rewarded their covers, which means that the barrier to entry into these events is simply placing in the top 50 of that tournament, which is pretty easy to do if you have a roster that wants 3* covers to begin with. There probably is a 1-2 week period between when you can start to place highly in PvE events but don't have the required characters to do so, but everyone who doesn't pay experiences this period, and it certainly is pretty easy to break into the loop once you have the characters needed to do so: it just takes some time.

Fair point, but still no excuse for the required nodes to be as rewarding as they are.
  • i'm F2P palyer. and sometime that sucks if u don't have required char or not leveling him enough to compete...so just skip it, why so frustated over that? a lot of other events everyweek. if ur roster is small. pve is good for u. top10 in my bracket are always small rooster player.can't compete in pvp? just build ur rooster slowly. no need to leveling all ur char to max.
    just play for fun...
