  • When you swap more tiles there's obviously more room for disappointment as you see that match 5 become not a match, but there's also more opportunities for stuff to get matched too.

Even if say by magic we determined 12 random swaps is always best. Well, your 13th swap takes you away from the optimal match, but then your 14th swap should take you closer back to the ideal '12 swap' magic number. Sure, for any particular board there might be an optimum number of random swaps that leads to the best outcome, but that number is not computable and might as well be random to you, the player. Let's say a given board needs 15 swaps to reach its optimal state, there's no reason to believe shuffling it 16 times is any worse than 26 or 36 times, especially since you don't even know what the optimal number of shuffle is to begin with, so you might as well shuffle more.

While I was grinding my 100 progression reward, decided to impromptu go for a black hood cover at 100 points with 45 minutes left. Managed to get into 5th place: I think I attacked SongCN at some point while he was in the ~450s, so I think I might have accidentally secured the top 2 at the time.
  • I wiped with 15 minutes left, was leading almost the entire time. fell to 3rd. Not sure where second went he must have got hit hard, managed to claw up to 501 and shielded with 2 minutes left for my first Hood top2. 3/5/3 now icon_e_biggrin.gifD

Now whether to use a spare black so I can level him more because respec is coming. 115 Is probably the max level he should be though so I can concentrate making my other lightning round chars less suck.

Hi Chimaera, glad to see you got 2nd and I got 1st with 526. I attack SongCN who was 2nd at the time to secure 1st place, he drop to 450-470 points I think. Need two more yellows and I will be done with villains icon_e_smile.gif.

Ah yes, that's who was ahead of me after I dropped that match :/ Thanks for the assist. That Hood yellow makes me so happy. So many feel bads washed away.

Yeah not putting 5 in your purple in Loki is just...silly. Probabilistically speaking, there's probably more of a chance of matches being created when he shuffles an entire board than if you shuffled only half of it.

I was curious about this, so I set up a simple simulation where I populate a random board with 7 kinds of tiles (generating new boards until I get one with no matches), then swap some number of the non-environmental tiles, then count the number of tiles that are in matched groups. Averaging over 10,000 trials for each input, I found that for 14, 18, 22, 26, and 32 swaps, you end up with 3.10, 3.48, 3.76, 3.94, and 4.10 tiles in matched groups, respectively and before any cascades. Increasing the number of swaps causes this to eventually asymptote to something just south of 4.4 or so.

    Yay for monte carlo simulations!

I like your style! Thanks for doing that.
  • Thanks to the people who didn't slap me on my way to the top spot in my last (pre-nerf) Mags LR. Shielded and going to bed now, work in the morning, hopefully wake up to my last blue cover.
  • Kamahl, you only need top 8 for blue Mag. Leave the red for someone else lol.

OMG!!! Rango built his second Mags so fast!!!

I initially intended to go for the top in this round too since I only need red mags, the other two are already at 5. Then I noticed both you and Rango at the top and though, oh well, forget about this, just go easy and hit the top 50....

and with that diabolical cover I got a red mags icon_lol.gif sometimes, the game loves me icon_e_biggrin.gif

Once you have one, the second one is very easy to build through LRs. (Actually I got 3 covers from Sim tokens, and 3 from the Daredevil tournament, it's been a good time to build Mags this last week) I should have let someone else get the red cover, but I missed out on a reward I wanted over the weekend by not playing to the end of a tournament, so I decided to make sure. I've loved my first Mags 5/5/3 build, but I want to try out 5/3/5 before the nerf. I have a ton of ISO saved up, so I might try and push the 5/3/5 Mags up before I enter the Elite tournament.

Can you ever place top 75 in these without having a leveled villain? Just curious. One must start somewhere, but so far all my attempts at LR turned out to be futile, if only for standard tokens and some iso. Need I stop using oBW to attack and put anyone healthier and tankier?

Edit, it's top 25 now and I think LRs got shorter, which is actually good?

Don't feel bad. I use LR as my opportunity to get recruit tokens and some ISO to help enhance my current heroes. I have had no success in rising up in LR so I focus on other longer tournaments to get 3* covers. LR doesn't have small brackets so you're competing with a larger (and stronger) pool of players for rewards.

    Good luck in your quest.

Of course the one LR I'm doing decent in all day is The Hood.
Need to try and tank my score to get a Diabolical, because I'm already maxed out on blue.

I guess it's not a bad problem to have.

Edit: Well that was close. Managed to get below 25, but picked up some defense wins. Token got me my first red Rag cover (yay?) and one of the standard tokens from progression got me my first purple Loki (yay!)
  • Had fun with the Ragnarok round with few people attacking and could have easily taken top 25 for a single green cover for Rag, but opted to have a Diabolic token instead and voila! First red Magneto.
Then the Hood, which was 9000 times more competitive; I was hoping to get a Diabolic at least again but was getting swarmed by much stronger teams, thanks to my MMR I guess. People you may attack my squishy oBW-Daken all you want, I WILL retaliate if you're worth 30+ points, and sometimes even lower than that. And your Patches only help kill their entire teams in a hilariously fast way. I have yet to lose a round to the one eyed Wolvie I think.
On another note, got a Heroic token from the Hood round which produced a first green cover for my Baglady who is now 1-1-1. Not sure how to feel about this, all my IWs come not from my hard work (usually for the said Hood), but from random tokens, standard even once.

Edit: got a purple Moonstone from the standard token from the Doom round, quite pleased (don't laugh, she's buffed right now), the tank team is in.
  • So I've jumped to 100-200+ then thrown a tank team the last 5 lr. I think I tanked into a black hole lol. I couldn't tell where the real players began and the b@conm@gov ended lol. Fighting teams for 35 dakan and 60 wolverine. Say whaaa? I haven't seen anybody below 100 in weeks (I don't normally tank). Took down a guy with 3 lvl 15-20 with the power of my lvl 35 daredevil's crotch. MAY THE POWER OF C*CK COMPEL YOU, FOUL DEMONS!

Just makes me realize more how I wish tournements had a little.more options to them...so you could fight ppl with lower lvl teams with your own lower lvl teams if you so wanted. I have no plan to lvl DD for example, but I had a fun in matches rolling 35 dakan, 35 DD, 15 free doom (totally forgot he only drops 2 yikes at lvl 1 black lol) vs lvl 20-40 teams.
  • I uber-tanked yesterday in the three evening LRs (got up to about 150 each time and then got knocked back to about 25 points) so this morning I was able to overall win a LR for the first time. This was partly just to see if I could do it; even without the tanking I can usually get the diabolical at the 6 am Eastern match, and frequently top 25, just hammering the seed teams at the beginning and then playing 3-4 matches at the end.

The one frustrating thing - I've had a lot of success in the 6 am Eastern lightning rounds ever since I sort of "discovered" them. The trouble is, they're always Ragnarok and Doom (on villain days), and those are the two most levelled up villains I have, with both at 5/3. I really wish they would rotate these rounds so I could get a shot at Loki (mine is 5/0), Magneto (1/1/2), or especially Hood (0/0/1). I get the same matches at the same times and mixing it up a little would share the wealth a bit - I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a "favorite" time they'd like to take advantage of.

I was surprised how fast I was gaining points, between a 4-blue Magneto making match-5's happen with obscene frequency, to the Hood's crazy crit multiplier taking advantage of it, matches were ending in very few turns. Plus, within a few matches, several people had apparently attacked me and retreated (no way I'm going to believe they lost), which gave me a substantial bump early on, and.. well, I've only hit 500 once before, and usually the top unshielded players become a pool of piranhas chomping at each other to climb up, so shielding early seemed smart.

I actually have 3 Mag Red's in my cache right now, really hoping they announce Magneto changes soon along with pushing out that respec patch.

You really should have left the Mag red to someone who needed it.....

Anyway, LR is now officially over.

The las Mag round had this really bloody inconsiderate guy by the name of MANHOOD. He has a capped Mag, 141 3/5/5 Mag. Yet he still fought all the way to top place. He must have really needed the 75 hp. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway. Rango, are you related to this RanSolo guy?
