How should Caltrops be nerfed?

Rather than have threads like this, I think it would been far more productive discussing strategy and combos to beat them.

I think most people run into a problem when they try to just overpower the node. A lot of people do the same with a lot of the goon nodes. They try to kill (I'm sorry, knock unconscious) all the goons before the cd's go off.

While this is the simplest and often quickest plan, it is not always the most effective. A strong enough protect tile (or enough tiles) can mitigate much of the damage. That's just one example.
  • I can remember hating it when it was first introduced, but I've since realized there's some counter-intuitive wisdom involved.

You know your favorite TV show? There's that one character who ruins it for everyone, and you hate that character? You wish they would get rid of that character because it would make the show better. Or maybe it's a will they/won't they romance you really want to see come to fruition.

Well, as soon as you get your wish, the show will be ruined. Moonlighting and The Adventures of Lois and Clark both fizzled as soon as the not-yet-couple got together. Breaking Bad never fizzled because they kept Skyler around. I mean, if she wasn't there, Walt would just have become a super-criminal, and, well, he wins, the end.

I like it when MPQ becomes stupidly hard. That's when it gets exciting. Who's going to survive? Can you finish the Gauntlet? Will the player who's been number one in this PVE be able to keep up, now that he/she can't survive all the nodes? It's when the final node destroys me that I finally feel I'm competing, instead of grinding in lock-step.

So you'll have to use Storm and Falcon to spam the tiles. Now you have to get creative. Do you add more protect tiles or use a stronger fighter?

You'll feel proud of yourself when you figure it out.

why discuss strategy when we could nerf caltrops?

    I mean, using captain america/hood is too...pedestrian

    Become one of us...

    one of us....
  • Yes it's stupid and it's hard. Oh no. There ARE ways around it. Like all things in MPQ, if you simply have all the characters and have paid ridiculous amounts of HP for 60+ hero slots, you'll be just fine. </end sarcasm?>

I'd much rather they put effort into creating new enemies to fight. It wouldn't be so stupid and hard if you only ran into them once every three months... instead of nearly every week.

99% of all bad guys are from the following small pool
    Dark Avengers
    The Hand
    Goons
    Random soldier dudes

The Ultron event, while disliked, was awesome. It was fresh and new. And now we're back to the same rotation.

Sorry to derail the thread, but really, the problem isn't Caltrops, its a gross lack of variety of badguys to fight.
  • Mohawk Storm destroys Caltrops. Combine her with Cap and you can take out any ninjas. The forum is so PVP focused it seems like it's levels behind on PVE.

I hope that means "less than effective" in your lexicon. We have nodes that open with a pair of 7k+ kishus, which means you're going to have to collect enough reds and take enough turns to hit them 4 times. One or both is going to lay caltrops before you manage to do all that. And half the time the board's going to open with just 5 or 6 reds. I hope you enjoy all the pink and green Hood will be gathering for you.

Cap, KK, Cage for long wave nodes, all day. Every shield thrown is a heal.. every punch in the face, a heal, upper cut for wolvie or gorgon, bashes for kishu when needed. This team is how i got T10 last EoTS.

Of course, i did try IF, Cage, PX on a run .. wow by the end of it, the shield had caltrops doing a max of 1 damage, even an adamantium slash did only 200 or so, and IF's tile was doing 3-4k a turn. PX, once i finish covering and leveling him (4/4/2 currently), will be a must have for these waves. heck, even the occasional forehead dance to 1 shot a goon.

thank you for responding to ignored persons, already covered what I was going to say. icon_mrgreen.gificon_mrgreen.gificon_mrgreen.gificon_mrgreen.gif

I can't believe there are people who would deny 3*Cap rules survival nodes in this day and age.....but yeah, professor x is another thought. As is bullseye, but who actually invested iso/covers into their bullseye yet?

Yes, that would definitely be effective. It's way better getting good advice delivered sincerely, rather than awful advice delivered with awkward sarcasm.
