Very clear concept, but hard to do on the 3:2 aspect ratio of the iPhone 4/4S and older Android phones. I guess that's ultimately the limiting factor and why the current design is the way it is.
During the crash bug, I tried playing a bit on an iPhone4. The top of the screen was cut off, and the game ran unacceptably slowly (and there was a popup warning you that the device didn't meet the minimum system requirements). In other words, the're not really supporting the iPhone4 as it is, so that shouldn't be a consideration in implementing these improvements.

I play on a 4s when I'm not on my tablet and it runs just fine, no lag or popup about requirements. I don't think they will do anything to limit their audience like dropping support for smaller screens, but it wouldn't really surprise me either.

BUMP! The Vault is ok but was a waste of the devs time compared to fixing the interface. Last change they did made it much worse than it was. Please all, do not let this topic die until it is resolved. Thank you.

    Agree!
Trying to tempt us with slot machine vaults is all well and good but so is better UI to keep players coming back by giving them something clear and useful that we use every single day!

    Let me elaborate.

For one, every iPad has the same 3:2 aspect ratio as the iPhone 4S. That's what you develop for, it's just a fact.

And B, the iPad 2, which is also the iPad mini, uses the same A5 chip as the iPhone 4S. Together they still account for ~20-25% of active Apple devices. The A5 is a work horse. It's still about as fast as many sub $150 Android tablets. Which is the bulk of Android tablets sold. The A5 is representative of the low-end to target in development.

So both from a screen and performance point, you absolutely have to factor in these devices. You can't just ignore a lot of potential users because their devices are frankly ancient.

I would love to see a redesign of the current interface, but that's a huge challenge. And not to poke at D3 / Demiurge, but they did say new events and character refreshes have no effect on ROI. I doubt a new interface would either.

This would be amazing. Fantastic job generating this image. I hope the devs incorporate all of these suggestions. Well done!

This is amazing. I moved to steam because I couldn't deal with the mobile interface but this would be absolutely perfect.
I can't tell you how much I would love this omg.

Sometimes big images don't get loaded and are replaced with the text "Image". It's a mixture of forum software and browser weirdness.

This is a fantastic idea and liked by so many that the devs will definitely not implement it. In fact they may even redesign the interface to be even more user unfriendly than it is now. Brilliant job nonetheless.

The only reason I absolutely avoid playing on mobile unless forced to is the horrific interface, lacking something as basic as the constantly visible AP bars. I base my gameplay around AP, not seeing it at _all_ times is equal to playing blind.
Great job, OP, brought some tears of joy from good design and ergonomics to my face.

This is almost the way that the Steam interface is laid out currently, and I like it.

The addition of Strike, Attack and Prot values at the top would be a fantastic QoL change. While we're at it, can we get actual values automatically added into the tool tips for abilities?

    For example...

HulkBuster Red - instead of saying "deals 630 dmg per Red AP" and then having to check your ap stash (12 red AP) and figure that you're dealing 7560 dmg (meanwhile forgetting that you currently have 1000 points in strike tiles on the board), it would be nice to have it just say "currently deals 8560 dmg (630 per AP + 1000 Strike)"

XForce Green - instead of "deals 1360 and destroys 15 tiles" -- leaving people wondering what the max damage is it would be nice to see it laid out like "Destroys 15 tiles and currently deals ~3042 dmg (1360 + 9 to 82 per tile + 1000 Strike)

You could also add in loss of damage due to protect tiles for funsies.

-- Thinking about it, that's probably going to make your tool tips a bit busy, maybe default to the maths off, and allow people to turn on the exact formula in the options somewhere.

That is totally amazing. If you aren't already in UI or game design you should be! Only suggestion I have is some way to clearly indicate % health levels since several powers depend on that.
Agreed. They could change the + symbol to a flat bar, and then have room for the numerical % to be displayed under it.

This is a beautiful answer to the user interface. Great job!
  • In such a way that you can see the enemy AP bars fill up until a skill is "ready" just like you can for the player skills.

I think your design is really good, I hope D3 is listening.

Now you need to take a look at tablets, specially the ipad, because this design works in 16/9 screens and the ipad is 4/3

Ps: At least I hope that D3 would make in the AP screen that appears on the sides the color of the text or highlight in some way the Aps that are changing. Now it is really difficult to know which ones are changing
  • This is excellent!

IceIX has now acknowledged that they've seen this and do like it. The problem is that it works on the iPhone 5 and bigger phones but not smaller ones. My gf had an old Galaxy S2 and things were already super packed up as it is in that comparatively tiny screen. Many of the new features in this design would be almost invisible at that size, while making all the other elements of the current design even tinier.
