Lightning rounds are not very competitive this week. Last night, I beat seed teams until they ran out (around 200 points), then went to bed. In the morning, I was top 25. While I suspect that one is sort of an anomaly, it means it's not terribly impossible to get top 50 and a diabolical.

A few weeks ago, beezer actually won a lightning round with only 2* characters.

Also, I have a question for those defending the Devs choices... honestly can you please tell me how a new or even a player with a few *** characters is expected to ever become competitive? Or really, even get a team of *** characters? Please don't tell me how you did it because the environment has changed and having to rank in the 1-5 range to get *** covers seems increasingly unlikely against people who already have great teams. How are players that don't currently have *** characters or only have one or two covers for them supposed to get more? And if your answer buy HP... then that kind of answers if this is a cash grab....

To be honest you need to get a little lucky. Going up to a 3* roster is something that takes weeks of dedicated playing in order to achieve. The best way to do it is to focus all your efforts on a recently released character, since the devs tend to hand those out more frequently (patch for instance was a progression reward for the current pve tourney and placement for the last 2 pvp tourneys/ pve event. Assuming that you can place in top 45 of the pvps (which isnt that hard) you would have maybe 5-8 patch covers by now, which means that youre god to go once he is a reward in the upcoming tourney.

I've been playing since early October, and I've just in the last two weeks been able to significantly upgrade to a *** team.
Even after spending money on roster slots, I still spent my first three weeks joining lightning rounds just to farm the 50 point recruit tokens.
I also went through maxing a * lineup before moving to **s, and played with them for two months before getting enough *** covers to start swapping out.

There's nothing in that process that is harder to do today; in fact it's easier due to the lack of real competition in LRs post rag nerfs.

Where people are feeling the massive sense of discrepancy is that for the last month events have been handing out thor and ** wolvie covers like candy, instead of the Daken, Capt. America, and Moonstone that older players suffered through, and suddenly were able to compete on an even footing with every other char in the game.

...since we're on the topic, was pretty silly of the devs to keep handing out so much thor/wolvie when they were planning on nerfing him.

Well with Ragnarok no longer being instant win I suspect people decided to stop trying to rearrange their lifestyle to do well in them.

You don't really need that much luck, because usually the 'promotional' character (e.g. Punisher last month, Patch this month) rains like candy. Sure, they're probably not the most powerful 3* known to man but they're certainly serviceable.
  • For those complaining about Daken, he's supposed to be hard. You have to stun him before you match a green, or you WILL die. Wolverine 2* change makes it actually slightly easier to take all the reds to prevent him from getting them as well, and you should be saving your AP+3 all (they still drop, at least that's what others say) for a level 230 Daken. Beating him now makes a very noticeable jump in a sub-bracket. Don't try to do this in the main bracket unless your team is extremely powerful since rubberband and the number of missions gives you a fairly easy way to climb the ladder without messing with level 230 Daken. He's not even in any of the high level missions if you haven't been hit with the 'everyone is level 230' issue.
  • Only 1 ****-kissing thread? I think we need more.
  • Daken is annoying, I think you need patch to tank the strike tiles until loki has enough black to make you instant win.

Or you just have to either the best there is Daken in 1 shot or stunlock him.

Blue boost +stunlock on daken is kinda the only way to win reliably icon_e_sad.gif

All these people thanking the devs must be the devs themselves or people who are cheaters. I don't know how people can thank other people who shaft them over and over. With every update i'm finding out i wasted money and time. I level up thor and wolvie and they get ****. All my maxed one star covers get 2 shotted by the nerfed covers. Ragnarok super **** in every way imaginable. Boosts now cost way more than the help they give. Ares can only go up to level 85 yet the computer has a level 230 ares. Why? The rewards for beating that level 230 aries and company are useless anyhow.

The only thing I can thank the devs for is the time i will no longer be spending on this game when newer games come out.

A little background on me: I am old. I have played games for my income since I was 15, starting with the Magic: the Gathering pro tour. My major income now is from poker, but I still play many F2P games, and I am friends with a couple of F2P developers, plus working on my own F2P game (might be a pipe dream, but who knows!). I have played pro/semi-pro level DotA and other games nobody cares about. I live for games. I will always live for games.

This is one of the best companies I have ever witnessed in terms of listening to the players and implementing desired changes. There is almost no other game you'll find where the players complain about one character/class/etc. and it gets nerfed within a month. That kind of response time is unprecented in the gaming business, especially when Korean and Chinese games are dominating the market. I was absolutely blown away when I started playing MPQ and saw that the devs actually implemented ideas from the forums within a week or two. You have NO idea how fortunate you are to be listened to so closely, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

I am split when I look at the changes themselves; I see a lot of ideas which simply do not fly from my game design background, but I also see a desire to make the game better. The developers clearly are trying to improve the game and not turn it into a cash grab. You guys don't even know what a cash grab looks like. The devs have good intentions, but they don't know how to implement them, because they are new to this model of game. You need to stop **** and give them some leeway and meaningful feedback to enact changes that are meaningful. They are trying. Most companies don't try and don't care, because they know their game will be dead within a year, so they want to grab as much cash as they can. D3 is not one of those companies. Please believe in them and address your (valid) complaints without tinykitty on the company and the game itself. Thank you.

So you also think and agree that devs can't implement that list of features my interns could work down in a day like confirmation/lock of HP use, show tile controller, option to disable animations, add 14th cover with removing another, and ... (look up the rest yourself on Suggestions group they get posted every other day) because they lack proper feedback? And we better stfu and change our **** to praise for their NOT delivering?

You're not supposed to be competitive as a new player. You're supposed to get owned. All of us have been there. You play through PvE, gather ISO, and get a little stronger everytime. I haven't spent a dime on this game and I don't feel I play any more than anyone else here. It's just a matter of consistency and persistence. New players should not expect to be winning tournaments. You grab low-hanging fruit, get stronger, and then reach for higher prizes a little at a time. This is the way every game works. I'm not saying recent changes have made this easy, but the formula remains the same. Aim for ISO and token prizes during tourneys and your roster will grow in both size and strength.
