Yeah people defending the devs is dropping fast. Sad to see a fun game get deleted.

True story. I was about to buy a tablet to play this game, and of course be able to try other games. Given the cost though I went with upgrading my pc, that was defintely the right route to go. Ultimately, that tablet would be to primarily get easier access to this game. Now with all these hair-brain improvements, I'm looking like a genious to myself. I made all these decisions before this patch. I'm ready for my upgrade to come so I can play something else.

Based on IceIx's reaction to my thread, I realize nobody on this team gives a damn about the players...

Hey, WK99, do you care to post a snippet of that response? Or a link to the thread? I'd really like to know what was said so I can use that to accurately gauge whether this game is currently worth my time, or if I should just wait a month or two before starting it up again.

From my experience, IceIX seemed genuinely concerned with player experience. Not saying that couldn't change at any given moment.

    Thanks!
  • It was just a pompous reply when I said people dissatisfied should rate the game 1 star... He basically said Go ahead if it makes you feel better, but it won't change anything...
  • This is his actual quote in response to me rating this game 1 star...

If it makes you feel better, feel free. I'll state that it's not very effective as a tool for enacting change though. We look far far more at what people are saying on forums or social media than knee jerk 1 stars that come out of a Patch, which happens every time to every game no matter what it is.

This is fast becoming an us vs them environment very toxic for any game.

Trust me, it's punishingly hard to complete for this person who is supposedly in the upper echelons icon_eek.gif

Basically what we see here is the same process that Diablo 3 went through.
Everything that was fun to the players was patched out, until you had to rely on the auction house or real money auction house. Nerf after nerf after nerf, players found out how to play around the game or found builds that worked particularly well, a short while later it was nerfed.

Even the responses from some of the development team to criticism are similar.

I just hope that the developers come to the same realization, that this is not a course you can go for a prolonged time.

Players like to progress, have fun, feel overpowered... it's hard to balance, I understand that, but it's certainly not impossible.

With the change to booster cost, the nerf to certain characters, the buffing of enemy levels it has become harder and harder to progress and sink time into the game without paying money for it. Buy boosts with HP. Your whole team died to a ridiculously overpowered Maggia MP? Why not stock back up on health packs with HP? Hey why not pay HP to enter our newest tournament, where you have to spend additional HP to shield up?

Adding the cost of skipping opponents soon won't make things a lot better, especially with the current state of matchmaking.

I'm sure if they'll ever add a respec option, it will cost HP as well.

Paired with the ridiculous cost to value of ISO-8 (not even leveling up a 2 star character to max for $99 seems reasonable, right?)... I don't know.

Picking my battles now. Army of one is just about to end and I'm just entering now, I'm 50th place after two battles. I won't be playing much, but they like that.

Damn. Seems like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. icon_lol.gif

But, seriously, yeah, even that could be phrased more diplomatically. Although, the subtext of the message does advocate some helpfulness--and maybe frustration--on his part toward the path this game has taken.
I'd like to think that orders were sent from someone at D3, the publisher, to make changes that increased monetization immediately. Likely some upstart jerk with a finance background who thinks s/he can actually make the game better with this transparent money grab, and had the misconception that the target audience wouldn't be smart enough to fall victim to these horrible changes. And the devs were left without many other options. This game is their baby, after all; who would hurt their own baby?

I'd like to see some confirmation to these suspicions from IceIX, but, him speaking out against the publisher would be biting the hand that feeds, and I wouldn't blame IceIX for not doing that... Not until the publisher kills that baby. (getting close)

His answer was honest. Something he should share with the rest of the office.

Running into a wall in the Army of one event. What they don't seem to understand is the scoring/matchmaking. I find a whole team of lvl 60 worth about 18 points to battle, and we all know you can find battles worth alot more with punisher at lvl15. So you use the skip button, whose fault is that? There seems to be a whole ton of confusion on their part on what's really happening, it's broken system, and I'm sure there will be some kind of hell to pay if they ever charge to use the skip button on this broken system.

You know the ISO for skipping is coming, as is the Major nerf to Spider-man to neuter his healing and stun...
  • Sure, i'm quitting the game, too many nerfs/p2w features each patch/update!

Of course. Now looking at the amazing Wolverine tourney. All nerf prone material are the rewards, yippy. Who are they kidding.

Given the changes. I was using OBW, and some reason juggernaut, cause everyone is using him now (do I hear the word nerf?), and punisher. Now with this one you for yourself to lather rinse repeat to earn bogus rewards, cause to me I only care to use OBW and Juggernaut now.

The ToT tournament did it in for me; after the first 5-6 matches - EVERY fight was against L230 opponents. With boosts, patience, luck, and the help of my Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, I was actually able to win about 2 out of 3 matches. Silly me, I had the illusion I had some control over what happened in a match.

Now it takes far too many resources to have your team killed by goons who throw out countdown tiles like candy at an Easter Parade.

MPQ went from Cool -> Fun -> Challenging -> Frustrating -> discouraging. And a game - any game - should be enjoyable to play. And MPQ is no longer enjoyable.

Amen to this. I defintely gonna quit this game or play it vert casually. It really get out of hand with this nex update. Unplayable.....
  • I don't have a problem with the nerfs. I felt some of the characters were over used and they should be pushing for people to use a wider variety of characters. For instance I can't wait for spiderman to be nerfed because I see him on 90% of the teams I face. I do think they should offer a respec option though. I'm not willing to sell my Wolverine off only to have to require 13 more covers even as easy as they are to acquire. What happens when it's a 3 or 4 star that gets nerfed. How do you reacquire those covers? It can't be that hard to implement a way to offer a one time respec based on how many covers you have for the character.

One problem I do have is the matchmaking. I currently see the same 10-12 teams and I can beat some of them even though all of them are above my level. Sometimes significantly higher level such as the triple 141 teams when I have no character above 89. The ones I can beat I can farm for points if I wanted because they will continue to show up even after I beat them. Is that what you want is for me to just take points off the one team I can beat? I wouldn't want that to be happening to me. Then last night I briefly saw a 10 iso cost on the skip option. You can stick that **** right up your **** if matchmaking stays how it is. There are like 70k players and you can't find me more than 10 or so to match me with and all of them have to be higher level? Matchmaking is **** right now and it really is just one way the game is less fun than it was a few weeks ago.

The other problem I have right now is the Daredevil event which is just an exercise in frustration when all you fight are high level teams. Must be great for all those high level players who can stomp through those but not everyone can do that and it has seriously taken away the fun of playing this game. I have played 344 hours of MPQ since it released on steam and the last week has been the least I have played because the game is just not very fun anymore. I'm not playing MPQ because I want a Dark Souls level challenge. I'm playing because it's a stress reliever and I can play and not have to put a huge amount of effort into having fun.

One shot kill out of the box to me is the only thing they need to nerf. I mean are they even playing the game to know first hand what needs to be nerfed or why. I find people are going to use the best cover no matter what and whatever the situation which leads to overuseage for some, not all. Quit wasting time on an endless battle with this nerf ****, every cover will have a nerf within a year and all that time wasted when they can fix the bugs, like matchmaking.
  • Err, seriously a volverine event starts in a state when patch is bugged (just now in the other direction, granting big swords to enemies)? Or the report was false?
