Changes Coming In Season XIII

  • As a 94 max player, I enjoyed the this pvp event and I actually placed in the top 100 for the first time during a season event. It was good playing against teams at my level but I see the point that the veteran players are making. I don't mind the old system. ...running into 120+ was frustrating but it pushed me to try to get to that level some day. However, the problem was that I would be destroyed once I broke into the top 100. I consistently fell just short of reaching the cover goal. if they do go back to the old system, I hope the award is increased to top 150 like a pve. It would help the transition of many players.

This is great. This is exactly what the change was meant to accomplish. However in protecting 2* rosters we sacrificed developed rosters to the wolves. Some possible additional changes have been discussed, and I don't think "lets go back to 2* farming for points" is the right answer, but man do I miss being able to climb 300 points in an hour of free time.

The structure of Heavy Metal is not good for noobers even though they think it is. That structure would force you guys to stagnate and never develop your rosters, you just have too little experience to see it so stop thanking the devs for neutering you. It's embarrassing. Seriously also, do you guys think we got these rosters at sign up? We were in a much harder boat than you because we didn't have all the extra covers from Deadpool to help us along. We fought and scrapped for top 100 finishes in PVP and top 150 in PvE for the chance for just one cover and it was Season Freaking VI before I was good enough to earn my first 4,ooo point Heroic 10 Pack. You act like we didn't earn it and it's impossible for you to earn it. It aint so have a little self respect and grind it out.

I earned 476 points in Heavy Metal, good for a 15th place finish and my first two Kamala covers. Shielded at 5th place with 8 hours to go to have dinner with my family. Got hit many dozens of times, usually around 13-16 points per loss before that. Insane the effect the changes had. Also got my first purple Squirrelly Girlly cover today, last power I needed for her. Teenage Riot seems a return to normal thank goodness, gonna try to get 800-900 points banked for my Ten Pack.

This new change has ruined pvp for me. Last few seasons I was able to get to 5 or 600 easily without too much effort. I am at 200 and getting killed by people I try attacking. Seems like ai is getting to pop off powers way too easily. I barely got to use any powers before my team was dessimated the last few matches I tried. Seriously considering quitting pvp after this change. Went from fun to frustrating waste of time.

I had the reverse experience, I am seeing opponents in my class and was finally able to climb above 275. As a 2-3 * transitional player it was always frustrating to hit the wall of 166ers after only a few matches. The playing field seems more fair.

I see all the complaints regarding unfair competition and, valid as they may be, I think this test is designed to see what happens when players are more evenly matched. Top level players haven't been jipped by this change, you all still have your awesome rosters. If this worked, you should now be fighting opponents in or closer to your own class. Lower level players are still locked out of the T10 once they become visible to everyone; this pretty much addresses the concern that 3 and 4 * rosters are competing for the same awards as 1 and 2 * rosters. It doesn't address points accumulation but that should balance out through the winning and losing of matches. This system just makes it more fair by pairing players with opponents closer to their level. I know this hasn't been everyone's experience thus far, but I assume D3 will continue to work on it tomorrow.

This isn't a perfect solution but it's a start. The biggest change I recommend is that players always be visible to opponents in their class regardless of point total. This, combined with the T10 visibility, should help even the field a little more.

I also agree with gamar from some earlier posts, endgame rosters should not be competing with 1 and 2 * rosters. Any points obtained from these matches should whittle down into negligence as the gap between opponents widens.

With Teenage Riot, my Wolveroach account is seeing 1* opposition for 20 points. Now, 20 points is 20 points, and a quick win with practically no damage, but it feels like kicking kittens, and I'll pass, thank you.

And one thing in passing, is Kamala yellow the worst single power for a loaner, ever? (Not True) Healing for 110 is nothing, and once her team is down she relies on match damage.

Wow that does suck. I'm honestly surprised KK's strongest color isn't green. Seems like it should be.

Started teenage pvp, at 417 pts now, highest team I saw was 94/94/120, so it's back to normal, for now anyway. So maybe we **** to early, lol icon_e_biggrin.gif

Or maybe we **** the exact right amount! icon_lol.gif
Or maybe, it's just that playing with the loaner Kamala led everyone to play a weaker team - i.e. with underleveled loaner - and the lower average strength of the team grants a lower strength of opposing team icon_question.gif
    Is it possible?
edit: on 2nd thought playing with the loaner don't change the strength of your roster and shouldn't impact the new MMR calculation. So, forget what I said icon_redface.gif

Loaner powers are always the first powe, which I think is silly. Why can't it be random like their cover rewards allegedly are?

I also hate getting Loki's 1-cover black power

While I hate the current loaner system, when characters are 'powered/covered up' all it does is let 2* players punch above their weight, and made matches much much more dangerous on health packs

Some data: last 6 events for me:

Army of One - 49 matches won - scored 1099
    Mind Games - 52 matches - 1044

    Boosted Characters Implemented:

    Hot Shot - 39 matches - 981
    Fatal Attraction - 48 matches - 1023
    Krakadoom 45 matches - 1052

    Whatever they call this implemented:

Heavy Metal - 30 matches (so far) - 433 (and soon to drop again I'm sure)

    That's just a brutal impact.

Quoting myself so the edit doesn't get lost. Full disclosure, I finished this one with 49 matches won for 901. So my number of matches wasn't really affected, but score for that kind of investment is down about 190 points from what I'd been averaging. I also had to use 4 shields to get there, which is well more than I usually use.

The only brightside is that my bracket was fairly light and I got top 5 for 901, which is also about 190 points less than what it usually takes. So I'll take the trade off, but would still much prefer the old way (which Kamala's events seems to be closer to).

I wasn't saying to give full-covered loaners, I was saying it would be nice to give you one of the 3 powers, randomly, rather than always be the first.

And also, that I'd take 110 health on power use over Loki's 1-cover black

On a good note, her heal makes rag's green usable !
  • The changes to progression awards was welcomed as a good change, the changes to tokens people raved about...but if I cannot reach those progressions anymore and earn those extra tokens because of the MMR changes then I am a sad puppy.
I reached the 600 progression in Heavy metal. Tried to go higher but clearly my defense team scared off no one and I ran out of healthpacks 4x over just trying to stay at the same place.

I used to be able to climb with my lower level characters, then pull out my 2 166 level guys to fight at the end of PvP. The new system doesn't care that I only have 2 top level guys. It was a health pack sucking slog to a whopping 300 before I was out of HP and time, forced to use only 2 ppl the whole time. Now pve is harder as you level and pvp is harder if you level. Why level? I guess this was the devs fix to the ISO shortage, make it so you shouldn't take anyone past 94.

As a side note in our alliance a 2* guy pulled in an 8 th place while the 3* guys struggled to eek into top 100. Why did we spend a year to get lower results than the 1 month folks?

It may be, but so is the reason to play.

  • 2* Team VS 220+ PVE Goons
    AP boosts reduced
    ****?!?
  • I feel like this might actually be bugged. I'm a 2-3 transitioner (highest covers in the 11x range) and I've really enjoyed the new MM system; the earlier levels are much tougher (I see only a handful of freebies after the initial seeds), but the 166 wall threshold is WAY higher. I used to hit it in the 350-400 range but I managed a top 25 finish and 600+ points in the 2 rounds so far. It's not perfect - I find myself getting attacked a lot more in early rounds, and it's not uncommon for me to lose upwards of 170 or 180 points overnight, but this just means I need to adjust my strategy. I used to join as early as possible to get the progression awards as high as I could but now that the wall has shifted that's not really needed.

But having said all that, there are many stories in this thread that are very different to my experiences. Players not seeing any fair matches after the seed wall does not sound like "working as intended" behaviour. I know some of the remarks in this thread are likely by people who are pissed they can't ground out level 50 teams with their 4* roster until they hit 700 points or whatever, and I don't have much time for that kind of grousing, but some of the complaints definitely sound legitimate - fair is fair, and fighting similarly matched teams is IMO a reasonable goal to shoot for from the devs. But they need to look at these cases where teams are only getting matched with much higher level opposition straight out of the gate.

These changes are obviously causing a lot of pain for people (and there's a lot of negativity in general since the KK/KP fiasco), but I'd urge you all to try and be a little patient. This stuff is - to be fair - pretty complicated stuff, everyone agrees PvP needs an overhaul, but it was never going to be fully "fixed" to everyones satisfaction overnight.

Having said all that, the devs could do a much better job of being communicative about this stuff, and throwing a bone here and there to the community. For example, in recognition of the unusual nature of the start - and likely the rest - of this season, perhaps an across-the-board reduction of the award thresholds for one season only would demonstrate their understanding of the frustration that tweaking in a live environment can cause.

I want to share my own experiences for this - there is definitely something weird going on. I'll preface this by going into my roster - it is a pretty solid 3* roster with 11 characters at full covers/166, another 12 at varying levels between 127 and 153, and a bunch below. My X-Force is 5/5/3 at 211, no other 4*s worth leveling. My IM40, the featured character for Heavy Metal, is 5/5/1 at 127.

Heavy Metal was... interesting. Honestly, to me it looked like it was working exactly as intended - I saw mostly 3* teams, some maxxed, some not, the occassional team had a 2* in it. I started seeing 4*s early, probably around 300 or so, but it was not really ever to the point where I couldn't skip and find some team I could take. I couldn't use my normal climbing team of Patch (3/5/5) and Daken nearly as much, and so climbed more slowly. I definitely got more retals than normal, but nothing like some other people are describing. I probably lost a total of 100 points from retals over the event. I didn't have much free time over the weekend, so I made it up to 614, shielded, then did two more clears to end up at 676. This got me top 50 by a whisker - I don't know what would have gotten me top 25, but 1000 points was pretty close to the top end, I think 5 was around 850-900. To sum up - my experience with Heavy Metal was definitely worse than I usually see, but not unfair. I was prepared to play like this indefinitely - it just would mean starting PVPs earlier and skipping more.

I started "Teenage Riot" yesterday. I saw a lot of 2* teams (this is normal for me, I do tank my MMR.) Most of my nodes show 2* teams or transitioning 2* and low 100s 3*. I climbed up to nearly 500 yesterday and got attacked maybe once or twice? I'm climbing now - I don't need the X-Force at 1000, but I would like another Kamala cover at 800 and maybe another token at 900 - and I'm still seeing things that I would consider "normal," maybe a bit more transitioners than usual.

So yeah, I don't know what's going on. Maybe the featured character made my matches harder in Heavy Metal? Maybe they backed out the change?
