Had Master Plan maxed out a long time ago and I think I got purple at 2 and yellow at 3 though I only use him for Master Plan and I don't expect his other two skills to deter anybody in PvP anyway, while they're fairly irrelevent in PvE since I'm not a fan of using a strategy that involves downing all my guys except PX.
The PvP roster restriction keeps him balanced but I really don't like how it's randomly PX's reign of terror whenever you got the right guys as featured, and I don't see him being dethroned as the go-to cheese guy of PvE anytime soon.0 -
An invisible Professor X is still vulnerable to abilities that damage your whole team such as Tommy Gun. It's a good idea to keep this vulnerability in place, as Professor X is strong enough to trivialize many battles with invisibility already.0

I think Prof. X might be the lazy thor of 4*s in that he is clearly a good character, but he might not quite make it to "nerf" level.
By himself, he doesn't dominate PVP (as other have pointed out, he needs the right companions to really take off, and that's hard to do in pvp. And even with more health, someone like GSBW is a complete liability on defense and just isn't a tempting pvp option).
I know that I would generally prefer to fight him in PVP than a maxed IMHB. Both of them can wreck my team in no time if the board luck is terrible. But most of the time I can work around their most dangerous abilities, and dropping 9k is easier than 18.0 -

i could actually see a minor tweak like a minor reduction to dmg output on the floating head of death (master plan), but im worried they will snap over nerf him like they have done to others...wanted some other educated opinions..as opposed to trolling or flame baiting please...
try to remove bias if a bot x has pwned u in gauntlet or elsewhere and opine on whether he needs adjustment
Oh they WILL nerf him, definitely...he's so crazy overpowered it's downright scary...the enemy team got lucky and got a match-5 which triggered a cascade and several other match-5's, and then he got invisble and killed med off on his own with tile-spamming. Most unfair character ever.
Here's hoping they at least make him balanced and don't nerf the tinykitty out of him like they did with X-force...which is still very useful, btw.0 -

so they got a few dozen ap from a cascade and would have killed you either way but you're extra pissed because it's a guy in a wheelchair who beat you?0 -

The AI does not make match5s unless it has no other choice, and he has no direct attacks. Of all the 4s you typically might face, by far he's the one that will do the least damage to you on average. On offense, he's an A+, on defense, a C-. He's like a latter day patchneto.0 -

Fighting him in PvP is like fighting obw with a 2* roster. Most of the time, her low health makes her relatively easy to drop quickly. But, when she does get a lucky board that gives her cascades or lots of purple, she can crush you with repeated ap theft.
I don't know if I would call that broken.0 -
I think Wheels will get left alone, but I have some reservations about his supporting cast. Iron Fist, Doom, 3* Widow, Kamala, Cyclops and even Scarlet Witch all have pretty cheap ways to abuse Master Plan, and I can see the nerf hammer coming down on one or more of these guys eventually. But then again, perhaps not, since the only pairing of these characters thats even remotely scary on defense in PvP is Wheels/Fist, and I'm not seeing a lot of that in PvP.
My hope is that Prof X is where they want the power level of 4* characters to be: Useful and powerful with smart play and a good supporting cast, but only so-so on their own or next to characters that can't create match 5's or fire cheap powers with any sort of regularity. I'm in agreement with most of the folks here, Hulkbuster and the New and Improved Sentry 2.0 4* that's coming are going to get hit with the nerf bat before Wheels does. Those characters don't need anyone else in their corner to be OP, they can achieve that all by themselves. That's what got Goddess and Xforce the nerf hammer.0 -
I don't have a working Wheelie right now, so I don't have any vested interest in the matter... but personally, I don't see any reason to hit him with the nerf bat.
As someone else already said, he is a hit or miss character: he will mess up your day or he will be basically a sitting duck (n.b. I just lost a match because Wheelie did his thing in two consecutive turns, so I should be holding a grudge).
Hence, the risk/reward ratio (especially on defense) is completely ok.
And let be honest: if the AI wants you to be its ****, while covering itself in cascades and triggering skill after skill, it will do so, wheelie or not.
The fact that he is not that predominant in pvp (with the exception of specific events where he and/or his best buddies are boosted), as some "unbalanced" chars were in the past, speaks volumes.
the only problem is that the nerf talk can be a self-fulfilling prophecy...0 -
why does everyone think IF is a better/more obvious pairing than GSBW?
I get that the ap cost is much lower at 5 vs 11....but his move is also completely random and not guaranteed to get a 5 match...whereas for a little more than double with gsbw i am guar a 5 match and i almost always get two...
i concede its much easier to get the 5...but everyone is talking like its a no brainer better than gsbw and im not seeing it that way...personal pref i guess0 -

2 reasons:
For 10 purple ap (still less than deceptive tactics) you can double cast ifokl, which will almost always get a solid cascade and often a match 5. Plus it fuels iron fists powers and generates tons of black ap (that can hopefully be used by a good black ability that you brought along). Given the low cost and significant so production, Iron fists power is just better overall. So that some factor.
Second, Iron fist has defensive value, he is a decent scarecrow in D, while gsbw is terrible in the hands of the ai.
Those two factors make if a more attractive partner than gsbw in PvP (though I will concede that gsbw is superior in pve for spamming master plan)0 -
From an in universe perspective, he's just slinging bullets everywhere and hitting everything around him. Same with other AOE's.0
-
Daredevil should be able to hit him. He doesn't need to see his opponents anyway.0

His lack of defense is not as big a problem compared to whether it even makes sense to have him at all. Let's say you have Black Panther featured, Iron Fist on the weekly boost. A logical team to run would be Prof X + Black Panther + Iron Fist even if Prof X isn't boosted. Who else can you possibly have for the third slot? The Hood? Loki? They're still easier to kill than Prof X. Even if Prof X gets knocked out immediately, your firepower comes from BP + IF and if the support can buy some time for them to get their moves going that's still a good thing. If your third guy was say, IMHB, they'd just focus on taking out Iron Fist first to disrupt your combo, so the added durability of the third guy doesn't matter.
Now, you can only run this team when either Black Panther or Iron Fist is featured and preferably the other is boosted, which is why you don't see this team very often. Note that even if you're willing to take a level deficit by running unboosted guys, it is still impossible to run Black Panther + Iron Fist + Prof X on any event that didn't feature one of the first two guys (4*s are almost never featured). So for PvP he's probably okay just because the featured format generally totally handcuffs him to the sidelines unless a black powerhouse or Iron Fist or Scarlet Witch is featured. But even there I think it's pretty stupid to have a character being irrelevent most of the time and utter doom when the right guy is featured. Of course in PvE he never has this problem and you can always tailor a team around his strength, and Master Plan is very abusive when you have all the right pieces which you almost always do in PvE.0 -
PX won't be nerfed.
IF you're careful about not leaving random lined 5-ofs around, there are tons of games where all he will do is spit out 2 bad special tiles.
I will hit any team rocking a PX.0 -
good points both....just hadn't noticed getting whacked when in invis with any other aoe...but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. ..thanks all for the thoughtful replies0
-
i fought a lot in shield simulator and there is no team as good as a profx IF imhb team. just one simple cascade and its a gameover. talk about imba... definitely deserves a nerf0
-
I used to think Fury would be the next nerf target, but i think he and PX will be left alone
They are more or less balanced right, call it ap lenght, health balance or what you wish
Those are characters with great skills that could work or not, the enemy might match a Fury trap or not
And those fights that PX wins on his own? well pretty sure the other 2 are downed so you will need health packs anyway and that delays your progress too
So is not so unbalanced0 -
Nerfs have mostly happened when:
1) A Character combination is created that trivializes game mechanics
2) A Character's usage supercedes all other characters, usually related to #1.
Professor X is in no danger in category 2 right now. Category 1 is more suspect, but the combinations are niche enough that it's unlikely he'd be the target, as of now.
In contrast, just wait until the whales/superwhales have Carnage, then you'll likely see 2 come into play again.0
