What I was thinking was something along the lines of an increasing reward, that went up each time (possibly until some max) until you skipped, at which point it would reset. To me, that becomes a strategic choice if the reward is good enough. If I get a tough match I have to decide is it worth gutting out this fight in order to keep my iso bonus? That's the sort of thing I had in mind.

Now this is a cool change I'd be excited about. And it's basically the same thing as a skip tax, just presented differently.

    This. To provide a example
70 iso for first 3 non skips
140 iso or battles 4-8 won and not skipped
210 iso from that point foward. Perhaps random cover rewards too.
It can work similar to the daily rewards

I hear the rich getting richer aspect.
    So make it 35 70 140.
  • HUGE discrepancy in my bracket.

  • How are people pulling away still. Last rack and ruin i got to 1200 hundred no problem. I started maiking my way up again and i cant get to 1000. Ive gone balls to the wall from 814-970 like 5 times in a row. Hoping to break. Finnaly just shielded. Also i (dis)like how they increase the shield cost then shortly there after change the 100 hp to 50 hp for the 1000 prog reward. If anything can be a mild convence they change it pretty quick. Soon we will be paying iso to move gems. Betcha. I hate how much i am addicted to this game.

    At least i got first.
  • Seems like it worked to me. Those that spent the most got the top prizes and those that normally wouldn't spend were forced into it because they didn't want to lose 2nd-5th place.

This sounds wonderful in theory but it would be a problem of the rich only getting richer. Higher level teams could probably trounce twenty teams in a row without sweating, and then the cherry on top would be that they get more ISOs (I assume you're talking about ISOs since HP as a battle reward seems unlikely) as a reward to level up even further. Not to mention this would probably lead to a massive amount of players just ISO farming by taking on only low value targets because they're quick and they'll reward more ISOs as they continue (low risk, high reward). I definitely like the direction of rewarding the player instead of penalizing, but I think it would create further imbalance.
  • I was stubborn and refused to buy a shield until the rest of the PVP issues are fixed, like not being able to progress unless you shield every 200 points like the guy who placed first in my bracket.

    Now have a 2/2/2 Patch.

This was the least amount of fun I have had in a while playing MPQ. I really do not like the PVP changes.
  • Ahwell, tried in the last hour, but couldn't make it with 2 attacks for everyone 1 of mine. Decided I need sleep over the covers. Nice that you got number 1 though.

I gave in and shielded in our bracket. I had to in order to keep top 5. In the mean time, I'm asssuming Shikamaru shielded his way to 2400 and then let himself get hit, cause no way he was losing top 1 in our bracket.

Here's a pick for good measure. This was taken in the last 2 minutes of the tournament. Also notice I'm somehow both #5 and #6.

Good thing I don't need Punisher covers. In Divine Champions I'll be getting the last OBW cover I need.
  • you guys need to stop sweating the wolverine covers. i mean if you haven't noticed their pattern by now, i'd be amazed.

they introduce a new hero. over the course of the next month, half the events give out the new hero, to the point anybody casually playing can have several covers worth and anybody playing more than that is totally uninterested in the events because they don't need 20+ punisher/hulk/im40 covers.

you're going to be covered (HEHE) in wolverine covers in the next 3 weeks. don't sweat it.

Top 5 isn't the issue for me. I'm more annoyed by them making Progression rewards harder to get while also making them worse.
  • I dunno, it favours a certain type of Zerg rush playstyle. It didn't make it any more or less fun for me, just different.

As for progression rewards, I'd day they're still easier than pre-shield era, just harder than when shields were firsr inroduced (they were ridiculously easy then).

Progression rewards were much harder before the introduction of shields. Shields made them way too easy to obtain the first couple of tournaments.

I understand that. Back then, no one got progression rewards. Shields gave everyone a taste of progression rewards. Now in order to get them, you have to be really, really luck with not getting attacks, or spend a ton of HP. Top person in my division bought at least 8 shields, if not more.

Yeah, progression rewards are still infinitely easier than they were a month ago. We went something like 3 months with the top progression reward gotten MAYBE a handful of times (Polkio is the only one I've heard of, but there may be others.)

Today, there were at least a dozen, probably closer to 30+ people who got the top rewards. That doesn't seem like a bad number at all. There were even people in the 2900+ range for points.

The only thing with this tournament is that the 'annoying' factor was upped with the -50 point losses. That's countered slightly by all of the +50 point gains I got, too. But, I can see it being incredibly frustrating, nonetheless.
  • I would say it was more annoying back then. Climbing 5-10 points each match while pushing for progression and a single attack hits you for 40-50.

I think my biggest issue right now is how pay-to-win it is. Shikamaru shielded his way to the 2400 progression reward and, in the process, got 1st in my bracket. He spent a ton to basically get 2 4* covers. But it gives me the feeling that the only way to win in this game is to spend 1.5-2k HP in shields. Otherwise you're stuck with the same rotation of 3* covers that you'll max relatively quickly.

Probably not quite that much in HP, but yeah, the only way to get those top slots is to pay for them now =\ It's discouraging.

Shikamaru probably spent way more than he needed to. I was able to get to 2400 without using shields. Then threw on an 8 hour shield to go to sleep. Came back this morning and took first. 200 HP spent, 2 4* covers, 3 new 3* covers. Even if I hadn't used a single shield, I'd probably be top 5, regardless (and still got the progression reward.)

Granted, my fortune was won on the backs of people like Shikamaru. But, I'm just saying that you don't NEED shields to get high progression rewards. I did spend 2 straight hours going from 500 to 2400 from 12am-2am, though.

Not a fan of the costly shields either but I got 2600 and first place using two shields (one was only three hours). Could have gotten second with one shield
