As a WAY lower tier player, to get back to the original question posted, it's going to take time, roster slots, decision-making, patience, and LUCK, LUCK, LUCK. If you're not dropping money left and right, my advice is valid. I'm on day 280 (?) and have just invested $20 dollars for six spots during anniversary week. I sit at 37 covers, and am 20HP from slot 38, which is going to go towards my three Doctor Doom covers (more on that later). It's going to take time to get roster slots, play through story mode (highly suggested), and gain characters. When you start off, your options are slim. Participate in the basic Dark Reign story mode and win what covers, ISO, and Hero Points you can. Don't spend your Hero Points on nothing except roster slots, you'll need them! Win a PVP match and settle for the standard recruitment tokens. I've seen people disdain these standards, but in my experience, they've done me wonders when I get that chance Gold coin to pop up. I've gotten GREAT covers when that chance Gold drops in the standard section, which is where time and patience come in. Just think of EVERY token as a pull on a slot machine. Eventually, you're going to hit it rich. I scored two Doctor Doom covers with standard tokens JUST before the Deadpool event where Doom was the headliner. I've had some days where I gained several Gold covers. That's where luck comes in. Decision-making comes in at who you are going to keep and cut. These are some HARD decisions, but unless you're going to cough up money, this is the nature of the beast. There's some frustration involved as well. I recently had it happen where I deleted a purple Daredevil cover, just to end up getting a red Daredevil cover through PVP a few weeks later. Either way, once you get the hang of this, LUCK is going to play a BIG role in your PVP success. For instance, in December (Season IX), I scored at least top 50 in every PVP event I participated in. I got two Deadpool covers, two Falcon covers, a Daredevil cover, two Blade covers, a Gamora cover, two Patch covers, and two Mystique. I top out in PVP at around 300, 400 if I'm lucky. Season X, not doing so hot. Finished 300 for Sticks and Stones, and 121 for Unholy Outlaw. We'll see how the rest of this season goes for me, but either way, I hope I answered the question about improving PVP. Good luck, you'll get there eventually!
  • Now with vaulting one of the questions going forward is, once you're in in the 2* zone wanting to transition to the 3* zone, how many tokens and roster slots should you have before you try to open them all? Do you wait until Thor, Hood, BP, CMags are all unvaulted at the same time?

I'm guessing if you're in 2* range and have the roster space, you should save about 1000 standard tokens and 300 various heroic tokens before opening them to have a chance at covering some 3* enough to be usable.

One of the things I find interesting is that between seasons when they run the "equalizer" events all those people with 166 rosters stay home. Either no one cares about individual events or they don't like it when they can't make the top 100 with their eyes closed.

I took the same team (with 1 166 and it is Iron Man so it shouldn't even count) that couldn't break 100 in the PvP before season ended (despite playing right up to end time I placed like 124) to being in the top 10 in one event and top 25 in the other during the break between seasons.

Bumping up character levels makes it easier for low levels to compete but in no way does it make them equal. If you have 1 or 2 cards in a power against someone with 5 cards in their power who does you WILL notice the difference. So it isn't like all advantage is gone from being higher level. There just didn't seem to be anyone playing (or I got a weird shard twice in a row I guess).
  • I'm in the 2->3* transition and I'd say the game is borderline broken. I start late in PvP and climb to 450 with a 2* roster and still can't crack the top 100. The progression cover is at 1100 points...

The only way to get covers is PvE, and between vaulting/unvaulting and the rate they release new characters I get more defeated by the day.

This is the same problem that the season SHIELD Simulator progression rewards has. The only rewards anyone could ever use are the 3* covers and those are just way beyond what a transitioning team could make in the simulator. In order to get there you almost need 4* characters already so the 3* characters aren't usually all that enticing to put in all the effort to get them. Not sure why D3 likes to put rewards out of the reach of the people who actually need them the most.
  • Well, I've finished in the top 25 twice in a PVP event, and I don't have any high level 3* characters and I'm now at the 109 day mark. The question I suppose you should ask is how the Match Maker works and how can you make it work for you?

There are a number of things this game can do to make PVE and PVP more fun, and it's pretty crazy when a lightning round or Shield Simulator sticks you me against 166-200+ characters vs my 94s but not much I can do about that then hope for a better bracket next time.

They're tired. Between seasons they can take a break and phone it in.

It is the difference from during season to off season. When they ran Balance of Power and Combined Arms during Anniversary week, with Anniversary 10 packs for averaging 1000 points, people were scoring 1500+ in these events. For transitioners like myself, it was miserable.

I enjoy pushing in those events and have definitely placed higher, if the reward is something I need. Otherwise, I am happy for the break and take it easy, which is happening more often as I get more covers maxed out.

Yeah, let us know how well that continues to be, once you get further into your 3* transition and it changes your sharding
  • i prefer games that value skill over time put in. (by skill i mean team comp, knowing when to use what skill whatsoever)
if MPQ isnt that kind of game, than maybe its just not my game

This game definitely employs all of those skills and many more you haven't mention two of which is time management and gratefulness. A game you can play anytime and anywhere with very achievable goals. I once thought that getting lvl 166's and 270's was an impossible feat but my future roster would be proof that I was just being a classic american and begging for instant gratification. As far as I know MPQ is one of the largest mobile games ever with such a dedicated fan base. If this game doesn't grip you and drag you in for a long ride, I suspect no mobile game ever will.
  • I enjoy the challenge and over time have noticed it being easier to get higher rank but I enjoyed the game with 1* just as much as I have with 3*. If it was giving to me I would not continue to play.
