Seems like people have a lot of different ideas about what PR is. Quite literally when you hire a PR firm/person, you are hiring a motivated, partisan liar. Has nothing at all to do with doing right by the customer or even managing expectations, but mainly finding a really good tinykitty artist to spin things your way in the face of any and all contrary facts.

Not sure why we would view that as an improvement from the user side of things. Please, don't hire an actual PR professional; it just legitimizes them.

Everyone wants D3 to be their friend. D3 wants to be your exclusive crack dealer, and a crack dealer with a PR guy is still a dealer.

Agree with OP, get someone with business savi. PLEASE.

Prob a good place to start is a test market. As an Aussie we are always America's test market, they launch stuff here first to see how we react. Have a dedicated server somewhere that is 1 event ahead, all things are equal they just happen a little ahead of time. Have a separate forum thread and test the waters in a controlled environment. Do something like launch free alliances unannounced and if the switchboard lights up you need to rethink it. Then you have saved your main market and it is far easier to retract in this small test market.

As an example Star Wars Galaxy made the decision to remove a crafting mechanic from the game, wiping away hundreds of hours of player time. The backlash was crippling to the game and even after re-implementing it the damage was done and the game closed. Can you imagine Mcdonlads releasing a new burger without doing market research, it wouldn't happen, and that is so minor in that they still sell all their other rubbish. It's like Mcdonalds saying OK we are not making any of the old items we are now only making this new type of burger. Even if the burger was amazing, cheaper, healthier, tasted like Katy Perry's tinykitty people would still react adversely to it. (no one likes filet o fish icon_e_biggrin.gif )
