DISCUSSION - New Characters in Comic Packs

  • I really feel sorry for the poor saps who wanted to build/complete the "retired" 3*s.

Which they have not fully retired, they will be rotating them back in:
    See original post here: http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=17494
Going forward, new characters are going to rotate into the comic packs in sync with Versus seasons. New characters will be added into the packs, and older characters will be given some time out of the packs. As a result, we'll be getting all the new characters into the packs without reducing the rates of any of the 3 and 4 stars, so your character progress won't slow down.

Our first rotation will happen on October 17th with Season 7.

In: Beast, Captain Marvel, Colossus, Deadpool, Doctor Octopus, She-Hulk
Out: Daredevil, Doctor Doom, Human Torch (Classic), Loki, Ragnarok, Wolverine (Patch), Punisher

The first characters that are taken out of packs will start rotating back in during Season 8. We'll always communicate in advance which characters will be rotating out.

This will put the latest characters into the packs sooner and allow us to work on the characters that are out of the spotlight.

    Highlights for emphsis.

Considering what we have heard, I expect Doom, Loki, And Rags are going to return in season 9 with their 3rd covers.
  • Does anyone else find the idea of "working on these characters out of the spotlight" a little silly? I mean, the idea that they have to be metaphorically taken off the road and put into the shop to get worked on is not actually a real thing. Why put that out there as a reason? I'm not trying to stir things up, I'm actually glad they're doing something, but "spin" statements that don't make sense bug me.

Well there is the advantage that with them not in packs people won't be puling them so they won't come to forums and complain when the sell what they thought was a useless Daredevil cover and then the next day Daredevil gets a buff that made that cover good. It's kinda a mediocre at best reason to say that but there is a bit of an advantage to working on characters while no one can get them.

I guess that's fair enough. Still seems like an "Oh yeah, we can say this as a rationale too." rather than a true strategy decision. Maybe I'm just too jaded greentile.png . icon_e_wink.gif

I don't get Human Torch leaving before someone like Spidey, or Grey Suit that've been there much longer. Other than that, at least I know I'll be able to use my tokens more effectively soon.
BTW, I wish they'd taken Rags out of the awards for this Anniversary PVP. Really, Rags? The only way this would've been cool is if for the Anniversary they reverted him back to being useful.

Holy snap...who are you? Ok, past that. Nice that you guys are fixing the character tokens! I like how more characters have been taken out than added in. That will hopefully increase the drop rates a little for the 3 star.png people right?

Since only one less will be added than removed and three of the removed (2 powers characters) were only at .5% rather than .7% it only adds a .1% to draw likelihood, and that .1% is divided over everyone.

I get the feeling HT was removed over IM/GS/Spidey ect because they wanted to balance it somewhat between completely worthless characters and somewhat usefull ones...especially since if they just removed 7 useless characters the next couple go arounds would see all mid/top-tier removals which would be horrible.

Because we see numbers that are rounded to the nearest tenth it shouldn't even be .1% it should be exactly the same going in as coming out.

Glad to hear it. My Patch and Punisher are maxed (And Daredevil, but who cares), and everyone else is terrible or Human Torch (who i only have 3 covers for anyway.) My current token stash has an expected payout of maybe 1 gold token, but hey. Perhaps some day I will field Captain Marvel at a playable level and the game will be better.

I'm not what you'd call a power-player but I do have a 42-slot roster with at least one for every 3*+ (except Beast, now that I think about it). And still I have suffered from a considerable amount of overlap. I've gotten 8 green covers for Punisher and at least 7 for Patch. I've gotten 7 green Thors and no reds. I've gotten 7 Green for GSW and she's only 5/3/2. In fact, now that I think of it, it's always the Greens I'm swimming in (I'm sure I've trashed at least one green Hulk as well!), except for Daredevil's purple (7). Part of this must be from event reward structures, but mostly appears to be bad luck. Come on, RNG, maybe drop a black Hulk once in a while?

I would love it if unusable covers could convert into extra ISO (more than 500, obviously) for that character. Or, you know, a different power, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

Anyway, putting some of these characters out of the running will help prevent that from happening. Still, I fully expect to draw 3 more GSW greens during Season 7, and nothing else.

I echo the sentiment above: Rags? Really? But maybe he'll come back buffed; all they have to do is give him real damage numbers and lower his AP costs by 1 (or give him a third power). Something that destroys red tiles and gains the AP would be appropriate for his playstyle.
  • Will there be any change to the standard packs?

    Yes the same ones.

My preferred solution would be to split up heroic tokens into Heroic A/Heroic B/Heroic C/Heroic D tokens.

This actually doesn't help the situation, unfortunately. Either whether you get A/B/C/D is determined by where you found the token, which has all the problems of too many characters in one pack, or you get to pick whether you get A/B/C/D. In that case the optimal strategy to transition to a 3* team as quickly as possible is to pick the same pack every single time. It's not clear that that's such an important strategic decision, and it's too easy to make decisions that lead to a bad experience in a way that doesn't show you where you went wrong.

We can totally make changes to characters while they're in rotation/"on the road", and will continue to do so when it's called for, but changing a character while they're taking a break from being featured or offered for sale is less disruptive and will hopefully feel fairer. No one will have bought a character or poured a bunch of Iso-8 into them right before their abilities change.

They're on a different schedule for the anniversary celebration. And they're a little something special. Check in on 10/16 (any time after 1:00 AM Eastern).

Thanks for the update! Will they still be a full 48 hours or truncated since they're special? Seems like anniversary stuff will end exactly 48 hours after that time, so I'm holding out hope they'll run til the end...

I am not advocating the rude posts, but to be fair, nothing is ever advertised. Yet most people know the set weekly schedule. Quite a few people have been asking about the LRs.

Just because events usually happen on a consistent schedule does not mean they need to be at that same time in the future. No where does it say the weekly schedule is "set".

Yes things are advertised. When an official announcement says there will be special 4* Thor Goddess lightning rounds, that's advertised. When it says you will be able to play with her on a certain date, that's advertised. That's the schedule they're following.

I know on a typical week, lightning rounds occur on certain days. This is clearly not a typical week. This is essentially the least typical week that MPQ has all year. I think the bigger issue is that people have a hard time adjusting to change.
