Once again, once more, EU players got screwed

  • Lack of rubberbanding is actually nice for sleep. I went to bed in 7th and woke up in 38th. One pass through and back to 21st. While I think the top10 pulled too far away, it looks like top20 is well in reach.

I approve of this ending method.

I'd be fine with every event ending like the current Heroics: Scale back rubberbanding enormously for the final hours.
Still allows determined grinders to leap ahead, but doesn't invalidate all progress made in the days before the final 3 hours.

That's true, I could live with the current format....too bad I don't care about the rewards in this event.
  • Yeah, so this outage wouldn't have happened if there had been staggered end times.

Thanks anyway for two back to back 5am finishes in this Deadpool event anyway Devs...

First off, I've not read the entire thread so I might repeat what others have said.

As a EU player that has suffered with the end times being unfriendly to us I have found a solution that works for me (I think).

I will preface by saying that if you're in a highly competitive alliance this method might not be great.

    - Join the event at an extremely America-unfriendly time. This should mean that other people in your bracket will also go to bed towards the end of the event seeing as there is a 6 hour time gap across the Atlantic ocean.
    - Join extremely late. I joined the Deadpool PvE at about 14:00 central EU time with 15 hours left of the event. By 1am I had about 14K points and I was top 10 in main bracket when I went to bed.

    EDIT: Finished 50th

On a different note I've noticed that PvEs with new heroes are usually followed shortly by PvPs with the hero as a reward that have an end time of 18:00 EU time which I think is the compromise the Devs have settled on. PvE ends at 5am and PvP ends at 18:00 thus giving most time zones a realistic chance of picking up the new character before the next PvE where you need to have said hero for the special nodes.
  • Unfortunately, what you'll also find is the next PvE having the new character featured in all the "required" battles. The whole Deadpool event totally screwed the EU players, especially the Brits who have a 5am finish rather than 6am for CET. It doesn't even appear that the Devs even acknowledge this issue, much less are prepared to address it. Lazy development again I'm afraid - tinker with the small things that make no difference (or developments that could wait) rather than address real issues and real concerns.

with joining extremely late do you mean that you joined in the main only then? in effect skipping the entire first sub? But I have to say, I'm amazed that this worked...I have something over 20k and finished 198th....

Im EU player too. Im furious devs even split ending times for PVP and PVE.
I also need to get up at 05.00 am, play to 06.00 am. I was able to go to bed for 1 hour, then wake up for work. Now, end times for PVP are 07.00 am.
I cant go sleep anymore. icon_cry.gif

And yes, I absolutely dont understand, why devs atlest write us some statement, why are event so EU unfriendly, they are simply ignoring EU playerbase.
Maybe there arent so many players from EU, I dunno. But if devs remain silent, we´ll never know.

(There are 3 PVPs during the week. 2 finish at 07.00 am., 3rd at 07.00 pm. (that one is on wednesday).

He said he was top 10 when he went to bed at 1am, I'm willing to bet that ended up as top 50 or maybe 100 at best.

If you're really not bothered about getting 3 (or 4) covers then there's lots of options open which allow you to get 1 or 2 covers relatively painlessly - but I'm not playing this game just for the love of match-3, I'm playing it because I enjoy competing for the top prizes.

It comes down to this: You cannot get top 50 (often top 100) in a rubberbanded PvE if you live in Europe/UK unless you get up at unreasonable hours to play the game.

It is possible to finish in top 10 (for me atleast, when playing event properly AND waking up at 05.00 am in the end). But you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Why should be 10th (or 50th?), when Im 1st form 2/3 of event time? I could end first, if event finish at 06.00 pm...

I think we Europeans are ignored because we are probably only small (or NO paying properly) community...
  • Personally, I think the Devs fall into the trap that a lot of programmers fall into. They want to do the cool stuff, the fun stuff. Add another new character, yeah that's quick and fun. Add teamplay to that game, yeah that's cool and fun (and possibly ill-advised but that's another conversation). Then they look around and slap each other obn the back over the cool, fun stuff they've all achieved. However, when people spot gameplay issues, how it creates inequality, that's not cool or fun to address. That becomes a pain in the ****. So, if possible, they sweep in under the carpet or make some **** little adjustment. EU? That's a small portion of the community, let's shift PvP by an hour - that will satisfy them.

There are loads of plausible solutions on these discussion threads, but they all seem too much trouble for the devs to look at, and would get in the way of their fun, cool plans. Turn off the rubberbanding for the last 5 hours of an event? Not cool enough, compared to true healing or teamplay.

If it wasn't for the new PvE characters being essential for the next PvE mission, then I probably would only chase the points rewards and never bother with the ranking. As it is, I get sucked in again and again and then spat out as I miss the top 100 threshold.

It's not like they haven't done it before. They ran the same event 2x back to back with different end times. Now that was more player friendly.

I think I'd die if I have to grind like this for another 2 1/2 days, even if the end time was euro-friendly.
They should totally rerun this with the end time shifted to 6PM CET, but please not right away. I need a break.
  • The only fair solution I can think of is to have different brackets each with separate end times. Alliances are the wrench that makes that more difficult to implement but far from impossible. My god what a quality of life improvement would it be to be able to select events to end at 10-11pm and then go to bed immediately after. Maybe I am old but midnight-1am on a weeknight is much much better than what EU players endure and still makes me wish I was already asleep by then.
  • I really don't understand why they couldn't run DP vs Heroes for 24 hours and DP vs Villains for 36 hours. That would have given us one sub ending at the Euro-friendly time and one sub ending at the Euro-unfriendly time, instead of both ending at 6 AM in the morning.

As a US player who has a 5:30 alarm, I like this idea. Instead of running the usual 6.5 day pve to end Thursday night, run a 2.5 to 3 day pve twice. One ends the usual Thursday night, the other ends Monday midday (i.e 3.5 days apart), neither event conflicts with a pvp ending time. Not to mention a shorter pve is always welcome.

That was a nasty one with this event. I could have ignored the first sub ending if I'd known in advance that rubberbanding was in effect for the final 12 hours - but without transparency of the event mechanics I couldn't take the risk of not getting up at 4am two days in a row.

I think the first sub's rubberbanding was stronger than the 2nd sub, right?

In any case, it's the main end time that's important. Subs only give tokens and HP, mains give covers.
  • Well, first I didnt like the ending times at all (here in scandinavia it is 7am) but nowdays Im totally ok with it. At least that is the time when I am always at home and free to play as much as I want. Just have to wake up earlier than usually. Ending times at noon often go pass when Im busy doing something else in real life.

But I too hope that there would be more rotation at ending times, and more timeslots to end those than just two like now and not always the same. Especially with long pve all the subs shouldnt end at same time as they often do now.

Normally it is, but in Oscorp Heroic (Hood rewards) it was the final sub that was most important because there was no rubberbanding in the main for the final 12hrs. I know I ended that sub in 23rd and with optimal grinding every 2.5hrs I was still only able to push up to 19th or thereabouts so I just went to sleep in the end and settled for a top 50 place. Still, that's about as close as EU players have had to a decent 'end' time, even if it wasn't really the end of the event.
