I've been quite surprised by the number of Patchneto teams I'm not seeing so far. Hulk seems to be the popular defensive option but when you've got a couple of massive protect tiles down, Anger isn't really all that scary.

I feel Hulk's main defensive benefit is causing people to go "ugh" when they look at his HP. There's almost always a quicker target out there for the same value. (Even Patch; his regen is easily overcome by strike tiles). Especially pertinent once you get to the shield-hopping phase of the event.
  • Hulk is also one of the few (only?) characters to actually make the LDaken/Sentry crowd pause before crushing you mercilessly. Because if you World Rupture and you don't kill Hulk, you're going to make him very, very angry.

Nah, just need to grab a blue match too. Hell, he's nice because sometimes the board just doesn't want to give you green, so poking him a few times will fill up all the reds with strike tiles quite nicely

Loki and his fat bro are a nasty combination if they get even the slightest bit lucky.

It's nothing like as reliable as OBW or Hood, but Illusions is pretty good at setting up the Thor pain-train too if there's plenty of red/yellow on the board. I just got completely mashed - I think I did about 2K to Thor - and it was purely off the back of a couple of lucky cascades set up by Loki.

Loki likes it when you lie, really.

I'm not sure where this should go since it happened in this event, but it pertains to the eternal question of mmr management...

When I started the event I fed a bunch of iso to loki so he would have more padding like his bro, then realised that the buff made him tank for widow in black and purple, killing her espionage. Fine, she's still good and will last more matches, right?

Since the global level shift, I've been meeting a balanced mix of maxed 2*teams, mixed 2/3* teams and underlevelled 3* teams. That's exactly the sort of teams I run myself, fair enough.

For one match, I was wary of cstorm's windstorm, so I stuffed fat loki in the corner and took loan-ki to the prom instead. So, I won with no fuss, but the next three teams queued on my dance card were all with loan-ki/underlevelled 2*s and even a loan-ki/underlevelled 2*/low-level 3* set. I feel like maybe the matchmaking was tricked into thinking my team is weaker than it actually is.

Freaky, but could be worth trying if you've been stuck with high level opponents for a while. BIG plus is that no one needed to die.

(To balance making my middling roster into the big fish in a small pond, all the fish are worth rather few points, oops. The loki token gave me a sentry though, wow. On the other hand again, loki has all my iso and i can't level sentry, haha.)

Going back to my fat loki now to watch my opponent levels creep up again.

Done with this wonderful, awesome, in no way boring as all hell tourney.
I've been using Sentry/UDaken for 3 tourneys now and I'm already bored to death by that combo.

I had a surprising amount of difficulty with CMags teams - World rupture without sacrifice gets shut down completely by his protect tiles.
Also nasty: enemy Loki gets a trickery off and converts your sacrifice tile into a protect tile.
I even wiped in one of those fights, -6 instead of +45 at 900something.

Again my thanks go out to the X-Men who make a two-fight hop worth 88 points icon_lol.gif

Shielded through to the end, hit me if you got me.

I only find Laken+Sentry to be viable on shield-hops (also - using this matchup I find that I am much more likely to wipe >.<)
How do you play them consistently? Do you avoid using Sacrifice? Still does not provide the same longevity I find when using Laken+LT...

Poke the Hulk? Oh, I love that game! The ones with less than 5 black are especially cute. They're like big green pinatas. You hit them and green candy comes out. Mmmm....candy...

Yeah, if there aren't fat HP cushions like LT/sentry/hulk, you don't really need to sacrifice, Daken strikes are good enough to get regular health people down, if you spread the match damage around a bit

Went up to ~1020 with maybe 2 attacks on me... well this is strange... anyway considering that number 2 is at 660 I put a 24 hour shield and think that I am done with this event... Might play for 5-6 minutes before end
  • Shielded for the duration at 803. The end time is, as usual, terrible for me, and I only need the yellow (though I may add a fourth purple for the heck of it until I can respec), and this means I'm done with it. Plus, there are lightning rounds on, and they're more fun anyway.
  • Event token was a Bagman. I blame this topic for influencing the event by quantifying it.

Also I enjoy Loki, Bags and Bullseye being the featured characters on the token redemption screen. Really screams: "Yeah, this token's gonna suck."

Event token netted me a green Sentry, so along with the pve mine now stands at 2/5/2 so kind of awesome.
  • Guy in my bracket used at least 3 shields that I noticed to hit 1k and his roster isnt awful...seems totally not worth it. Ill probably pass him for the hell of it tomorrow morning. My normal stopping point is 1k with a single shield unless the 1100 cover is needed.

Exactly what I thought and my bagman token didn't disappoint icon_lol.gif

Yeah, I don't use sacrifice and try to avoid using World Rupture, too.
Mostly getting bye with match damage + chemical reaction.

And no wonder I'm not killing things fast enough with my world rupture, I'm missing the additional CD tiles from the 5th green, lol.
  • small shield, needed it make sure i have health packs for pve (just in case). i'll probably do one hop and 8h shield, cause i'm literally only doing this pvp to keep my #1 in s3.
  • Think I might break into the top 10 for the first time. Currently 12th in my bracket on 635 and 3-10 are 640 - 750 at the moment with them all shielded. Only problem I've got though is that the only matches I'm being offered are all against 166's and I've got nothing I can use to beat them at the moment!!!

Well I give up...you guys win. I used to get to 1000 to 1100 every pvp, not anymore without tons of shields. I get to 900 all 166 teams which is fine except I only have a single 166 (punisher, whose not scary on defense). I'll tackle the 166 teams but it takes awhile. So I beat the 166 team only to come out with -82 because of my creampuff defensive team. Either feast or famine. All fairly easy 2* 94 teams up to 850 then only 166 teams rest of the way? There are no "in between" teams?

    /endrant

BTW, whose up at 4:40am PST?? Thought I would be the only nut and it would be quiet.
