Need advice: Shang-Chi or BRB?

Black bolt is quite fun too for the charge tile game, even better if the numbers fall in your favour and he starts charging purple or red. Once the combos are high enough though all matches do crazy damage. Hit 260k with a crit, match 5 with 4 charged tiles. And thats unboosted at 12 coversentrailbucket said:

I sorely wanted there to be a "props" button so that I could let the other player know that I really enjoyed seeing that team.
There's even more synergy though. Cyclops yellow is good boardshake to keep your combo going, but it *also* gives Shang-Chi a stacking 75% match damage boost every time you cast it.
Loki works because his black power is also cheap boardshake, but he charges 4 tiles if he's invisible. Shang-Chi loves charged tiles -- 3x match damage.
So basically, instead of only chasing red and purple, you store up enough to cast a few of red, purple, green, yellow, or black, then go to town. In the process you'll get a bunch more of those colors and you can keep going forever.0 -

The thing is, Sighclops was ruthlessly maligned on release and for quite a while after. As it turns out, he is one of the tier's great sleepers. He brings amazing skills to the table at attainable prices -- put him with a boosted Colossus and watch tf out... I'd like to know how many people actually went to the effort of champing him as I seem to recall much discussion of waiting for him to CYCLe out before anyone would spend their LL tokens.entrailbucket said:

Sighclops and Carbage are both two of the funniest and least apt nicknames in the game.
P.S. Fixed your quote, @thero@ThaRoadWarrior -- hope you don't mind.
P.P.S. This is one of the most useful threads I've ever come across. Thanks, @Akoni, for starting it. I hope you don't mind its being given a full, metastasizing tangent-treatment. There's a TON of good info here!1 -

Be wary of me today! I feel quite a bit entitled because I won a forum contest reward.
By the way I have 11 cyclops covers because I actually pulled when he was there but RNG gave me more of others. I just wanted his yellow at 5.3 -
Mine is exactly 450, which is really all you need. He doesn’t exactly play up well. Only the pitiful damage on Red and the damage on black (which if you ever have access to, something went wrong!) go up with additional levels after 450.Yepyep said:ThaRoadWarrior said:Sighclops green to add 9 7 red as well

There's a TON of good info here!Otherwise, the number of repeaters, tiles destroyed/AP gained, ally match damage % increase, tile swaps, tile conversion, and stun duration are the exact same at 450 as they are at 550 (and those are the reasons to play him, not for red/black damage). So while I definitely didn’t skip him, he’s not one I’d suggest putting a ton of levels on either.1 -
Congratulations on the win!Bad said:

There's a TON of good info here!I love both Carbage and Sighclops as characters and as hilarious nicknames. Definitely the Greenland and Iceland of the 5* tier. My Sighclops dropped out at 10 covers, and I direct sharded him to completion over the next few months. I use him on a number of teams that like board shake or high match damage. I think he will get a re-evaluation at some point. Also - his black alt-state will be triggered if his bros get stunned and then stay that way, just fyi. They don’t need to be downed actually.2 -
I think this gets at a different issue that actually ties it back to the original question.Yepyep said:ThaRoadWarrior said:Sighclops green to add 9 7 red as well

I'm going to overgeneralize, but there are basically two kinds of MPQ players. One player plays to win stuff. The other player doesn't generally care about winning. (Let's just call them competitive and non-competitive players).
The competitive player only targets the best characters and only uses the best characters, because their goal is to win. If you're a race car driver, you may own many cars, but if you're trying to win the race you drive your best car.
For the non-competitive player the game looks different. They're not trying to win, so they can choose teams based on other criteria. They're out on the race track driving a minivan, or a scooter, or a steam-powered motorized unicycle, and having a blast doing it.
(There's a third, very small group of players who want to win the race while driving a steam-powered motorized unicycle...that's me! We're endlessly frustrated but somehow still hopeful. 5* boosts helped a lot.)
So when someone says Cyclops or Shang-Chi is bad because they're not as good as the top tier characters, they're right! If you're trying to win stuff, you run the best team 100% of the time, and these guys objectively aren't the best.
When someone else says Cyclops or Shang-Chi is great because they're powerful or synergistic or fun to play, they're also right! It doesn't matter to them that you can't win a CL10 PvE bracket with those guys, because that's not their goal.
The two groups of players don't really understand each other, don't know how to talk to each other, and also get pretty judgy about each other, so these discussions never go too well. Both attitudes are valid, they're just different.7 -
You too? I took 3rd because I misjudged Deadpool and Jessica Jones. First win for me on a forum contest.Bad said:

The RNG got me on C5 as well. I was hoping for 5 covers on yellow, but got 8 covers on green instead. I think my last cover was his one and only red.

I tried SC with Loki and Cyclops, but I don't like it as much. I tried it with 3witch and 2* Magneto and that one worked better. I also tried SC/Cyclop5/Hulkbuster. That may be my second favorite SC team. I have not tried him with Odin and Heimdall since my Odin is at 0/0/1.1 -
After all of the advice given, I think I'm going to favorite Throg and BRB. It'll give me the best bang for my buck... shard(?). If the RNG is nice to me, I'll pull a few SC covers to get him looking somewhat decent. Thanks for the input everyone.4
-
If BRB is your target you can spend all the LL. If you hoard 7500 cp you can cover anyone that comes up in a store anyways. BRB should show up at least once in the next year. That would be more reliable than shards from low coverage unless you still have all your 4* milestones to get.Akoni said:After all of the advice given, I think I'm going to favorite Throg and BRB. 7500 cp sounds unfathomable. I don't think I've ever saved more than 2000 cp at once. Good to know, though. Thanks.Sekilicious said:

Ah yes, I should have been more clear. Most of the conversation has centered around who is the best character to go after now, but a key consideration should be the longevity of that character's use. If the OP is interested in Placement, then they should consider not only which of the two characters is better now, but which one will continue to get use as the rest of their roster gets filled out. So while Shang is likely to be part of a faster team than BRB, neither are meta fast and so both will eventually be replaced. That can be factored into the decision making.Captain_Trips88 said:
Again, this thread is the OP wanting to decide between BRB and SC. How are those teams relevant to the discussion?helix72 said:I’m not surprised he’s faster than BRB + Kitty + Polaris, frankly that’s a slower team. But I doubt he’s faster than Okoye + iHulk + 3* Thanos or 1/2 Thor + Okoye + Polaris. I say doubt because I haven’t tested it so it’s just a hypothesis.
One caveat: I routinely place t10 in SCL10 and I use BRB on almost every CN grind. My Shang-Chi isn't champed yet but I doubt he's going to replace my BRB team or any other team I use, for that matter. I suppose I'll use him for fun in Sim once in a while, and, of course, when boosted.2 -
unboosted Shang chi is a beast - give him the right partners and go winfinite on turn 3. most of the time...2

Well, 7500 cp is about 6 months of hoarding, probably less if you have a lot of 4*s champed and not waiting on iso like on my roster. 45,000 cp is 1800 pulls, which is what the meta gamers over on Reddit recommend for 550 characters. That can be accomplished in only 36 agonizing months, though also probably much less if you are hoarding LLs as well. That is why I will probably end up champing as characters are released and switching to classics when my 4* farm can handle the cp needs. I should get a few meta characters covered eventually using that method, but will likely never be at end game.Akoni said:

I agree that Shang Chi is a beast, and I plan to use him more going forward. I'm currently using him with SC (purple) to generate Red, and then Thor to collect the red each turn. It's pretty easy after that. He's been great on some challenge nodes.
My go to PvP team (Apoc/Thor) almost got wrecked by an unchampioned SC when they got a decent cascade. I was lucky to pull it out. Don't underestimate him, even on defense.0 -
Keep track of your cps and LTs income every week or every month and you will be able to predict whether you have extra CPs for other non-LT pulls. On top of that, you will know how long it will take for you to hit 7500cps.
My LTs and CPs income fluctuate between 1.3-1.9 and 34-43 respectively. If I'm looking at pure CP income, it will take me between 174 to 220 days to hit 7500cps. However, I have already champed all but 1 4* and most of my 4* are least level 300. So, the figures should be lower if you don't have a lot of 4* champed.
Those T5 SCL10 players can accomplish that in 1.5 years or 18 months. 1800 pulls is after taking into champed rewards, which will give you approximately 20% cashback. Working backwards, it's about 2400 pulls for 550. For me, it will take me approximately 800 days or 27 months to achieve 550 roster. I'll probably be bored to death before I hit 2400 pulls.

I still have several 4* waiting to be champed due to lack of iso. Could I have bought some during the iso sale? Of course, but I refuse to buy iso. As a resource, iso goes so fast when champing that I don't think it's worth spending on. For now, I'll stick with the slow method of grinding and waiting for turnovers on my farm in order to get enough iso to champ. The good thing is I always see a significant jump in cp and LLs when I champ a couple. With that said, I accumulate a decent amount of cp and LL tokens considering I'm only slightly competitive.0
-
Though you probably saw the original, the Reddit sub that pulled 2400 times took about 10 hours to do so. Luckily the three LLs anyone might be targeting would be in there for a couple of weeks so can be done a few at a time. The 50 pulls at a time for tokens would help a lot. I don't think it works for cp,HoundofShadow said:I'll probably be bored to death before I hit 2400 pulls.0 -
Play Lightning Rounds and hit those seed teams. This is the fastest (f2p) way to earn more iso-8. Just bring Thanos and R4G or someone who can one hit the lowest health character.1
-
Shang chi no doubt.
Especially if you play pve but he's good for pvp too (not for floating though)
I have both champed and I probably use shang chi more than any 5* atm.
And chavez/sc is much quicker and more powerful than brb/polaris.
Could brb /polaris unboosted take out a team of boosted champed 5s in pvp in a minute?
Chavez/sc can...0
